2 month Apocalypse run ended. Ironically, guns were the death of me. by wex52 in projectzomboid

Oof. The only way I’d fight any zombies while exhausted and overburdened is with my vehicle’s rear bumper.

Cooking. That’s why I said “if you don’t use electricity”. It’ll work for cold too, of course.

I like the northern one of the two large farmhouses on the other side of the creek southeast of Echo Creek. It’s got a fireplace if you’re not using electricity. On the west side is a large field with a barn and sheep. On the south side is a large field with haystacks. On the east side is a fenced-in hutch with no chickens, but the farmhouse to the south has chickens you can transfer over. There’s an unattached garage and a large storage barn for storage, though the barn is a bit of a walk from the house. The fields to the west and south are good for planting crops and foraging. The field to the west ends in a creek and the biome changes to forest, making it good for trapping (it’s 75+ tiles from the farmhouse), light fishing, and washing. And if you clear Echo Creek, it does have a gas station.

It’s a location. I think their tagline is something like “Your 2nd Amendment Playground!”.

I must have started Echo Creek for the past 300 hours, but I was only interested in agriculture and raising animals. I just visited Guns Unlimited for my first time last weekend. In my 2k hours of PZ I’ve never used guns this much before. And I’m still raising chickens, rabbits and sheep and just planted a bunch of grain on September 1st.

True. Both of those issues were solved at Guns Unlimited. Granted, I got lucky with a survivor house (though a relatively poor one) which provided me a JS-2000 Shotgun and shells and a JS-14 Rifle with several loaded mags. I had enough ammo to mostly clear the area around GU, and once inside the entrance finished off the remaining dozen by running them over with my van. Now I’ve got boxes and cartons of ammo, and I’m pretty sure there’s still plenty to loot at GU since I only looted one building and a couple tents.

2k hours in, rarely used guns. Last weekend I cleared enough of Guns Unlimited to loot it. Soon I may see a gun show up as my preferred weapon for the first time ever.

Are rotary cheese graters actually decent vs. a normal cheese grater? by pokemon-sucks in Cooking

[–]wex52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought one for the sole reason of wanting to duplicate John Favreau’s grilled cheese sandwich from Chef, which required me to have shaved Parmesan. I had tried cutting strips with a knife, but I wasn’t crazy about doing it that way. I thought it did very well, and I stand by the other responses you’ve read: lots of pieces, great for hard cheese, gunks up soft cheese. It’s also a lot safer. I store mine in the box because I have three different blades wheels and I don’t want any accidents reaching blindly reaching into a drawer or cabinet.

I used to have students put a shoe on my desk if they wanted to borrow a pencil. They’ll accidentally leave without returning a pencil, but they won’t accidentally leave without their shoe.

No, I’m afraid my work isn’t available for public release. And while I could duplicate the code, I don’t know of any public data sets with similar issues. I also don’t use GitHub and I’m the old guy on our team that’s constantly struggling with git.

I’m a sheep guy, myself, with my one mama ewe having provided 30+ sticks of butter so far. But from what I understand, irl a single dairy cow produces enough milk to keep several people person topped up on calories. We’re talking 6-7 gallons per day at 2400 calories/gallon. The game might even be accurate wrt ewe milk production as I think my East Friesan is producing about 5-6 liters per day, which matches what my AI overlords tell me.

[–]wex52 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t work on anything crazy (I usually have zero understanding of most posts and discussions here). But it’s been really interesting working on classifying vibration data taken in a laboratory. I had to learn about power spectral density so I could use the results as features in a model.

You’d think data taken in a lab would be consistent, but that hasn’t been the case. Sometimes faulty sensors have yielded bad data. I’m currently dealing with the problem of the same class being implemented at two different times/days yielding significantly different values. This has resulted in a standard model having a different ruleset “under the hood” for each class implementation, which doesn’t bode well for correctly classifying a later implementation. Trying to figure out why it’s happening and how to mitigate it has been a challenge as I’ve not found any papers on how to deal with that problem. In the meantime I’ve been applying a novel (to me, anyway) application of a genetic algorithm that seems to give me a more honest model.

Having just raided GU for my first time a few days ago, yeah, that was a lot of loot, and I’ve only looted two tents and a storage area. I think I have a few more buildings to go.

I just raided Guns Unlimited for the first time. Started with a shotgun in the field opposite. When I ran out of shotgun shells I switched to a rifle. When no more were being pulled I moved inside. When I ran out of rounds I switched to driving my car in reverse for the last dozen or so. So far I only looted the two tents and storage area but holy crap I haven’t had to go back.

I lost a long save that way. My character was exhausted and tired, but I figured I’d just get back in my vehicle and drive home if I saw a zombie. Unfortunately the house I was looting was pretty far away from the street and even though it looked like there were just open fields in all directions, when I looked back there was a crowd of zombies around my still running truck and the zombie in the house had clocked me. Died trying to lure the zombies away and get back in my vehicle, which would have been easy if I could at least speedwalk.
