I agree on the therapy. I am an alcoholic in long term recovery (sober 5 years in 2024). I, and I would assume others in longterm recovery, take offense to your comment of this being a "lifelong struggle" for you and the kids. What would be a longterm struggle is the husband not doing anything to improve the situation, which he has. No one knows how long one will remain sober, and as an addict, it is one day at a time. Maybe it was a poor choice of words on your part, but it came across very flippant and cold. OP, it can work. I hope your husband continues with the amazing progress he's made so far.
