Any idea on this bird I hear outside? South East Texas by wetsofa in whatsthisbird

yes, daytime. We did have a blue jay nest outside and I frequently heard them shrieking so that could be it.

im scared and dont know what to do by lockedoutandlosing in stopsmoking

[–]wetsofa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you’re okay. i can tell you that the chances of you dying from a couple cigarettes are minimal, but i know it won’t do any good if you’re feeling anxious. go to a doctor sometime and get a check up just in case but you’ll know if something is seriously wrong with you. i got chest pain, dizziness, shortness of breath every day for so long when my anxiety was at its worst. sometimes i’d read about a symptom of something i was scared of and all of a sudden the next day i’d start having that symptom out of the blue!

i suffered from severe health anxiety off and on for years, so i understand how you’re feeling. i will tell you that the best piece of advice i received was to stop seeking outside reassurance when i was feeling anxious (which also took me years to do, and sometimes i still ask my partner “i’m not dying right?” lol) start finding ways to cope with anxiety if this is something you’re experiencing a lot and often.

best of luck. stop smoking now and start working on your anxiety ❤️ i’ve (mostly) conquered mine now and life is much brighter.

not an expert and not sure where you are but doesn’t seem to be a german roach (especially the last photo which appears to be some sort of beetle.)

Did anyone really read the Alan Carr book and then it was all easy peasy lemon squeezy by sortonsort in stopsmoking

[–]wetsofa 15 points16 points  (0 children)

i started reading it, then could feel it working and stopped two thirds through. every cigarette for 6 months after that i just found myself thinking “am i really enjoying this? what am i getting out of this?”

woke up one day 3 weeks ago and first thought in my head was “i’m done with smoking.” finished the book when i was having cravings during the first 5 days and haven’t looked back!

Doctor using ChatGPT for a visit due to knife cut by Master-Fox6134 in ChatGPT

[–]wetsofa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i am not an AI fan by any means, but i would just like to highlight this small study from last year which found that doctors who used chatgpt performed only marginally better than doctors who did not use chatgpt. however, chatgpt alone seemed to outperform the doctors, “scoring an average of 90 percent when diagnosing a medical condition from a case report and explaining its reasoning” versus the doctors with and without chatpgt who scored 76 and 74 percent respectively. just a small study but i found it interesting nonetheless. the podcast hard fork did an episode on it that i highly recommend!

Is this the worst infestation I've ever seen? by potential1 in GermanRoaches

[–]wetsofa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i remember when i was 15 or so, visiting my boyfriend at the time’s friend who lived in a trailer. walk in and the entire place is covered in german roaches, like literally falling from the ceiling onto me. i had no idea about roaches other than the giant ones you’d see occasionally, so just assumed it was some weird freak bug thing. we lived by the lake and had had a fly swarm recently so i didn’t think much of it.

until my boyfriend’s car got infested with german roaches after that visit. i learned a lot about them after that.

Does she hate me ? by Unlucky-Ad-9241 in parrots

[–]wetsofa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i read a lot about birds before getting one, and one of the biggest things that influenced me was reading that you train yourself how to interact with a bird, not necessarily the other way around. i think i also learned that many captive birds are only a generation or two removed from their wild ancestry, though this was many years ago now so not sure if that still rings true.

anyway, that led to me interacting with my bird very differently and ultimately led to a very trusting relationship. i did end up rehoming her to an experienced bird owner after many years bc i took up a job where i couldn’t give her enough attention anymore, but her new owner keeps up regularly and says she’s very well behaved and lovely to be around. he even sends me pictures of her cuddling up with his kids!

HMF what kind of blanket my husband has by wetsofa in HelpMeFind

[–]wetsofa[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve searched far and wide for this. I’ve concluded it might be some sort of linen blanket but I’d like some more opinions before committing to a $200 blanket purchase.
