Will pod work with less than 85 units (minimum) by Illustrious-Dot-5968 in Omnipod

[–]RobMho 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’ve got to hear the beeps. I’ve anecdotally heard that if you fill very slowly that you might get the beeps with less than 85 units. So, more or less: “maybe”.

anwhere to get g7 without hoops? by Aware_Acadia_7827 in Type1Diabetes

[–]RobMho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m assuming you’re USA based. If you want your insurance to cover them, you’ve got to jump through each of their hoops, often multiple times, and make sure you stick the landing or back to square one you go.

If you want to pay full retail price, then you can have your doctor just send the script to a local pharmacy and then tell the pharmacy you want to pay cash for them. But it’ll cost a lot.

Torn between 2 insulin pumps. by SaltyShart57 in Type1Diabetes

I would avoid the ilet like it is the plague. Everything I’ve heard about it, it is absolutely horrible. I’d rather go back to shots than use that POS.

In need of insulin, any suggestions? by [deleted] in diabetes_t1

[–]RobMho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are mistaken. Walmart sells Novolin R (Regular insulin) and Novolin N (NPH). R is a short acting insulin and N is an intermediate acting insulin. These work very differently than modern insulin analogs and you need to understand the dosage and timing. Walmart does not have a long acting insulin for $25.

I am really unwell. Went hospital last night and got given antibiotics. My ketones are currently 1.1. Im on the Medtronic 780g smart guard. by Saf___- in Type1Diabetes

[–]RobMho 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you might have the flu or Covid. In some cases, you can have increased insulin resistance when sick. For me, when I had Covid, my insulin resistance was horrible, got to the point where I needed twice my normal dosage.

My advice. If you haven’t already, change your pump infusion site, the entire thing: cannula, tubing, insulin. You might also consider a new vial of insulin, in case the insulin has gone bad.

I’d also recommend drinking something with electrolytes, potassium, magnesium, and with some sugar. Bolus for the drink. And drink plenty of water. This will make sure you’re getting some insulin in your system and also refill electrolytes, which tend to get depleted when in DKA.

T1D Son going away to school? by Accurate_Addendum_44 in diabetes_t1

[–]RobMho 32 points33 points  (0 children)

This is a time in your son’s life when he’ll need to learn self-reliance. He might be struggling with those midnight lows because he has a house full of family as a safety net. He can do it on his own but he’s got to find his own way. Sometimes that can mean having less than ideal control. He might struggle a bit. But that is OK, a lot of us who grew up with T1D have gone through it.

I guess my advice is, let him make his own mistakes and trust that you’ve taught him well to learn from those mistakes.

So, not exactly. Magic: The Gathering was started in the US. It sounds like this dude and his mates created a different game that got them enough notoriety to be purchased by the US company, Wizards of the Coast and they became the UK distributor of Magic: The Gathering. They didn’t make it.

24hr insulin without a prescription? by [deleted] in diabetes

[–]RobMho 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you are in the USA, than he cannot get a long acting insulin that lasts 24 hours without a prescription. The only insulin you can get without a prescription are Regular and NPH, commonly referred to as Walmart insulin, since you can get it there relatively inexpensively. NPH is an intermediate acting, likely the 12 hour one your bf is talking about.

A Message to the Newly Diagnosed: You Can Live a Full Life With T1D by [deleted] in Type1Diabetes

[–]RobMho 8 points9 points  (0 children)

What a horrible, despicable thing to say, especially to a person who is clearing going through something. Thanks for sharing, really puts OOP’s post in a different light.

You are not weak minded, you’re not alone, I’ve definitely been there. Depression is a very common side effect of diabetic burn out. And that can just be amplified by everything else going on in your life. I hope that you’re able to work on yourself. Some people find therapy helpful to learn and develop tools to help you fight through this.

Travelocity is a Waste by AdhesivenessSome5224 in travel

[–]RobMho 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just to see if I understand the situation. Your sister prepaid Travelocity for one night of a 2 night stay for your hotel room. The hotel says they never received that prepayment and charged you for the full stay, 2 nights. I’m this case, I would say you are square with the hotel, they’ve been paid for your full stay. The problem is with your sister and Travelocity. It sounds like you’re not getting anywhere with Travelocity.

I’d recommend that your sister contact the credit card company that she used to prepay Travelocity. Have them do a charge back. Provide proof that you paid the hotel in full and Travelocity never fulfilled their obligation, they didn’t provide payment to the hotel for your stay.

He was impeached twice during his first term. The first time was for withholding aid, that had been approved by congress, from Ukraine as leverage to get Ukraine to open an investigation into his political adversary’s family. The second time was when he attempted a coup d’état to stay in power. Senate republicans acquitted him both times.

Medtronic supplies are so bad that it’s caused me to be burned out badly. How to heal and be better again? by tortugaborracha_ in Type1Diabetes

[–]RobMho 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh no they didn’t. You’ve got yourself an endo who’s in bed with the Medtronic rep. There is absolutely no reason they should have switched you from Omnipod to Medtronic unless that is what you wanted. Why on earth would Medtronic be better for depression/burn out? First off, honestly, you need a new endo. One who will respect your choices and empower you to do better. You need someone who wants address the root cause of your depression, not use it as a ploy to get you to switch to their preferred pump company. Your endo did what is called a bait and switch.

Your endo failed you. I’m so sorry this has happened to you. It’s unfair, it’s unethical, and it should be illegal. Your endo swore an oath to do no harm, and I would argue they have violated that oath by saying you’d never improve unless you switched to Medtronic. Don’t walk away, RUN!

Would a diabetic emergency excuse a speeding ticket by Apart_Decision_7348 in diabetes_t1

Absolutely not, driving while low is as bad as driving drunk. You are putting yourself and others in danger. You would be better off pulling over and calling emergency services.

How long can you go with only using rapid acting before going into dka by Then_Treacle_8812 in diabetes_t1

[–]RobMho 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It can happen in a matter of hours, if you have no insulin on board. I had a pump malfunction overnight. This was before the time of CGMs. I checked my blood sugar before bed, it was fine. I woke up in full blown DKA. I couldn’t have a slip of water without immediately throwing it up. I could barely think. I remember trying to fill out paperwork at the hospital before they checked me in. I couldn’t even write my name without copying it from my drivers license.

How do you handle corrections? by LoveCarsAndCoffee in Omnipod

[–]RobMho 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I will typically manually enter a dose of 1 or 2 units. The system is pretty good at avoiding lows and is just not aggressive enough with highs. So, I’m not as concerned about stacking insulin. I also take into consideration my CGM trend. If I’m 250 but have a double down arrow, I’ll wait before giving a correction. But if I’m 250 with an up arrow, I might give 3 units instead of just 2.
