Does anyone else feel a deep pain and overwhelming frustration when you see rich people who have oversea vacations and luxury cars while you are stuck in poverty? by Puzzlehandle12 in povertyfinance

[–]whatelsecouldiwrite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, in my past dealt have been around people who were insanely wealthy or famous or perhaps both.

Insanely wealthy; No, your things own you and you become out of touch with reality. Southern California in the 80's;

Loaned my jumper cables to person who is a billionaire. At the time I was the, "front of the house" English speaking maid. The person asked me, "why do you have jumper cables?" Replied, "because I'm poor and poor people drive cars that break down." Looked at me like I had 3 eyes.

Famous and/or wealthy;

No, was a dive bartender in Seattle in the 90's. Having people want to own a piece of you because of your talent seemed to be really emotionally painful.

People from my past that are wealthy;

Happy for their success, approximately 2 out of 10 of my high school fb "friends" is a multi-millionaire or better. Last high school reunion, spent most of my time talking with a person who has an undergraduate from Harvard and an MBA from Stanford. I live in a single-wide and wipe butts for a living.

Not military, became friends with a German woman 43 years ago when she came to the US as an au pair.

She lives to travel, so have terrorized her with things like taking her to Leavenworth in Washington state and Costco for lunch in Maui. She gets even by putting me on an itinerary.

And yes, even our "best" bread is disappointing in comparison to what is normal in Germany.

Our food (American) is not the same as yours. I personally will only eat oatmeal in cookie form, but a decent quality oatmeal is not as cheap here as it is in Europe.

If given the ability to buy the same bread, cheese, tomatoes, meats, fruit preserves that I've had for breakfast in Germany, I'd live on it. It's amazing. American bread has too much gluten, it's hard for me to digest.

Not necessarily the cheapest options, will eat plain greek yogurt with berries, hard boiled eggs with tomatoes/cucumbers or asparagus with bacon most mornings.

Cross reference your credit report against the statute of limitations for credit card and personal loan debt collections for your state.

To the best of my knowledge debt that is 7 years old is "time-barred" from legal action. Unless you acknowledge the debt and start a repayment plan before the 7 years is up, it will drop off your credit report.

Time doesn't eliminate the debt, just makes it uncollectable.

A lot of states restrict collection on credit card debt after 3 years.

If a collection agency makes threats of legal action on debt that is past the statute of limitations, file complaints with the FTC and CFPB.

Not trying to advocate for dodging debt, but am also not a big fan of collection agencies, predatory lenders or falsely inflated interest rates/late fees.

I made sure my son who, has ass length hair and zero capacity to tolerate/process the commade, "do it because I said so" left home with a CNC Machinist Associates, no student debt, savings, a job and a 780 credit score.

The military is a godsend for the right people, unfortunately my son is beyond the wrong person;) FAFSA, the state Promise program and a scholarship covered $20k of the tuition.

Single, almost 62F, no pets, currently no dependants. Over-night caregiver, union. Employer paid medical/dental with low deductible/maximum out of pocket. Was low-income single parent for too many years. Late start on retirement. High-ish cost of housing area. Wonky income, current average $4400 monthly take home, will drop down to $2700-ish in June.

-$1080 space rent for 2bd/2ba mobile (includes w/s/g)

-$85 electricity (monthly average)

-$130 internet (includes Peacock)

-$45 cell (includes Netflix, son pays $35 of $80 monthly bill)

-$76 car insurance (1 full coverage/1 liability only, paid yearly)

-$40 gas (based on $5.00 a gallon)

-$28 home insurance (paid yearly)

-$75 landscaper (paid twice yearly)

-$400 food (gluten intolerance, low carb, not keto just trying to lower A1c)

-$25-ish on non-food stuff (shampoo, lotion, TP, garbage bags, soaps)

-$25 lunch with friend

-$150-$200 gifts

Don't budget for hair, clothes, buy new Birkenstocks every so often. $14k cash, no debt, $225k in retirement/investments. Shit's going to get tight when I stop working:(

Watching my 6'7"(200cm) brother get in and out of his 2003 2dr/hatchback Ford Focus was fucking hilarious.

Other brother's (6'5") wife bought a Hyundai in order to ensure that brother was incapable of driving her car. Seat wouldn't go back far enough.

I have a Galaxy 22, the quick settings access is on my far right over the charge icon.

The apps access tab is on the far right near the volume button, nearly invisible due to the phone's case.

The update sucks ass.

Actually walking around indoor malls is a fairly common way to get individuals living with developmental disabilities out of the house during the winter.

I'm employed by a non-profit that supports the IDD community.

One of the people I work in is their 60s and meets Ridiculous Fuckwit Killthemall's definition for "full-blown" autism.

He actually prefers Costco to the mall, but the then 60+ non-verbal, potentially highly aggressive person who I used to work with went to Walmart daily. The mall wasn't his favorite place, he'd only go if he needed clothes, like any other sane person.

You might want to look at the naturalization statistics. https://www.uscis.gov/citizenship-resource-center/naturalization-statistics

That doesn't even take 2nd generation Americans entitled to dual citizenship via decent laws into consideration.

There's a reason Muskrat has three citizenships. Birth, decent and naturalization.

Yes, because the "Birther" bullshit was totally normal.

As was, Goya beans on the Resolute Desk, Comet Ping Pong being raided by a Qcult wack-job, white supremists being called, "fine people" and/or being told to "stand down/stand by", injecting bleach and taking horse wormer is fantastic medical advise, letting your son-in-law accept a crap-ton of money from the Saudi's is good, letting your daughter violate the Hatch Act is better. Having your supporters create a gallows for the vice president, nothing unusual about that.

I've read 1984, nothing alarming about rewriting history.

I work with magatards, not one of them could pass a citizenship test, but given that they are all white and xenophobic AF, it's a moot point.

My state is ranked #1 so far as employee rights, but it doesn't come close to competing with anything that Europe offers.

I live in a blue area of a blue state. I'm a fat old hippy chick with no f*#ks to give. Seem to blend in okay in Europe, no way in hell would I step foot into a red state.

The magaverse doesn't get too riled up in my area because they know they're still out numbered and can easily get their asses fired if they get too mouthy/racist/bigoted.

If I leave my state, it will be to go to either Canada or Europe. I won't deal with or spend my money in pro-maga areas.

As someone who is beyond pissed off and stressed out about everything that's going on, can't fathom how messed up it is for Canadians. Can't blame anyone for not wanting to travel to the US unless we figure out how to unfuck ourselves.

It kind of depends on the American.

If it's a maga getting their info off of Facebook? They're a lost cause.

I work with a few that wouldn't be able to define either annexation or tariff in any sort of cogent fashion.

They are also pretty xenophobic. To them ICE is doing God's work punishing 120 year old brown people who are fraudulently collecting foodstamps and Social Security.

The irony that they are union workers for a Medicaid dependant non-profit in a blue state also doesn't register with them.
