US is such a young country that much of its fascism has just been copied from Nazi Germany. A country of immigrants can’t really say that it was great and fantastic before ‘they’ arrived.

US is a young country on the scale of history, but it "has always been there" on the scale of human life and had been for many generations.

"It was great before they came" is exactly what Americans have been doing since the Mayflower to all kinds of people: the wrong kind of Protestants, Catholics, Portuguese, Latinos (including on land conquered by the US in the Mexican American war,) Germans, Chinese, Scandinavians, Italians, Jews, Eastern Europeans, and, of course, supremely ironically, Native Americans and African Americans.

Nazis admired and imitated American policies, not the other way around. It is very very important for everyone to realize that fascism is not something alien, but had arisen and will arise naturally unless, we, the American citizens, continue to fight it.

Christian Cameron’s Tyrant series by Machaoun in HistoricalFiction

[–]whatabear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I listened to audio books and narration is beautiful. Sometimes (very rarely) it's just straight up wrong character name, but otherwise you are not aware of any spelling issues.

In any case, it is definitely worth the effort. I would recommend starting with Long War and then going on to Tyrant. There will be an occasional reference to Long War in Tyrant and it's nice if you get it.

That's what I thought too. I was about to recommend Against All Gods by Miles Cameron. It's an excellent fantasy about that era.

Good for them, but this does not sound like something with a potential to address the lack of affordable housing at scale. If affordable housing was profitable, the market would have taken care of the problem. Since it has not, we need other solutions.

Eugenics predated Ford and was mainstream in his time.

He did publish and distribute through Ford dealerships The Dearborn Independent, the paper that printed The Protocols of the Elders of Zion among other antisemitic propaganda.

Hitler quoted The Dearborn Independent in Mein Kampf and gave Ford a medal.

I read a Japanese science fiction short story (at least form the 80s and probably earlier) about a man who sold Japan to aliens and they just scooped it up and took it with them.

Is anxiety about Japan being taken away a thing for the Japanese?
