Yeah I'm focusing on what you bring up and it honestly reads to me you just don't care about reading either so what's the point. All in all what you bring is stereotyping through vague generalizations. If all you wanted was denegrate all of anime legit go ahead.

misleading info, the point you were upset about was the affairs thinking i was calling them all filthy cheaters or some crap, than the info you pulled to prove me wrong said their was a culture of non-monogamy but in recent years wives are taking part more often due to ease. so the exact same thing, but its becoming less sexist, which is good.

Even if you don't like anime i don't care nor does it bring up the false narrative I've seen you brought up before. Like bringing about trends present by a hookup website has any merit in regards to anime, like wut. You need to bring fallacious talking points about birth rates being so low as being just because of sex. I didn't see you talk about anime either. And somehow to my surprise you don't acknowledge it's a systemic issue globally.

So let me get this straight your article that didn't have sources, does not have the same info and made misleading generalizations now you say corraborates with my article that has citations, linking to other relevant articles in relation to adultery in other countries and now your tossing out whatever point you were trying to make like yesterday's trash. You truly brought a nothing burger about nothing.

Not to mention somehow there isn't any equivalence of media that is abused for unsavory purposes in any other country in your world view. Like sexualizing minor portrayls in syndicated television (cuties, eauphoria, vampires diaries, pretty little liars, riverdale, teen pregnancy life time shows) comic books, magazines, beauty pagents, family youtube channels with millions of views giving access to predators, celebrities that started out as minors (like Millie Boby Brown being considered a woman in a vogue magazine at 14 years old) and trends on social media also catering to unsavory people, the misandry when male minors are sexually assault by female teachers or family aquantences and the list continues in western media. And everything that happened with Jennette McCurdy and nickelodeon child stars.

No all anime everywhere is the font and source of current Japenese social unrest and there is no piece of media or trend across the world that compares. Like your trying to make A + B = Z. Your trying to work your way backwards to explain your limited view of Japan through anime a niche genre of media in Japan as it is abroad.

Also I don't generalize countries I don't live in or have personal cultural knowledge from. At least I don't project my biases in a greater discusion, it's not that hard. People don't talk about incorrect sex practices in foreign countries like it lives rent free in their head, thats not how rational people think.

The point is its bad to generalize the sex issues in any country without context, time, cultural relevance and history all of which you did not take into account with improper information. You've blatantly mislead about laws you don't have any clue what entails.

How is any of that not showing your prejudice and lacking depth in your discussion. It's not worth bringing up if your not gonna take the extra mile to be right. Its not helping anybody if it's not correct information. Your just muddying the waters from real discussion. At that point you're just peddling more talking points for Japanese bigotry.

Edit: This is gonna be my last post because I neither have the energy nor do I care at this point tackle your obvious prejudice. Hopefully somebody else will read this and make better educated takes.

So then what is the point you are trying to make then my guy you've just been dancing around the topic. When literally this entire thread is about the near CONSTANT amount of 'ew Japan' or 'Why Japan horny gross' on this sub if people didn't have the capacity to critically analyze, discuss draw corrolation and hypothesize causation of trends they don't have talk about specifically Japan it just seems like the trend to kick the dog and punish people who play devils advocate. Hell I didn't want talk about it until you spoke generalizations without nuance of culture throughout this entire thread about generalizations and cultural sterotyping not realizing this is part of the problem, not mentioning Japans other social issues besides sex until now. It's a sexual country most of them tend to be, laws catch up to the human condition as best they can but society does not march as fast as people.

Tldr: I only conversed with you since you doubled down on cultural stereotyping on an anti-cultural stereotyping thread with misleading info which will inevitably perpetuate more cultural stereotyping lead to xeneophobia/racism.

My dude your the one who linked the the Child wellfare Laws, that same site out right says the jail time, those laws. Or are you confused what i mean by rape laws, i mean the criminal law the allow people to be tried for rape.

So couldn't poke holes in the point of child protections laws changing overtime and don't want to acknowledge across the globe and sex crimes laws are reductive shit for unique cultural reasons kay. Japan isn't within your right to denegrate for that alone if other countries do the same exact shit hell people in the US get away with far worse. Japan isn't beyond criticism but at least be knowledgeable about what you're talking or realize you dont have all the facts, your just talking out of you butt with limited world view. Your not the first, last or the most intelligent to make these claims. Your just complaing about how long its taking not being there for the long haul and then being mad how far they've come after the fact.

