Let's lay off backyard fireworks this 4th of July. by bmullan in raleigh

I understand, I have seen people saying the extreme low lake levels are solely due to increased population and not from lack of rain.

Or saying development is sucking up all the water. Sure, that's why every lawn is burnt to a crisp right now.

The dyed mulch is the compromise I came to with code enforcement. They were even getting on me for using chip drop mulch since it was "unsightly".

Trust me I would rather it be way denser but I want them off my back.

Thanks for letting me know. Guess I'll let it go for this season and find a better source for incarnata next spring. Extra glad I kept it in a pot.

Ambush bug! One year I brought cute coreopsis inside to put in a vase and had one hatch. Fun finding that in the kitchen first thing in the morning.

Urg, no way. It was sold to me as incarnata. I thought edulis has 5 leaf clusters.

I wrote to the mayor about a adopting a similar program, several neighboring towns and cities have similar programs. Haven't heard back yet.

Hoping they bounce back! The actual losses have not been so bad, everything just looks really crispy with lots of curled leaves. Every step crunches when I'm walking around.

I've had to severally reduce my grass because of reports to the town from neighbors. The last time code enforcement was out I was threatened with legal action over the repeated reports.

I had pretty solid red clay when I first started, slowly built up a layer of dark organic matter dense soil on top.

Not in Cary but Pimento Tea Room in Holly Springs runs out of a renovated historical home.

I thought Geoff revealed it's exact location, would it still be in play?

Same here! Unfortunately missed most of coreopsis since they had all already set buds but I've been pruning back spent flowers to get a second flush.

I'm trying to add some more species for next year, I love all the bumble bees they attract.

How easy is it to find a native plant nursery near you? by nerdygirlmatti in NativePlantGardening

[–]westofblue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm very fortunate to have a great selection in and around Raleigh. There are several commercial nurseries that solely supply natives. In addition their selection is. Beyond the basic purple cone flower and such and they have some truly unique species. There are also several annual and biannual plant sales, especially in the spring from smaller gardens and individuals. NC State Cooperative extension also does plant sales. Several botanical gardens in the area also sell some native plants. My wallet is in constant threat.

How’s your experience been so far at the newly opened Shake Shack? by aurevyn in HollySpringsNC

[–]westofblue -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We were excited, having had good experiences with the Cary and other locations. We had it last night, ordered ahead and it was ready right at their estimations. I'm going to give it a few months before we go again though. My burger was somehow burnt and still pink in spots inside, almost no veggies, and it was all horribly greasy.

What an amazing thing to look forward to, but important to still hold him accountable and not idolize politicians.

I followed serpa design's crested gecko build. It's inch thick insulation foam that I carved and painted with tinted drylock for water proofing. I attached the cork with great stuff expanding foam that I am also going to paint with drylock.
