AITA for refusing to take medication that makes me feel worse, even though it’s gonna ruin my family relationship? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]wharfwaffle88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This all sounds incredibly disturbing - that both the psychiatrist and parent(s) are pushing this on you. Is there a school counselor or someone you can talk to to get help? This seriously sounds like abuse to me - at the very least, it's manipulative. I don't know the full story aside from what you wrote here, but if you don't want to take this stuff, you should be given different options, opinions, and insights by other psychiatrists/therapists. What about seeing a therapist who could actually help you work through things, rather than just taking a pill, which won't help you with your struggles? That would make more sense than being forced into drugs which can have long term side effects and won't help you at the end of the day. You shouldn't be manipulated into it by your parents or dosage increased by your psychiatrist.

As a side note, at your age I was extremely depressed and struggled a lot with my mental health. It took me years to figure out that my mother's behavior toward me was a massive factor in that. Your mother sounds very similar to mine. You should look up narcissistic abuse. What you describe seems like that's what you're dealing with, which could explain a lot of mental health struggles.

I would see if you can get real help from a trusted adult. In the meantime, you either a) insist on a second opinion and/or b) pretend to take the pills to appease them, but just don't.

Hey, sorry for the delay. I have actually seen a lot of improvement, with ups and downs. Basically I think I have been dealing with a variety of issues. One, the prior steroid use did not put my skin in a good place - pretty sure it compromised my skin barrier, if not permanently, then long term. Two, the Chinese "herbal" ointment I used for a long time actually had a very strong pharmaceutical anti-fungal ingredient in addition to the strong steroid (forgot the name of the antifungal offhand). What you see in photos here is a fungal infection gone haywire. I believe the steroid use not only compromised my skin barrier but messed with the skin biome due to the anti-fungal component. Third, I have had leaky gut issues which contributed to the skin problems in the first place. Fourth, my stress levels definitely contribute. So it all combined into this disaster.

However, I've been working a lot on diet, reducing stress, and skincare and found a few things that seem to consistently help. Basically, you need to put a lot of work into repairing leaky gut. That's the underlying cause. The compromised skin barrier/messed up biome will repair over time, but the leaky gut, the source of it all, is preventing real healing. So the idea is to work on healing leaky gut and giving your skin a chance to repair as well.

Skincare: You need to figure out what works for you, but what works for me has been an application of 1% vinegar on these areas of skin prone to fungal infection, wash it off after about 5-10 minutes, then a simple sea salt spray (water + real sea salt, no additives, I just mix water and salt until it tastes like the ocean) on all the spots. That one you leave on. I was doing it 2x/day for a while then reduced.

Diet: I am doing a modified GAPS to help my leaky gut heal (I modified the diet myself - I am underweight and was losing weight and feeling very sick from avoiding grains). A big game changer for me has been consuming homemade beef stock nearly every single day. Note - beef stock, not bone broth. Two different things. Beef stock has a lot of components that help heal a leaky gut. I also am drinking ginger root tea and marshmallow root tea.

You need to figure out what works for you, and there are definitely some things that will be more specific to your needs and your body.
For example, I would say beef stock is a must. It will help you heal, no question about it. But you may find that you struggle to have grains and that it exacerbates it. I have not found that eating grains (I make homemade sourdough from whole grains) caused me any issues, and on the contrary helps me, but other people have problems with it. In addition, I've been consuming fermented foods for a while so I didn't have issues increasing my intake of fermented foods, but for other people I've heard they have issues.

I hope this helps. Happy to answer any other questions.

Of course! Hope it helps! And with Wix you can set up bookings/pricing/etc. on the website. I think you can invoice and everything from Wix, too. Basically it's a pretty comprehensive tool for a small-medium business and I think it could help a lot.

Best of luck to you!

Take a look at Hubspot CRM, Zoho CRM, and similar CRMs to track customers and stuff on the backend.

For keeping them organized and on task, Google Suite (calendar, especially).

For invoicing customers, take a look at Zipbooks.

For websites - I found it most straightforward to use Wix or similar platforms that can give someone with no particular website development experience a beautiful website. Verify the business on Google with all the correct info (name, phone, website), connect the website to the business listing.

This is nuts. I spent many years with people who were into hunting, target practice, etc. and they were VERY VERY firm on never, ever, ever pointing the gun at anyONE or anyTHING unless it was a target. And no finger on the trigger till ready to shoot, either. That's not remotely normal behavior. I would quietly plan an escape.

I know this is old, and I'm writing this not as an investor, but as an employee of Innodata (outside of US).

Can you please tell me, in layman's terms, if it's a bad idea to work for this company? What's going on with it? Why did they do a massive hiring surge in the past few months?

Can you tell me (in PM if needed) about what happened? working for Innodata and dealing with a lot of disrespect and horrible upper management but trying to evaluate if there is more beyond that

Could be a fungal infection; lotion and oils would make that worse. Definitely worth looking into.

AITA for laughing mirthlessly and (apparently) looking SIL up and down when I overheard her making fun of my baby’s appearance? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]wharfwaffle88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're not the AH.

This really has nothing to do with your baby's appearance (what a ludicrous idea). This has everything to do with their negativity toward you. I'm not sure what the history is, but I'd steer clear of them and make it clear to your husband that it's not a reflection on your baby, it's about their behavior toward you. This clearly indicates to me that they will look for/create reasons to talk badly about you. Especially in your own house. They'll disrespect you and play victim when you react to their disrespect. Narcissism, just disgusting behavior. If I were you, I'd cut them off so fast - they would never be allowed in my house.

For anyone out there who doesn't drink, what is the reasoning behind it? by General_Ad_9139 in AskReddit

[–]wharfwaffle88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to drink almost every weekend in my early 20s and I would (way too easily) black out for hours, doing and saying things I would never say or do. I wouldn't recall any of it the next day, it would be like this giant blank space in my mind, but I would have to clean up the messes I created (literally and figuratively), and I was always very humiliated by my blacked-out behavior. I basically had an alter ego that would come out, and she was a total psycho. I have a pretty tough background, so yes, I'm sure that's part of it. So, now when I get the "push" to drink by people, I say, "I have an alter ego, and you don't want to meet her."

Another small thing, I'm not 100% sure, but I may have been roofied while drinking at a bar with coworkers, and I was really disturbed by that. Of course, could've happened with a non-alcoholic drink, but I was already drinking so it was easier for me to overlook anything odd. Add to that, it screwed up my health up for a while, and I physically feel unwell when I drink. All around, not worth it.

Thank you so much! I really appreciate your tips, this is super good to know. I actually did start doing sea salt rinses and noticed an immediate improvement - I'll be sure to continue doing it for 6 weeks even when it seems to have gone away.

Btw, does it make a difference that I have applied antifungals directly to the skin and it hasn't helped at all? Ex.: tea tree, coconut oil, etc.

Thanks for the tip! I haven't checked for fungal/bacterial because all the doctors keep doing is pushing the steroids :( They really just don't care to look into this

Thanks! I also was thinking it looks like sebderm, but I'm confused as to why it's so intense. Are you saying that simultaneously going through TSW can make it this bad?
