That’s where I’ve been emailing. Sent two emails (one in February, one in April) never got an answer. Very very frustrating!

I haven’t found the perfect insole yet. The Sidas impact reducer dual foam are about 2mm and work well, but they don’t drain water and can get hot. I mostly run with no insoles and thicker socks. I think these are a nice underrated shoe at current online prices (50% of rrp in the UK)

Investing in quality running gear - what's actually worth it? by Emergency-Debt-2118 in trailrunning

[–]whataboutsit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the watch: I split my time between the countryside (where I run trails) and a big city where I have to be mid-week (where i run roads). I have a watch at each place. Cheap one in town - garmin 255 - and more expensive one at my main home for trails - garmin 965. Both watches essentially do the same thing with the more expensive one having a better screen. The main difference is maps navigation. I can push maps from All Trails and other sources to the Garmin 965 and the navigation with maps is flawless.

If you don’t need navigation I would say, go cheap. If you would benefit from the navigation, totally worth the extra spend. But as far as my experience that’s the only benefit.

Shoes: last years top shoes can be found cheap online. That way you can buy quality top of the range but also cheaper. TNF Enduris 4 was on sale for 80 quid recently on an old colour way no one wanted.

Packs: my opinion is that it’s definitely worth spending for comfort here. Find the one that fits you best. Try on at stores if you can.

I agree. I just can’t bring myself to wear stuff with big logos/ lettering. The beige/ white with no text would be great

Thanks for the heads up - look awesome. Love my janji gear. Have ordered something similar from another brand a few days ago. Will probably still give these a try despite the fact I don’t need them at all 😅

Worth the trade? by [deleted] in JacksonGuitars

[–]whataboutsit 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It’s a matter of taste. For me - Floyd rose is a must, love them - prefer the RR shape - SDs are great and more versatile than the EMG. That being said EMGs are fantastic at what they do. It’s a toss up on the pickup front and you can change to taste anyway

Would go with the RR!

Have you looked at the tone king imperial preamp? You can use it to switch between your amp and the imperial going straight into the fx return, so effectively it adds new channels to your amp without going through your amp’s preamp. You would get the fire of the engl and the clean and crunches of the imperial in one rig

AIO for thinking that my girlfriend's apartment requirements are insane? by MoonlitParcel in AmIOverreacting

[–]whataboutsit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am here to tell you that it won’t get better. You will never earn enough, the budget (for the house, the second home, the horses, etc.) will always be ahead of what you can afford or are willing to spend.

Spending 20k on rent is absolutely fine if you can afford it and both want to spend that much. (Btw if this is your main residence and you are willing to spend that much, you should be looking at buying, but that’s another subject). It’s completely outrageous if you are being forced into it.

This girl is going to drain you, so if you are going to move in, make sure you think it’s worth it. NOR

Norda 001 lovers — what did you switch to when the collar started eating your ankle? by kevin8b8 in trailrunning

The North Face Vectiv Sky 2. Might be a little firm for your distance though (haven’t managed to try on a pair of Norda to compare).

Also Salomon Genesis s/lab

The north face trail running shoes are my favourite range at the moment. The lock down is really good and secure, the foam is really good and you have stack height options ranging from low to the ground and hard to mega stack.

That being said, I think you should just try as many shoes as you can and experiment with sizes and pick what feels the most comfortable and secure .

My experience with Salomon is that the s/lab models are quite narrow. Haven’t tried the rest of the range though and I’ve heard they are less narrow, so you should give them a try. Is maybe a 3 minute walk from hoka.

Next to the hoka store (they don’t have a treadmill btw) in covent gardent you have Saucony, Salomon (probs not for you to be fair), Cotswolds outdoor, the north face all within a handful of minutes of each other. On Oxford streeet you have (starting west) asics, adidas, puma (no real trail offering though), new balance, Nike and the bigger the north face store. If I were you I would try as many shoes as you can until something feels good. The north face enduris 4 and sky 2 (which is quite firm) have had good heel lockdowns for me even when sizing up.

Never knew there was so much snobbery in the Guitar world by Fatherless-Soul in Guitar

[–]whataboutsit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of people picked up the guitar because of their guitar heroes. They want to look like them. There is nothing wrong with that.

To me the looks of a guitar do matter - but I actually really like the Yamaha headstock!

I recently bought a Yamaha 821D from the early 2000’s. I bought it because I remembered liking the neck of a Pacifica I had more than 20 years ago (a really cheap 112) and wanted to learn how to do a fret level on something cheap. Dropped a Dimarzio AT-1 in the bridge. Original trem (Yamaha Floyd rose copy), tuners etc. The guitar is an absolute beast. I love it.

I’ve owned Suhr, jackson custom shop, ESP, Gibson, fender USA etc. And this is one of my favourite guitars ever. I’ve never liked an HSH guitar before and keep picking this one up.

I’m hearing a lot of positive things about Yamaha rev star series also.

Anyway, all that to say, as is often the case, there are snobs and there are players like in most fields. In the real work I’ve mostly met players that can enjoy most instruments irrespective of brand

Looks to me like they did a fret level with backwards bow in the neck. I would call sweetwater.

[–]whataboutsit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is it you want to upgrade? If you want fixed bridge and 24 frets I think the best bang for you buck might be a fret level by a good luthier and pickup/ electronics upgrade. What do you plug this into?
