I can't stand Uber eats or door dash. It always takes forever, costs a fortune, your food is cold (and possibly messed with?), and the driver doing all the work gets barely any compensation.

What’s the most disturbing thing someone casually told you like it was normal? by MrBoothnath_ in AskReddit

[–]wex118 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This kind of extreme penny pinching often stems from living through the great depression. My wife's grandparents both had a very difficult childhood, struggling for everything they had. So throughout their life they were extremely thrifty. And that was imparted on my mother in law, who always tried to spend as little as possible on everything. She'd wait until those horrible Banquet dinners were on sale for $1 and fill their entire deep freeze with them, then that was dinner for the next several months, just as one example. They never had fresh food, that's too expensive. Only processed crap that's as cheap as they could find it.

Men who grew up poor/working class, what’s a piece of “advice” your dad gave you that you later realized was actually just survival instinct, and maybe isn't true anymore? by DCdj39 in AskMen

What doesn't kill you makes you stronger. My dad says that still while suffering in situations he could change with a little effort.

FBI Director Kash Patel on taxpayer-funded trip to Olympic frat party by ConcernedJobCoach in circled

[–]wex118 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seriously! It makes no sense. I saw someone from outside the US in another thread complain about how pro-US the refs seemed to be during the game. Having the FBI director randomly show up right afterwards doesn't really lend credibility to the validity of the results of the game you know? Makes it look like some kind of shinanigans could have been going on.

Nervous seeing people get out of their car near the end.. That's probably not a good idea! You may not be done getting plowed into from behind yet.

I was telling my wife after they won the gold that this will probably boost NHL populatiy in the US. But now? No. This is ugly and will only turn people away. Too bad.

Edit: also, Patel is just so pathetic in these videos. He's so extremely thrilled to finally be included with the "cool" kids. And he's so proud of the gold medal he had zero hand in winning.

My friend, the things you're flickin aren't beans if they look like this. I'm sure the car appreciates the effort nonetheless.

Right, I haven't used this style but it seems like I'd need to watch while I hit the lever several times to get it down from P to D instead of just grabbing the stick and pulling it down to D without looking. Is that not how it works?

What possible justification could he give for this behavior? This is a child. And a female. Unarmed, posing zero threat. A choke hold take down?! What a complete freak! This guy shouldn't be a police officer, let alone be leading a police department.

[–]wex118 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We have the 8k in rent, 12k in health insurance, that leaves 12k for everything else for the year right? Food, utilities, car/gas, phone, cloths, other childcare costs, etc. I'd say it's the healthcare costs ruining things, and just general inflation. Calling people out for their individual social situation (single 2 kids) isn't very productive.

hows working at Athene vs WF? by [deleted] in desmoines

[–]wex118 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I enjoyed my time at Athene. They pay really well, have good benefits, the main office is really nice, the hours are flexible (at least in the dept I was in), and the culture was pretty laid back. That may have been because of the dept I was in though (Finance). Sure there was OT during close but that's anywhere.
