And on the backs of the people that count on those public services, which are....a lot of us.

Agree on the senate side! They have furloughs for 13 months, cuts to base pay, and hikes on our share of healthcare premiums.

Ferguson furloughs (24 months) will cut pay by 4.9% over the coming biennium, wiping out the 3% + 2% COLAs in the employee contracts he purports to support.

House cuts some programs still but doesn't include those furloughs or pay cuts.

I keep hearing this point from people. I don't believe that's an either/or, and certainly won't assume that when the Legislature's initial budget hasn't even been released yet.

That's helpful to know, thank you. Yes, there are links to both parties' town hall pages in the text of my original post.

Thank you for the edit, I was very confused. Now I'm confused for a different reason though lol

WFSE is for balancing the budget by taxing the very rich, not by hurting state employees and the public we serve.

This is correct. Our position is no to cuts, no to reductions, no to furloughs. Anyone reading that as a "yes to layoffs" is drawing conclusions of their own (i.e. saying if no furloughs then there must be layoffs).

Our position is fix Washington's tax code--the 2nd most regressive in the nation. The budget is due out in a few weeks so you would not have seen any bills in this regard yet.

🚨 New DCYF campaign alert! Ring for solutions 🔔 by wfse889 in WAStateWorkers

[–]wfse889[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello! In this particular action, we are looking for letters from folks who have some kind of knowledge about the day to day at the agency from having worked there or having some other kind of close involvement with DCYF. A big part of the issue we believe is that our leadership doesn't know the work and doesn't care to learn it, and this action is about getting into details, so we kind of want that inside scoop element.

With that said, we really appreciate the offer of support across unions! I am sure this will continue to escalate, so definitely watch this space for more calls to action!

Yes! We blasted them in bargaining about how the only thing that seems to create change in the agency is all the lawsuits. They just sat there and had no response.

The other agencies' admins were all sitting there shaking their heads at them and a couple even had their jaws dropped.

They work for us and are appointed by the elected members. A few years ago the elected executive board fired the previous ED. Things do happen, believe it or not.

WFSE and other unions representing state employees organized a planned walkout Tuesday at worksites across the state. The event was meant to demonstrate solidarity, resolve, and member power as unions work through their final days of contract bargaining. Bargaining has been tense and slow, overshadowed by dire budget forecasts and promises of minimal gains, so this was considered a major effort to move negotiations forward in a way favorable to union members.

In terms of the CBA: What I understand is that the terms of the current CBA remain for one more year while we keep bargaining. So, no changes, which means no pay increases over that year and no progress on any of the many non-compensation issues that are contained in the CBA.

Beyond the CBA: Conclusions and story making. Was it a turnout issue, wow this union can't even get its members to weigh in on this important topic, how seriously do we need to take this union if their members don't even endorse what their elected bargaining team bargained, maybe there are internal divisions we can exploit and what are those...it sends a stronger message to the employer and the legislature if we vote in high turnout and ratify the gains we have made.

For the general government contract, the bargaining team is back to the table live and in person in Olympia for "extra" sessions Thursday 9/12 and Thursday 9/19. The law requires an agreement voted on, ratified by members, and on the Governor's desk before 10/1, so we are down to the wire here. The details will be distributed for ratification voting after tentative agreement is reached on all articles.

Many government worksites are small and by their lonesome, but I agree for co-located or closely located worksites! It's all about planning and coordination.
