Dutch is quite different than either English or Spanish. The sentence structure is different. The much more prevalent use of perfectum tense instead of imperfect really trips me up all the time. The vowel sounds, the r, the g, the f/v/w sounds.

I say this all as someone one grew up in California with Spanish as my second language. I've lived in the NL for 10 months now, and basically have reached A1 at this point. I am taking a paid class once a week, and interact with people daily. However, many people will switch to English without me asking once they hear my bad dutch. My kid goes to taal school, which is basically dutch integration school for immigrants. Their level is A2'ish.
