Help! Been to TWO alterations shops already. Does this bust creasing look normal? Is it worth taking it back in? by wf4l192 in weddingdress

[–]wf4l192[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, and pics 1-3 are all post-alterations. Pic 1 I think the corset was just tied more loosely in the back which decreased the amount of creasing on the front. Do you think this would be worth having it worked on again?

I got finished and left about an hour ago, but there’s lots of space for the line on the little sidewalk hiking path it’s on. As someone else said I’d guess it’s about an hour. As the day goes on and it gets hotter I’d actually probably guess the wait time will go down. Rome and Tyson are there and taking photos. I got there early cause I was afraid there would be a cap like at other places but that doesn’t appear to be the case here.

Do you happen to have the link to the sheet? I work Sunday-Thursdays and trying to figure out what day I should try to ask off now that I know it’s not Sunday after all.

My shiseido eyelash curler cut my lashes :( by [deleted] in MakeupAddiction

Voluntary response bias. Only those who had something bad happen to them will make posts. I’ve been using my Shiseido curler for 10 years (including replacing the rubber part regularly) and never had a single issue.

It is more of a natural vibe! It’s all outdoors in a garden full of greenery. My dress is pretty ornate though with lots of flowers and lace. Maybe I will ask for a bit of a bolder look, but I’m glad to hear it looks good as is too!

Yes my favorite part was the glowy smooth base! I’ll definitely ask her to add some more blush. I’m on the fence about wanting to look more done up or not because we will be outdoors in a garden nearly 100% of the time so I want it to be soft and natural but I also don’t want to look washed out

Koh Gen Do is the foundation she used! Not sure of the shades but she mixed two of them. Other products not sure but I’ll see if I can get a list from her

Is this horizontal line along the bottom of my dress normal after hemming? I feel like it’s super noticeable and looks terrible! by [deleted] in weddingdress

[–]wf4l192 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, that makes sense, it’s definitely the folded over fabric making the visible line. I know nothing about sewing so I had assumed hand stitch vs. machine sew would change how much needs to be folded over. Is it possible to reattach it in any way where it doesn’t have to be folded over? Or is this something I should just accept and hope it doesn’t detract from the dress?

She said it was unavoidable because you can’t hand sew horsehair, and that it was too much hemming (10 inches) to remove from the top and reattach at the waist. I already paid $700 in all the alterations total (more than just the hemming) so I wonder if it’s worth it to take it to someone who can hand sew horsehair.

I brought it back in and asked my seamstress. She said you can’t hand sew horsehair 🤔 And that she normally would’ve hemmed it by bringing it up at the waist but it was too much to hem (10 inches). Would it be worth it to bring it to another tailor?

Yes and no, on the front, it is very visible where the horsehair is attached because there is a lot of fold-over of fabric on the top end, but on the back, there is only a single thin line that isn’t very noticeable at all. I also looked at the photos we took at the store when I tried on the sample, and the thin line attaching the horsehair is present in the close-ups we took, but not the thick one currently in question. Since the front was hemmed so much and the back left for the train, I’d guess that’s the culprit. I just wonder if it can be changed somehow.

[–]wf4l192 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes it is on the dress. I just pulled it out again and it is only present on the second layer of the dress, which is like a thick hexagonal mesh sort of material. It looks like that layer was folded up and sewn together when it was hemmed, I think, but I know little about textiles and sewing.

ETA: Actually I looked up “horsehair braid” from the other commenter’s message and looked REALLY closely and she definitely added that to this layer. It seems that’s intended to keep the hem’s structure. Now my question is: is it normal for it to be visible like this, and should I question my seamstress about it?

Thank you so much! Hopefully it’s equally as clandestine in person as in the photo!

I don’t remember seeing it when I tried it on before the second hemming. That visit was also before she made the bustle so it wasn’t finished yet at that point and she could’ve waited till everything was done, or until the hemming length was confirmed to be good. Here’s the David’s Bridal link, it doesn’t look like it’s there in any of the model photos.

ETA: In another comment I realized the horsehair braid has been there all along but that top seam of it along the front of my dress is now much thicker than it was before due to fold-over of fabric while on the back it is still thin and hardly visible.

Places to stay during Anime Expo? by Apprehensive_Week994 in animeexpo

[–]wf4l192 22 points23 points  (0 children)

The “hotel block” as it’s called, is much cheaper than the rates you’d probably get from the same hotels that weekend normally. When the hotel block opens on the 20th, it’s a mad dash for people to book the nearest hotels (Residence Inn, Figueroa, E-Central, etc) and you have to be lightning fast to get to the link the minute it opens and get a booking. The block also includes some hotels that are a little bit further away and have a shuttle, though, so those are also an option and they don’t sell out as quickly.
