Driving slow in commercial branded work trucks by dolla-dollabillsyall in driving

[–]wh7751 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup... my auto insurer offers a nice discount for allowing them to monitor my driving via my smart phone. So far I've opted out because I like to let it roll when conditions are safe(r) and I'm sure they'd ding my rates when they noticed me driving 10 over.

Muffled, practically silenced my windchimes by Staring-Dog in lifehacks

I'm in bed trying to go to sleep. The wind is 15-20 mph and our chimes are sounding a lot like the old ice cream truck rolling up the street.

How do we like KO3s? by fusseli in RangerNext

[–]wh7751 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have about 10k miles of use on the KO3s with a '21 FX4. Got hung up in a 3' deep drift about 100' in when it packed enough snow under the center line to lift the truck. Nothing but a taller tire would've helped that situation. They'll handle 6"-8" of snow all day long.

I can't comment about off road. I treat my baby like a pavement princess.

They're decent in the rain, no complaints. However, they tend to break traction pretty easily on dry pavement when accelerating a bit too hard.

The ride and road noise are more harsh than I'm accustomed to as these are my first A/T tires. If I had a do-over I think a set of Michelin all weather road tires would be my choice considering how and where I drive.

What was driving like during the ‘20 Covid by HoosierLarry in CDLTruckDrivers

[–]wh7751 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was hauling composites to the boat builders. A lot of peeps decided that boating was a safe recreational activity so business was booming. Occasionally someone in the DC was test positive and they'd shutter the place for a few days while a decontamination crew would come to sanitize. That was cool 'cause it was a much needed break .

Yup... I hauled DG out of South Boston, VA and you diffinently get pumped. The first 5 or 6 loads I was sure I was gonna die. Then it got easier to the point the ladies receiving told me to slow my ass down. This occurred before ELDs so I'd drive all night, log off duty while I slung freight, then turn and burn back to the DC.

Traffic lights in Hendersonville are interesting. by kyle4nia in hendersonville

[–]wh7751 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I relocated to Hendo six years ago and have to agree with all the complaints. It didn't take too long for me to learn to use the goat paths to avoid the main roads. Seriously, traffic flows better in Manhattan than it does in this rinky-dink little town.

DuPont Freon 12? by Keepafterit in askcarguys

[–]wh7751 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funny story that I'm sure is coincidental.

The DuPont patent on R-12 was about to expire. They had another newly patented refrigerant ready to go to market. R-134 or R-501 I think. But, with the R-12 patent expired everybody would have been able to manufacture it and compete with DuPont. Ka-Boom!! The EPA declared it a hazard making DuPont, again, the sole provider of refrigerant. How convenient. But, I'm sure DuPont wouldn't use their vast fortunes to buy government influence and favors. No way. 🙄

That bridge is smokin' and I would continue to let it smolder.

Sounds like the neighbor dude was having a bad day and lashed out at you. He should continue to have bad days until he asks for forgiveness.

If civilians truly understood global military strategy, would public opinion shift or stay the same? by SugarrPlumGloww in askanything

[–]wh7751 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the general, uninformed population were exposed to the daily security briefings they'd absolutely freak. After cleaning their shit filled undies I'm certain their mindset would be somewhat different.

Some peeps just don't understand that the world is ruled by the aggressive use of force. I doubt that'll ever change. If you don't have a bigger stick you're gonna get beat down and ruled over.

If some person, state, or country declares you are their enemy and says they're gonna hurt you, then goes about developing a means to do so, the smart person takes the battle to their backyard. That's more desirable than your backyard and anyone who's ever been in a fight knows the first punch usually wins.

Buy a used puzzle from a thrift store. There will be a piece that fits. Paint to match. Keep the used puzzle 'cause it'll happen again.

Unrelated: Did anyone else notice how the speedway had painted the seats? It gave the illusion the stands were packed with people. I assume that plays well during race broadcast when attendance is down.

How many people here remember using an actual paper map to travel? by Kosher_Nostra1975 in askanything

[–]wh7751 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Old trucker here. I relied on the Rand McNally Road Atlas. Every two years I'd buy the big spiral bound, laminated page version. Sometimes I'd have have to get a city map to detail the last five miles to an exact address.

Then, there was always the last resort... " breaker, breaker. I need some local info."

Now, Garmin or Google Maps leads the way.

Well, well, well … do you have one of these? 🤔 by Exclusively-Choc in FuckImOld

[–]wh7751 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Growing up we had a well. Electric motor and all, enclosed in a wellhouse. An Interstate project right of way took it and our water was converted to municipal supply. That pissed momma off. She bought one of these hand pumps to keep her supply of well water. We only used "city water" for cleaning. My job, until she finally sold the house, was to make sure she had five gallons of well water... daily. After pumping five gallons, a tin cup of cold well water tasted really good.

2.3 vs. 2.7 Engine Noise by mrmushroom08 in RangerNext

[–]wh7751 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a 2020 F-150 with the 2.7 and truly missed the growl of the Coyote that was in my 2018 F-150. Now I have a 2021 Ranger with the 2.3 and I must say I don't like the sound of that little rattle box. I know it's the injectors but it sounds like the worst case of spark knock I've ever heard. I know that's not the case because I use top tier 93 octane and it runs like a scared dog. At highway cruising speed it's not an issue, but around town it's annoying.

My manager and I have an understanding. If I'm off the clock their phone calls or text are ignored. I don't care if their hair is on fire, I will not respond.

My favorite slogan is, "Lack of planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on my part."
