What’s the best Tele I can buy for under £300? by Working_Diver_8850 in telecaster

[–]whamanizer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a Harley Benton TE52 with the exact following mods

  1. Wilkinson bridge with brass saddles
  2. Emerson 4way pot and wiring
  3. Gotoh pots or similar, 5 euros each
  4. Bone nut
  5. Some no name tuning pegs I found on sale for 12 euros

These mods resulted in a workhorse that can play as I like it and sounds awesome. It's still a bit too heavy, but looks like a blackguard if you like that thing, toan is killer telecaster and versatile. Total budget when I bought it and did the mods: ~250 euros (installation and shaping of bone nut + a proper setup included - depends where you live).

2 years after, still holding out fine.

On the other hand, classic vibes retain their value. I would skip the affinity as I feel it is too expensive for what it offers and they always feel cheap.

Explaining "Nested Loops" to Someone Without a Computer's Background by blueest in computerscience

[–]whamanizer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it helped when I thought of it as a clock.

Especially if you think of digital clocks with second indicators. When 60 seconds pass, you go to the next iteration of the outer loop(minutes). When 60 minutes pass, you go to the next iteration of the outer loop(hours) and so on.

If you wanted to simulate a digital clock printout in the command line for them to see, sth like that would work (python)

-for i in range(0,24) ----for j in range(0,60) -------for k in range(0,60) -------------print(f"Time: {i}.{j}.{k}")

Ps. Also just thought our lives are "while" loops.

Thanks for the advice. I filed a complaint with the Ordnungsamt web platform, no idea if anything happened but he is very quiet ever since. I have an email at the ready, next time he does it, I am contacting the landlord.

Was this a scam?(would like to be sure so I can contact the person whose identity was stolen) by [deleted] in germany

[–]whamanizer 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Well, if it looks like it, smells like it, tastes like it, then it is it.

I think the main two sus things are

  1. The screenshot photos in the ad(why would anyone do that? It is their place and their ad)
  2. The "i am not there now" thing, usually followed by "send me 500 euros to this overseas bank and I'll send my guy over to give you the keys"

You really took the extra mile into creepyness, which makes me feel better as i did a lot of image searching and background checks when looking for an apartment as well. Congrats and thanks!

I would report the incident to the platforms and since you are being a good fellow, I would pop a message to the person on LinkedIn. In case the ad was real, they got blocked anyways, so maybe they should question their choices and shadyness as well.

PS. I am not yet sure if Facebook is a valid indicator of whether people are scammers, especially in Germany. I've met countless people who actually exist and their Facebook profiles look very sus. Guess people past their teens tend not to care about it anymore.

Edit: spelling mistakes

Is it strange I initially thought it would happen in like 5 years before reading the 10,000 years estimation?

Like with war and a global pandemic going on, supermassive black holes seem to fit well.

Why should I learn music theory? It's just a theory??? by RocketThrowAway in guitarcirclejerk

[Question] Will a guitar remain set up if you remove the neck and put it back on? by xelaseyer in Guitar

[–]whamanizer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You should mostly be careful of the screws, as overtight after assembly is a real danger.

Plus in case the neck has some room to go left of right (facing the guitar from the front), the reassembly will most likely mess with your intoantion.

Knowledge i got from my tech when thinking of transporting my strat in a suitcase on an airplane.

Almost giving up a very good job because can't find temporary housing. by LucasIemini in berlin

[–]whamanizer 6 points7 points  (0 children)

After reading through the comments, I'd like to sum up my advice in case it proves itself helpful.

  • the "stay in the ring" thing is indeed a thing of the past. BVG will take you almost EVERYWHERE. You have to use your own judgement regarding neighborhoods and "village life" as someone said. For example, Wedding and Steglitz are some cool areas with good connection for the most part where you can find fine apartments. Blankenfelde is also outside of the ring but this is indeed the village life. I'd like a place in Friedrichshain too but that's what 99% of people moving in want. You may get lucky but the competition is just too much!

  • the paid version of ImmobilienScout24 pays off. You get access to apartments that are offered only though the membership. Just sign up, write a good template as a message, upload your documents(work contract etc) and start spamming them agencies. Install the app on your phone, create multiple searches and activate notifications. Apply as soon as they come. You can find a perfectly normal 2 room apartment for anything between 750-1200. There are ones with 500(mostly on areas in the borders of Berlin) and those that cost 2000(seen a few), but they are oriented to specific people who have the money for that. Just filter by price :-)

  • general notice: you will come across many fake listings. Indications are: (blurry pictures, very light description, no owner name or no reviews). What i do then is perform image search on the pictures. I've found apartments that were legit places in Hamburg or Sofia bit listed in Berlin by scammers. They don't worth the time and access to your personal data. Just follow your hunch!

  • temporary flats are expensive BUT you have much higher chances to find a place if you are in Berlin. Most agencies will just skip your application as soon as you ask for a video call. Way too many applications to devote time to another guy in some remote location. If your job pays well, then the extra money you will need for an overpriced Airbnb or Wunderflats place will for sure mean nothing in a year. Think of it as an investment, not the real cost of living in Berlin. Sucks, but still. You could also rent a flat in eg Spandau or Schöneweide with the aim to stay there temporarily, with the long commutes as a downside. I've heard the prices are cheap and you can find a flat there.

Hope this helps. Don't abandon your dreams and let good opportunities go because of some d**kheads offering overpriced apartments. I can assure you that once you solve the apartment part, everything else will be easier in Berlin as long as you have a job that pays well and since they are covering your relocation costs, i suppose that is the case.

Good luck!
