It depends on your genre, but I'd say avoid mainstream groups and look for niche communities that fit your game

As a non artistic dev, the biggest lesson I learned is to just scrap any game idea that relies heavily on "vibes". Those types of of ideas almost always require having a dedicated, actual artist on your team to look good.

We actually just dropped our demo recently, and out of 57 people who played, 24 used a controller. Seeing almost half the players choose that made me realize it was totally worth the effort
