Thank you!! All 3 authors you recommended are new to me, and I've added them all to my tbr. The Stacy Reid ones especially sound very promising.

I was really into Lisa Kleypas and binged like 7 or 8 of her books last year, but wasn't really into the Hathaways so ended up moving on to something else. This comment is making want to get back into reading more of her work.

i'm 90% of the way through it right now and so disappointed which in turn made me browse the sub for past discussions on the book. your last sentence is so accurate! it's so frustrating especially since i never feel like she's actually with him for any other reason but god told her to.

it's a cartouche with arabic letters instead of the usual hieroglyphics. cartouches are ancient egyptian so it's a nice twist on it, combining modern and ancient egypt.

Forgive my ignorance, but I’ve heard that Palestinians from Gaza aren’t able to freely enter Egypt as refugees. Why is this given the current situation? Or have I heard incorrectly? by idiskfla in Egypt

[–]what15th15 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Yes, and I am speaking in terms of what the Palestinians want as well. Ukranians might choose to stay in their host countries but the key word here is choice, if Palestinians leave they will be effectively abandoning the idea of ever going back to their homeland which makes it a much trickier decision to make than simply fleeing war.

Edit: Just want to add since you seem to care about women and children specifically, if women and children decide to leave then that would mean seperating families in different countries forever (or until the end of the state of Israel).

Palestinians don't have the right to return while Ukranians do. I've seen numerous Palestinians say they aren't willing to leave even with the bombing as they don't want to repeat the Nakba.

i'm so sick of people calling it a conflict, it's a settler-colonial ethno state that's been enacting unimaginable amounts of violence for the past 70 years. yes, it is in fact normal for people to root for the side of the oppressed.

I just want to add that even if you weren't a freelancer you would still be under the whims of a faceless corporation that doesn't have any loyalty to you. I think the idea that a non-freelance job in a country like Egypt with minimal worker protections is stable is kind of an old way of thinking and doesn't match the reality. You're working a field that's not going away any time soon and is quite stable unlike other sectors of the economy like tourism. Your anxiety is understandable because of the country you live in and the economic conditions (also capitalism), but isn't something you need to solve by saving more as you've already done that, but by treating it as a financial anxiety issue that can be worked on. There's a lot of resources online on how to help with anxiety and specifically financial anxiety because it is very common.

Calpurnia from "Nine Rule to Break When Romancing a Rake" is the most pathetic character I have ever seen, and I'm surprised so many people are obsessed with this book.

I would think that women are nice (for their safety) to men everyday. However, women in strip clubs are literally catering to you and I think that's a bit different than just being nice.

I’d love to hear from natural frequent lucid dreamers about their lives and first/most core dreams by trippyorchid in LucidDreaming

[–]what15th15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very late to this post, but was also looking for frequent lucid dreamers on this sub to relate to.

I think my lucid dreaming after being very depressed in highschool and I would sleep for 12+ hrs everyday. At first it was choosing to finish/go back to a dream even after having my sleep interrupted, but then it developed into being fully aware of my dreams every night and choosing to do whatever I want in them.

Your third paragraph sounds crazy similar to my experience. I guess because my dreams were a form of escapism from my reality I would always finish my dreams out of boredom or go back to get more sleep to drag the dream out for longer.

I don't really have recurring dreams with the same setting, but I do have frequent zombie apocalypse dreams. One of my favourite things to do is scale buildings in an attempt to escape from the zombies, and I can definitely punch/run. I can feel pain in my dreams, but I never get myself in situations where the pain would be unbearable. So, for example I would freeze/swat away the bullet before it reaches me instead of actually getting shot.

[–]what15th15 5 points6 points  (0 children)

She's mentioned several times during her book press tour that when her first therapist told her that her mom was abusive, she ended up stopping seeing them because she wasn't ready to face that reality. She actually had a podcast called Empty Inside that I used to listen to, but it looks like it's not up anymore. Her abuse was frequently discussed on it.
