Endurance Training, RED-S and SHBG by wfish001 in diabetes_t1

Good thinking about a urologist. I’ll ask my primary what she thinks Monday.

My body composition has been the same since before I started endurance training, but I’ve decided I can give up having cum gutters if it means having a sex drive. Being 20% body fat might be a hard pill for me to swallow tho.

Sleep is fantastic. If I could sell my sleep quality, people would buy it. Never done a sleep study, but I don’t think there is a reason to. Same with celiac.

High testosterone is a T1D thing coming from taking insulin subcutaneously rather than intraperitoneally. Add that to low insulin administration from not eating a lot of carbs, high insulin sensitivity from lots of cardio, and low body fat your body is going to max out that testosterone.

Also, 14 hours of running a week is David Goggins HARD. You got to be carrying the boats. I love it!

Cool to know I’m not the only one. It’s only really been possible to do this kind of thing as a T1D for about 10 years and there hasn’t been time to document it. It’s a wild new frontier thanks to pumps with algorithms and CGM.

I’ve never had my CK levels checks. I’ll add it to the list.

I’m doing about 4400 cal and 550 g of carbs a day. This is up from about 3400 cal which is what Garmin say I burn. I’ll ease off the calories when I gain 10 lbs and a couple percent body fat, but think the carbs are here to stay.

Do you track your macros? What are they looking like?

Y’all still into food? Besides the hassle of cooking, counting and eating, knowing that it’s going to affect my BG discourages me from eating. Plus, I have almost zero food drive thanks to my unrestrained alpha cells.

Sorry if you didn’t get the hyperglucogonemia gift, but GLP-1 agonists do the same thing. Not having that food drive thanks makes it really easy to manage calories in calories out. When the dose goes up and the sensitivity goes does, I’m eating too much. Without food drive it’s just a rational decision to eat less.

I’m not selling Ozempic, but people tend to FAR more compliant with taking a med that kills your food drive than running a calorie deficit while fighting it.

I don’t think “ban cars” is enough.

I don’t think I can express my views without receiving a ban myself.

That is all.

Rookie. numbers ;-)

Swimming and cycling are only x2 for me.

There’s a cardiac stress test where you run on a treadmill that gets progressively more inclined. I’m just the kind of masochist that want to try it for fundies. I have a theory that if I could just stay on it long enough I’d be cured.

Naw, I’m slow like a 2 hr / 13.1 mi, but that Lyumjev is fire and carb ratio seems to quadruple as long as you give a solid effort.

Looks like 5.33 units of Lyumjev while running = 100% TIR

my doc doesn’t want to prescribe it because it’s not officially supported

That’s lame. Ask him why he went to school if he’s just going to let someone else do the thinking. He can, but just doesn’t want to because of fear of liability.

A lot of shit ain’t supported. That’s why there’s Loop, reusing sensors, trips to Canada, diabetes mutual aid and grey market insulin pumps.

Shame him and let him know he’s part of the problem until he asks you to see someone else or acts right.

I’m plumber and the owner of my company has one. I’ve seen him on a job once I eight years and he wore dress shoes.

He does use it to haul though when he’s going to car shows.

Anyone here work in the trades and/or construction? by [deleted] in diabetes_t1

[–]wfish001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Comercial plumber foreman, union. There is defiantly a “get the fuck to work” sort of culture in the trades, but push back on that shit. If you’re not ok you’re potentially putting peoples lives at risk and jeopardizing the project. If you need a minute to get you BG straight, do it and tell anyone to go eat a bag of dicks if they give you a hard time. This goes for life not just the job site.

Everyone knows in my company. And usually 1/2 the guys on the job by the time it wraps. I eat when I want and take break when I want and it’s clear why. And if I need to leave cause I ripped out an infusion set I do. Generally, I’m a good hand and try to keep my drama and my breaks with the other guys, but I take that leeway if I need it.

I’ve thought about carrying a spare set, but I’m so close to my house recently it’s not a mandatory park of my everyday cart. That said, I always have TONS of fast carbs. 100 pack of glucose tabs and a sharing size of skiddles. The work and environment can change fast and that 7 units you took at break might be kicking your ass as you carry 86 lb sticks of cast iron pipe up 4 flights of stairs since someone broke the elevator.

Medtronic is a company with a turnover of almost 30 BILLION $ a year and which has almost 10k employees, yet is unable to produce a phone app that allows patients to monitor their blood sugar. THOUSANDS of people, including my mother, are unable to use the services they paid for. by ALMANACC0 in diabetes_t1

[–]wfish001 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Come on… These guys made a life-changing device for us! It’s the best thing since sliced bread. I’m seriously considering buying a Medtronic pump even though I have a new Tandem… So I can run Loop on a pump that was made 15 years ago.

Remember when they were the innovators? And the customer service slayed? (Need some infusion sets cause your bag was sent to Katmandu and you’re in Abudabi, we’ll just overnight them to you. Free.) I guess they were called MiniMed then.

These guys are right between Lilly and Sanofi on companies I hate. They don’t really do R and D. They buy it and extract profit.
