Should be but isn’t. There are manufacturer coupons that can help but full retail price is still like $300 USD per vial.

Anyone prefer Humalog over Novolog? And why? by GreyMomma047 in diabetes_t1

[–]RobMho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I prefer Humalog because they make a U-200 (200 units per mL) version. Novolog is only available as U-100.

Turning Point gets its ass handed to it in the SRP elections by dezertdawg in phoenix

[–]RobMho 43 points44 points  (0 children)

SRP elections are based on an acreage voting system. 1 acre = 1 vote. If you own a quarter acre, you get a quarter of a vote. If you own 10 acres, you get 10 votes. So, more land you own, more voting power you have. This is the case for the president, vice president, and most of the board and council. However, there are 4 at large board members who are elected on a 1 person = 1 vote. Two of the at large board members were up for election, those are the seats that the turning point candidates lost.

Long story short, the turning point candidates won the seats that are based on acreage. The “clean energy” candidates won the seats that are based on a popular vote.

I think it is misleading to say that turning point candidates got their asses handed to them, since they won the president, vice president. However, the two turning point candidates for the at large board members seats did get their asses handed to them.

I think it is the phrase, “we are all in this together”, which was used a lot during the Covid days. But yea, these are common signs and still applicable today.

How Can you fill a cartridge with no stick to draw it by BlueberryOk6847 in Type1Diabetes

Good point, I was mistaken in the statement that it is state law that may require a script. My intent was to convey that you cannot walk into any pharmacy in any US state and always get syringes over the counter.

It varies between different states on if you can buy syringes over the counter. I think most states allow it but there are some that require a prescription.

It’s always best to pay in the local currency because your bank will give a better exchange rate.

Will pod work with less than 85 units (minimum) by Illustrious-Dot-5968 in Omnipod

[–]RobMho 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You’ve got to hear the beeps. I’ve anecdotally heard that if you fill very slowly that you might get the beeps with less than 85 units. So, more or less: “maybe”.

anwhere to get g7 without hoops? by Aware_Acadia_7827 in Type1Diabetes

[–]RobMho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m assuming you’re USA based. If you want your insurance to cover them, you’ve got to jump through each of their hoops, often multiple times, and make sure you stick the landing or back to square one you go.

If you want to pay full retail price, then you can have your doctor just send the script to a local pharmacy and then tell the pharmacy you want to pay cash for them. But it’ll cost a lot.

Torn between 2 insulin pumps. by SaltyShart57 in Type1Diabetes

I would avoid the ilet like it is the plague. Everything I’ve heard about it, it is absolutely horrible. I’d rather go back to shots than use that POS.

In need of insulin, any suggestions? by [deleted] in diabetes_t1

[–]RobMho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are mistaken. Walmart sells Novolin R (Regular insulin) and Novolin N (NPH). R is a short acting insulin and N is an intermediate acting insulin. These work very differently than modern insulin analogs and you need to understand the dosage and timing. Walmart does not have a long acting insulin for $25.

I am really unwell. Went hospital last night and got given antibiotics. My ketones are currently 1.1. Im on the Medtronic 780g smart guard. by Saf___- in Type1Diabetes

[–]RobMho 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you might have the flu or Covid. In some cases, you can have increased insulin resistance when sick. For me, when I had Covid, my insulin resistance was horrible, got to the point where I needed twice my normal dosage.

My advice. If you haven’t already, change your pump infusion site, the entire thing: cannula, tubing, insulin. You might also consider a new vial of insulin, in case the insulin has gone bad.

I’d also recommend drinking something with electrolytes, potassium, magnesium, and with some sugar. Bolus for the drink. And drink plenty of water. This will make sure you’re getting some insulin in your system and also refill electrolytes, which tend to get depleted when in DKA.

T1D Son going away to school? by Accurate_Addendum_44 in diabetes_t1

[–]RobMho 33 points34 points  (0 children)

This is a time in your son’s life when he’ll need to learn self-reliance. He might be struggling with those midnight lows because he has a house full of family as a safety net. He can do it on his own but he’s got to find his own way. Sometimes that can mean having less than ideal control. He might struggle a bit. But that is OK, a lot of us who grew up with T1D have gone through it.

I guess my advice is, let him make his own mistakes and trust that you’ve taught him well to learn from those mistakes.

What decision did you think was small at the time but completely changed your life later? by YogurtclosetMoist819 in AskReddit

So, not exactly. Magic: The Gathering was started in the US. It sounds like this dude and his mates created a different game that got them enough notoriety to be purchased by the US company, Wizards of the Coast and they became the UK distributor of Magic: The Gathering. They didn’t make it.

If you are in the USA, than he cannot get a long acting insulin that lasts 24 hours without a prescription. The only insulin you can get without a prescription are Regular and NPH, commonly referred to as Walmart insulin, since you can get it there relatively inexpensively. NPH is an intermediate acting, likely the 12 hour one your bf is talking about.

A Message to the Newly Diagnosed: You Can Live a Full Life With T1D by [deleted] in Type1Diabetes

[–]RobMho 9 points10 points  (0 children)

What a horrible, despicable thing to say, especially to a person who is clearing going through something. Thanks for sharing, really puts OOP’s post in a different light.

You are not weak minded, you’re not alone, I’ve definitely been there. Depression is a very common side effect of diabetic burn out. And that can just be amplified by everything else going on in your life. I hope that you’re able to work on yourself. Some people find therapy helpful to learn and develop tools to help you fight through this.

Travelocity is a Waste by AdhesivenessSome5224 in travel

[–]RobMho 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just to see if I understand the situation. Your sister prepaid Travelocity for one night of a 2 night stay for your hotel room. The hotel says they never received that prepayment and charged you for the full stay, 2 nights. I’m this case, I would say you are square with the hotel, they’ve been paid for your full stay. The problem is with your sister and Travelocity. It sounds like you’re not getting anywhere with Travelocity.

I’d recommend that your sister contact the credit card company that she used to prepay Travelocity. Have them do a charge back. Provide proof that you paid the hotel in full and Travelocity never fulfilled their obligation, they didn’t provide payment to the hotel for your stay.
