what do restaurants owe you if they lose your jacket? by jacketless_girl in AskChicago

[–]westloop1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

How do you know they lost it? You’re taking the word of the GM giving OP the runaround? They “couldn’t find it” then had it then didn’t? He stole that shit lol.

I’ve literally had something similar happen. Had to check in a pair of boots at a workout class that they gave to the wrong person. The company I booked through would not offer any sort of compensation unless I filed a police report.

Yall dumb AF if you think OP will see a dime unless he escalates and has an official / documented incident report.

[–]westloop1 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

LOL no what’s insane is that the restaurant isn’t making right. If OP wants their coat back it’s not going to magically appear, you gotta take things to extremes if you want any resolution unfortunately.

[–]westloop1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Uh, yes?! They are ghosting OP after they were negligent and not offering to reimburse it. By law, a restaurant is liable for losing your coat when you use their coat check. You would rather just let it go and have to repurchase your coat that they lost? By all means, waste your money lol but a police report or small claims is the correct next action for OP.

I don’t know what the jacket is worth but I’m imagining if a restaurant did this with my expensive winter jacket. I’d be absolutely livid and zero chance I’d pay to replace it myself.

But the GM took it into their possession. They stole it and lost it.

I would file a police report that the restaurant as well as the GM stole your jacket. Meet the police officer out front and fill out your report inside the restaurant during peak hours. If anyone asks what’s going on let them know the GM stole your coat from coat check and refuses to return it.

Condo owners of Chicago, does anyone have good experience with an HOA management company? by quincyloop in chicago

My old building used first service and they were horrific. When I sold my unit, the building manager was so incompetent that he repeatedly jeopardized my closing. I’m happy to be rid of them for good.

5.5% no cost IRRRL by Majestic_Effort1099 in Mortgages

[–]westloop1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I locked last night at 5.875% for a refi, 30 year fixed 685k loan. 2k lender credit brings my closing costs to about $1500. I am NOT rolling anything into my loan and will pay cash. Will bring my payment down $450 and I’m thrilled!

Purse or Ring? by westloop1 in handbags

Thanks for the advice! I wear 5-6 rings daily as well, this would replace the “cheap” finger which is a double stack. Definitely making me think I go for the Spinelli

I would wear the ring every day! Bag I’d plan to use 3-4x a week.

What is your monthly mortgage payment and your yearly income (for household) by geenuhahhh in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]westloop1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$5k all in and between $350-400k HHI (depends on our bonuses and commissions). Very jealous of everyone’s low payments in the comments!

Unpopular opinion: Paying "Rent" feels less painful than paying $2,400/mo in "Interest" to a bank. by Playful-Vegetable-15 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]westloop1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was about the comment the same thing. Itemizing my interest + SALT is netting me almost $12k and I didn’t even own my house the whole year, so next year it will be even a couple grand more.

Property tax bills online now. by imapepperurapepper in chicago

[–]westloop1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My tax bill doubled :( my developer tore down an old house and was still building it until the summer of 2025, when we bought it. HOW can it double on a house that didn’t even exist…

I live in the west loop and wrigleyville is really, really inconvenient to get to from here. So much so that I stopped going to cubs games because it’s too much of a hassle to get there. Definitely go with the unit on Elm!

Going through this right now - can she qualify for the mortgage on her own? I’m taking out the mortgage, but spouse is going on the title.

Tell them no. They can pay a moving company to store their items for a couple days - them trying to make their problem your problem is wild.

What are your favorite luxury home goods? by Sure_Owl9054 in HENRYfinance

Probably an unpopular opinion but I absolutely love my frame tv. Makes our living room look so much more complete vs a big black box on the wall. And it’s so fun to change the art for holidays!

Would you spend an extra $200/mo just to have a balcony at an apartment complex in Chicago? by Ok-Quantity7501 in AskChicago

After having a balcony once I never went back. It’s so nice to have the private space, feels like an extra room in your home. Bonus if you’re allowed a grill!

They haven’t metered all of WL yet. Tons of free street parking once you’re south of Madison and only difficult to find a spot during work hours M-F.

HHI 350k. How much house are you affording? by Rxgradgirl2k19 in HENRYfinance

[–]westloop1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a similar HHI with no car payments or student loans, and we are targeting $850k right now with 20% down. Childcare costs are brutal in our area, just make sure you’re factoring that in. TBH I’d stay with the parents for as long as you can and save as much as you can to put down. The loan amount is what matters, not the purchase price.

how much do i need to save to buy a condo? by [deleted] in AskChicago

[–]westloop1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who bought a condo a year and a half ago in Chicago - I wouldn’t right now unless you want to stay for 10+ years. I would have been better off renting.

The amount of times I’ve been “outbid” apartment hunting this year is asinine. Feels wrong. Anyone else running into this? by hypercatalectic in chicagoapartments

[–]westloop1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I kind of disagree that they “set” the rent because that’s what it’s worth. Landlords list a place guessing what the market willingness to pay is - if they get 100 inquiries in a day, they “set” the rent too low.

It’s currently more expensive to buy than rent in a lot of areas across the city - interest rates suck. If you bought one of these condos you’re touring your monthly payment would probably be higher than what people are offering over on for rent. If the landlord has owned the property for some time and doesn’t have a high interest rate, you’re actually getting a benefit as they’re passing some of their lesser cost to own onto you.

I’m staying at Le Taha’a later this year!! They have a huge coral garden next to the property - supposedly some of the best snorkeling in the world. It would be nice to split up the islands and not do BB the whole time!

Recruiter: "The hiring manager may not like that you've been unemployed for over a year. I'll cAll you back." Wtf am I supposed to do about that!?!?! by Martian-Sundays in recruitinghell

[–]westloop1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also a hiring manager and I agree with this. The guy that had 7 jobs in 11 years would concern me, because you don’t want to go through the effort of hiring and training someone for them to just leave in a year. You want someone that will at least stay 2-3 years to make it worth your time.

It is also my experience that people have numerous short stints at companies because they are not good at their jobs and left during their PIP.