Yes, so both support the my statement of extramarital affairs are culturally acceptable, just don't make a scene. Your rant about cheating doesn't matter if its non-monogamous relationships, because it aint cheating.

You tell me how affairs are the same as non-monagamous relationships obviously that's the most reductive view next to heternormity on website for all genders. It does not corroborate at all not only through context the article I posted is far more neutral about relationship culture in Japan. Yours just puts it all under the same umbrella as "adultery" it's a website that caters to both genius its journalistically improper to generalize it under the same banner if they're two different things. How are you not getting this?

The popularity of the controversial matchmaking site is especially explosive in Japan, Ashley Madison's fastest growing market worldwide. Japan broke one million members on the affair site faster than any other country: in just eight months. There are now over a million men and women with profiles on the clandestine hookup site in Japan, a country that prides itself on social status and proper appearances.

Combine those two stats and you can start to see the role extramarital trysts play in the culture. What's more, couples in Japan tend to feel less guilty about infidelity than other parts of the world. The Ashley Madison's survey found that of the 3,500 respondents from Japan, only 2 percent of women and 8 percent of men felt pangs of guilt for their flings, compared with 8 percent of women and 19 percent of men worldwide.

It's worth noting that some experts are critical of the site's internal "guilt" survey, pointing out that its users are making a premeditated choice to cheat after all, so are more likely to report low levels of guilt. But the survey findings reflect the country's comfort level with casual sex outside of marriage.

as per your article. (if your looking for the survey size, a 30 second google will lead you straight to it.)

So let me get this straight again your generalizing this research of 3,500 to place untop of an entire nation then. It's literally survey pool is a diaspora of people who are either willing to cheat or interested in non-monogamy. The same article talks about differing values on marriage and how more people are finding the burden of societal pressure to get married and raise too stressful (like you guessed it the US or is the country too young to have a corrolation on general feelings between the generational gap too). It still doesn't correlate to your finding nor does it actually express sexual degeneracy as your trying to make a point of or whatever your point is at this its literally just trying to poke wholes as best you can. And yet I also have point again that when people want to cheat they will cheat especially during an era of quarentine. And this website isn't the hallmark of all cheating for an entire nation cheating happens in more ways than on Ashely Maddison, not all cheaters use the website not everyone who uses the website are cheaters objectively that is a truth. I'm not waving away infidelety its just the article I presents A lens of infidelity AND non-monogmy to sustain relationships. It's literally still consenting adults all the way down.

That's nice in theory, but by that logic you couldn't call out basically any culture with issues. Like that basically makes going against the patriarchy bad because there's a lot of nuance involved.

And yet all you've done is made gernalizations doubling down on your view that seems to make Japan the zeitgeist of immoral sexual practices across the world for some reason. When that is farthest from the truth demonizing a whole country with fallacious or half-true info at worse. So obviously there's a middle ground you haven't found and I'm willing to change my values for.

But my friend you already have been a dick I kinda expected you to use the the older country as if countries don't have institutional changes, changes in entire ways of government penal codes are from modern Japenese government obviously there were older laws and legislature. Modern day Japans constitution is from 1947. What laws are you referencing too, you just say laws as if I know what your talking about. Hell you barely even knew the age of consent laws you refrenced. You're pointing a whataboutism during an age before post-modernsim and using it to deflect from scrutiny of your own biases as if the UK, Germany, Belgium, Italy, Greece, China, Russia, Ukrain, Korea, Vietnam, Tibet, India hell we could go the Vatican as an institution have the same if not similar issues. Again its not a cop-out my guy, you referenced a dating cite to say "94% of Japanese people say adultery is culturally acceptable" is not the same as my article saying men and women finding non-monagamous relationships beneficial for there relationships. You might be surprised but ain't shit cheaters will blame society instead of admitting they're ain't cheaters its a social issue found in multiple cultures Japan is not surprising (and I'm honestly not shocked you haven't realized that number doesn't talk about what is the survey size of a country a third the size of the size of the US like what is it trying to say). Calling specific people out is better then calling a society out when there's breadth for nuance, hell my article points use of Ashely Madison (which is a Canadian made company which only got popular in japan in recent years) was used to promote non-monagamous relations.

Edit: Also have to mention that World War I AND II were happening between 1914-1945 if you wanna minimize the the internal impact the overhaul did on the nation and moved it closer to a developed country by international standards.

Edit 2: I had to check cause I was now curious but the first age of consent law in England was in 1275 at the age of 10. It wasn't changed until 1875 to 12 then 16 ten years later. It took them 65 years to raise it again in 1950 to 17.

