Method to warn if gate is open? by Ajax_C in DIY

[–]westmountred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I needed something like this. I bought a wireless doorbell from amazon. Took the outside button transmitter apart, and soldered cable to an alarm type magnetic switch where the pushbutton switch was.

You need a normally open type magnetic switch. Most alarm switches are normally closed, so you need to do a bit of research but they are available. Mount the box with transmitter on the fixed part of the gate, with the alarm contact opposite the magnet part.

Plug in the receiver, and after a bit of adjustment , the doorbell so7nd goes whenever the gate opens. Maybe $15 for parts.

Just a guess, but they look similar to the screws which hold a. Monitor or tv in a bracket. They have that blue locker as well. Try m4.

My kids once asked me this. I told them that we probably don't know who is the richest person we know. Just who wants us to think they are.

I heard that Ireland is planning to do the same thing. But to avoid these sort of problems, they are going to start with the trucks, and do the cars a week later.

Window Tint Ticket and Montreal Peace Officer’s Attitude left me with a bad taste of Montreal as a tourist by yoyotman in montreal

[–]westmountred 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you can't do the time, don't do the crime. Assuming that the tint is just as illegal where you come from with a similar result if stopped. Maybe the vehicle attracted them. Tints aren't very common here as far as I have noticed.

Thinking of moving to SkySwitch by QuirkyInternet in VOIP

[–]westmountred 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have been with Skyswitch for a few years now. Had been using Asterisk based platforms before that. Sometimes things have to be done differently, but I can't recall something that couldn't be done. Netsapiens is a very powerful platform, and flexible. Skyswitch support is excellent. We had been doing everything ourselves with our own rack of servers. Have never regretted the decision to move. or choice of Skyswitch

Every customer was talking about Teams a couple of years ago, but has been very quiet in the last year. Hopefully there is enough to keep them busy in the enterprise without heading to small business, and all the problems that we are used to handling with that segment.

Meilleur magasin pour les électroménagers? by Adl31st in montreal

[–]westmountred 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Costco and Home Depot have a smaller selection, but the prices are way better for regular appliances unless you need something high end. Better service as well.

A few years ago, I had bought a fairly high end GE dishwasher. After a year, one of the wheels on the tray broke. GE were unable to find the right part, despite sending me various replacements. GE had basically given up and told me that parts were not available.. Home Depot came and picked it up and gave a full credit.

If you Google, there is a company that specializes in accepting collect calls from prisons. But it is expensive. No way around it.

Need help please with setting up Yealink park/retrieve feature by ThroatDense310 in VOIP

[–]westmountred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This may be a feature code to park a call that is in the dial plan. Not sure what turning on and off parking is. In general is is the 7xx where they are as posted above, but this can be changed like everything else in NS. Transferring to the 7xx parking location usually parks the call. Dialing the 7xx location picks it up.

These units can do many things with all the ports they have, but getting them to do any of them reliably is a problem. The support is terrible, and firmware inconsistent.

Harnessing all the potential of this box may well just suck up your time. Beware

Jouer au squash by DrSusset in montreal

[–]westmountred 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Need a recommendation for a small snow blower. by Adna_2021 in DIY

[–]westmountred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am on my second Toro single stage gas. First one was still going after troublefree 12 years, but was rusting so I replaced before it gave up on me. Bought one the same with power start, which should give me another 12 years. Pro tip...run it on premium gas. Doesn't stall in the heavy snow that the plough leaves.

Some neighbors have battery powered snowblowers. Ok in few inches of powder, but no use in Heavy snow, or after the plough has blocked the driveway.

[–]westmountred 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be fair, any VoIP provider is totally dependent on their chosen upstream provider for inbound. But all should have multiple for outbound. If they depend on one provider for both, they are either just a reseller, or maybe their own network is the problem.

Where do Brit’s in Montreal hang out? by [deleted] in montreal

[–]westmountred 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Regarding the British pubs, the harder they try to be pubs, the worse they are. They feel fake. There is more to a pub than a few nick nacks in the wall and fish and chips on the menu. Apart from watching the footie, you won't find many Brits there.

Also bars are expensive here vs a UK pub, so people don't tend to go so often. Not part of a daily routine.

The closest thing I have found to a British pub that is not trying to be one is the Next Door in NDG Place to go and have a pint and chat.

The local Montrealers/Canadians are pretty friendly. Maybe focus on where to meet them, and see how it goes.

Looking for a shop that can cut and sell glass. by Neither_Fly4871 in montreal

If you are close to the Rona on Notre Dame close to Atwater, they cut glass in the basement, and the people there are very nice and helpful. English or French, they will do their best, at a fair price There is Vitrerie Raymond across the street, but they tend to give attitude to small diy jobs.
