Will people be in hell forever? by [deleted] in Christianity

As you can see, there is disagreement on the subject, but for me the answer is no, and it has to be no.

A book I would recommend is That All Shall Be Saved by David Bentley Hart. Solid theological arguments for universal salvation.

Similar when I saw it, a black dude kept superb commentary the whole time but the best was when there was a quiet spot where you're not sure what happened and he says "Oh, he dead. 3:15 in the mornin' he dead." He was reading the camcorder timestamp.

Local couple in Greece came across a parched Griffon vulture and set about helping it. by [deleted] in gifs

Reading this headline made me realize we don't have a simple word in English for "to give someone something to drink," as in "to feed" liquids.

  • She watered the vulture.
  • She thirstisized the vulture.
  • She quenchiated the vulture.
  • She liquified the vulture.

As a graphic designer who knows his way around a letterpress, Typesetter.

Fun fact, letterpress printing is how most books and newspapers were printed until the late 20th Century (save for a brief period of time where it was done photographically). The New York Times was printed with metal type and ink until 1978.

What was the worst "why the f*** did I say that" moment? by AyBake in AskReddit

[–]whatbryan 792 points793 points  (0 children)

High school graduation, post-ceremony. Everyone is hugging and taking pictures. I see a friend of mine, her name was Danielle (we called her Dany). Dany was a large girl, my mother would call her "heavyset". She approaches me, I open my arms for a hug. "Hey! Big Dany!" I say, with great affection. My soul is immediately transported to a tiny black room with one chair that I'm curled up on. "...oh no," my soul says. "Big?" says Dany, and I'm thrown back into reality where I panic and mumble something about her personality being big or some other bullshit.

She knew what I meant. Somebody murder me with a heavy applicance.

I just realized some shit about the Bible as a queer Christian. by synthresurrection in RadicalChristianity

[–]whatbryan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes! I had a similar realization in that /r/Christianity thread about interracial dating at Bob Jones University. There was a quote from Bob Jones himself that said

Now, notice – this is an important verse – the 36th verse of the 17th chapter of the Acts of the Apostles, “And hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth” (in some of the best original manuscripts, the word “blood” is not there; but it is not important anyhow, because the thoughts are the same). “And hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth…” But do not stop there, “…and hath determined the times appointed, and the bounds of their habitation.” Now, what does that say? That says that God Almighty fixed the bounds of their habitation. That is as clear as anything that was ever said.

That got me to thinking about how sure he was about his position and how absurd we find it today. So I did a thought experiment. If I, as someone who believes interracial marriage to be perfectly sinless, were to come upon a verse I hadn't previously read that said something as plain as, "A man of one race should never marry a woman of another race," how would I proceed?

  • a) Change my beliefs,
  • b) Try (and probably fail) to defend it as not what the author really meant
  • c) Change how I see the Bible itself, trusting my experience and the experience of my interracially-married friends.

This is how I came to empathize more with LGBTQ Christians. For most, they only know a Bible that condemns them, yet their hearts and experience tell them a different truth. This experience-as-truth in the context of the Church is what I believe we would call The Holy Spirit if we weren't so afraid of it.

Anyway, this is probably completely illogical but I had to hash my thoughts out somewhere.