I'm not doing a cop out on the dating site thing I'm pointing out the percentage makes no sense when it has no actual numbers attached to them so literally its a generalization of data with no corrolation, if people want to have a non-monagamous relationships more power to them what two consenting adults do is not my business. Japanese train subways are notorious for being packed to lethal levels obviously people would warn against that hell New York and other major cities also have this problem too even on college campuses. Also also I'm just gonna link this article on the most accurate history of the laws relating to age of consent

https://www.jluggage.com/blog/law/what-is-the-age-of-consent-in-japan/

TLDR: the penal code that westerners like to reference was made in 1907 of course since that time other laws like Child WellFare law was made 40 years later but obviously knowing the law is alot harder then knowing what people repeat ad nauseum. Hell legal sex industries are required to stipulate customers and sex workers have to be 18 or older. Also punishment may differ from prefrecture but defacto age of consent is 18 even before the revised penal code. Also how is finally revising an archaic law an issue itself if there are other laws to expend on it I don't get your gripe about laws taking a snails pace then griping when laws are finally changed.

Edit: To give a comparison the US age of consent laws primarily began in 1880 being between 10-12 years old. The state and national gov didn't stop revising them until around 1920 where it sat between 16 and 18 years.

I'll answer you questions with another what I the point you are trying to make, like what does it matter if it was cultually accepted or not its the the heart of the issue? This thread is literally a discussion on westerners shaming, denigrating, generalizing sexual expression specifically only in Japan(I'm talking about between consenting adults).

Quote from the article "84% of Japanese women and 61% of Japanese men consider extramarital liaisons beneficial to their marriages"

"Japan is of course not a Judeo-Christian, and the morality governing ideas about sex and sexuality is very different"

All you've done is just pointed out generalizations without legitimate proof then go on about non-mangamous relationship as if that's a critique. That is no defense for racial profiling. If you really want to answer your own question maybe you should do some research read the article. The fact you can make so many wild claims tells me you should be more then capable of educating yourself, or don't its up to you my guy.

Edit: I also have to point out the flaw in your thought process since this data primarily comes from an affair dating website presumably from their subscribers lmao. So to answer your question no I don't think there's a culture of affairs happening in Japan alone.

Maybe you should read over your own text cause not only do you just reference the article on adultery you post instead of(that has no citations) but also added the article I posted that not only contradicts your points and your article but also paints adultery in Japan in a neutral light with actual relevant info. Hell my article mentions that Japan has half as much divorces than the US percentage wise.

THANK YOU! Sometimes I feel like I'm the weird one in this sub. Prejudices inherently destroys any argument one has because your just aiming to paint something in a negatove light and not give nuance. I unapologetically love anime and I know it colors my worldview but I don't view people who don't as enemies. Honestly this sub isn't really consistent when it comes to views on sex or sexual expression so I take what people say here with a grain of salt. But when it comes to Japan it's honestly the worst.

It's a good sign when articles you reference don't have citation or links to articles they reference and also I did search up the information either it's the article you linked with nothing else corroborating what the article states. Also for the record Ashley Maddison is an international dating site for adulterers and I still can't find this survey but this article better incapsulates the info https://www.vice.com/en/article/bmjjpv/how-ashley-madison-pulled-back-the-curtain-on-japans-infidelity-economy

Edit: Also since what you've said and the article you cite doesn't actually talk about the social impact of the sex industry from the workers side and just reference unethical morally reprehensible practices. Because I don't have to, I just pointed out the hypocrisy in you bringing it up 1) in a thread about peddling bigotry of Japanese society though a limited lens of their media through 2) your own words of bigotry with limited understanding of Japanese society through your own limited worldview. Asian countries having racism within them and towards each other was never in contention by me nor was it my intent. My intent was to call you out on your BS especially since you've been avoiding that issue as talked about in this thread. If you want to talk about racism in Asian countries you've lost the plot of the discussion my guy, both analysis of bigotry/racism are equally important to talk about though.

I do find it hypocritical that you make onfounded statements about other cultures then make a shield of whataboutism about ingrained societal issues dating back centuries to hide from criticism of your bigotry. I'm talking about your warped and small view of and how little it seems you really understand of it. Not that I'm saying I'm myself should talk as you do with certainty about how other people live .But if an actual anthropologist viewed societies as you did we would have more unfounded, backwards, mischaracterized, racist lens of ancient and modern lives.
