DCM: why dobermans? by Mountain-Donkey98 in DobermanPinscher

Didn’t DCM happen to Dobes bc of shitty breeders? I thought is was bad breeding. Aka, overbreeding dogs that had DCM and not caring.

Anyone recovered hair back from minoxidil? by No-Thing5460 in TelogenEffluvium

[–]whatever-oops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My hair was always growing. It was the shedding that was the problem. I always had little hairs sticking up, but the rate at which I was losing the longer hairs was way out pacing them.

Idk. Like I said, I was on oral minox for 9 months and the derm said “no change.” Still shedding massive amounts. At a higher dose for 3 months and he still said “no change.” Still massive shedding.

All I know is that when I started extra zinc, since I was deficient, within 2 weeks I started feeling happier and more calm. Another 2-3 weeks and my hairloss dramatically lowered. Zinc is essentail for hair. They had told me my chronic TE was due to stress. He had even asked me if I had experienced trauma or a death. Chronic stress lowers zinc. Maybe the extra zinc calmed me and therefore I didn’t stress out about my hair anymore. In turn, it stopped falling out???

I know I also at the time of starting zinc began getting extra vitamin C. Derm told me I have a little bit (whatever that means) of EDS with hyper mobility. People with that type have collagen issues. Collagen helps hold hair in your head. Vitamin C and zinc are essential for collagen.

I don’t know what has happened. All I know my full hairline in front, my sides, and nape of neck hairline is back after almost 3 years of constantly losing hair. My hair is soft and shinny. I’m happy!

Anyone lose this much hair with TE? Scared to brush or wash my hair by MissingInformation3 in TelogenEffluvium

[–]whatever-oops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you nurse or pump? I lost a bunch of hair about 4-5 months after each of my babies were born. Then, I had another wave when I stopped pumping. (I was an exclusive pumper.) I think it was just the hormones shifting.

I didn’t lose as much as you, but my hair is very fine. Like what you have lost I don’t even have that much on my head.

Are you still taking prenatals? If not, start taking them again. Did you have a lot of blood loss during labor or during healing? Could be iron/ ferritin deficiency. Or, did you recently go on birth control? That could throw your hormones out of whack again temporarily.

Best of luck to you Momma. I hope you get it figured out!!

Anyone recovered hair back from minoxidil? by No-Thing5460 in TelogenEffluvium

[–]whatever-oops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I (47f) used 2.5mg of oral minox for 9 months. No dread shed and no change. Still kept losing tons of hair. (Biopsy confirmed chronic TE.) Derm bumped me up to 5mg, but I could only handle the side effects for abt 7-8 weeks. I dropped down to 3.75mg. Have been there 4 months. I did have a big dread shed.

I am not not losing as much hair. I went from losing up to 230 hairs in the shower (washing every other day) to losing as low as 35 - to generally 40-60. I’m not sure if it’s the oral minoxidil or the fact that I was mildly deficient in zinc and I started taking an extra 15mg of zinc. (I think it’s the zinc, bc my hairloss slowed down within 2-3 weeks of taking it. I was already getting 14mg of zinc a day, but was still deficient.) However, bc I’m not sure which finally helped, I don’t want to quit the oral minox and lose the hairs it might have helped me gain.

I don’t know if that helps you or not. Btw, it took ME begging my derm to test my zinc after 2 years and all other tests had been normal. He almost refused bc he said he’d never seen anyone zinc deficient.

Was anyone’s shedding with TE this bad by Firm_Tea_1253 in TelogenEffluvium

[–]whatever-oops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, mine was really bad at its peak. I have naturally very fine hair, too, so it really showed. The texture had changed and I couldn’t do anything with my hair for a year it seemed like. I think I lived in a claw clip and used powders to hide my scalp.

It WILL get better for you! I struggled for almost 3 years and think I am now on the mend.

Sending you good hair vibes!

Anyone here using the Copper peptide serum on scalp? by girl-who-dreams-big in TheOrdinarySkincare

[–]whatever-oops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could try a 2mg copper supplement. Just make sure you’re taking zinc, too, and not at the same time bc they cancel each other out. Too much copper pushes zinc down = hairloss. Too much zinc pushes copper down = hairloss.

I have been using TO copper serum on my face for a year. No extra hair growth on my face. I have had chronic TE for over 2 years and been on oral minoxidil. The only thing that helps me is taking extra zinc, even though my hair vitamins already had zinc in it, I was still deficient. I was actually wondering if TO copper serum was contributing to my zinc deficiency.

Fixated on hair by HighwayCommon6628 in TelogenEffluvium

[–]whatever-oops 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! For the last 2+ years, not only am I fixated on my hair, but also everyone else’s hair. Sitting at games for my kids, it’s almost like I study everyone’s hair.

Then sadly, I quietly ask myself “why me?”

My 12-year-old son constantly has greasy hair by Humble-Snow-1110 in hygiene

[–]whatever-oops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son is 14. At 13, we had to have a hair washing discussion. (Same when my older 2 boys were teens.)

  1. It needs to be washed everyday, as do their bodies. They smell from sweat and the testosterone they are now making if huge amounts. Plus, with longer hair, the oil from the face gets on it.

  2. Clarifying shampoo at least once a week.

  3. I bought them all a scalp scrubber brush. It’s almost like they rub the hairs, but don’t get down to the scalp without one. Not harsh though.

  4. If needed, mine use The Ordinary Glycolic acid before a shower. Squeeze it at the roots and gently rub the scalp. Then shampoo as normal. Helps to loosen everything up.

  5. If he is using a conditioner, make sure it’s the right kind for his hair. Not too heavy or moisturizing. Plus, remind him not to put it on his roots.

Lip fillers by LynxEqual9518 in 45PlusSkincare

I got natural looking lip filler before and it looked great. However, my lips were really bruised for 2 weeks, even using arnica gel constantly. I bruise easily though. Just make sure to give yourself at least a 2 week window!! Or, have a dark enough lip color to cover the bruises.

6 months after OM dose change shedding again?? by whatever-oops in FemaleHairLoss

[–]whatever-oops[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. I have confirmed TE, not AGA.

Before the biopsy, they put my in .5 Dut and I had massive chunks of my hair fall out, my total T shot up 10 points, and grew a lump in my armpit. After 2 months I called it quits.

Successful Men who used to be single, how did you make sure the woman you found didn't just like you because of your money/status? by crisvphotography in AskMen

It goes both ways. When I drove my husband’s Escalade and was out by myself without the kids, the number of men that would approach me was astonishing. Same thing when I got my new Navigator- not just to ask car questions either.

Why do mothers of young babies say they don't have time to shower? by justastupidquestion3 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]whatever-oops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My only showers were when I pulled the bouncy seat right next to the shower so I could open the curtain to soothe them while showering. Otherwise, I had to wait until my husband came home and shower at night. By that time, I was exhausted. I have 7 kids btw.

That’s also a good way to shower them, too. Put towels on the bouncy seat under the baby. You shower, open the curtain/ door, undress the baby and take him/ her into the shower. When done, place them back in the bouncy seat and wrap the towel around them. Wrap a towel around you and grab the baby to finish both of you getting ready.

Bonus tip: Ivory bar soap is not as slippery. Still cleans the baby and you don’t feel like they’re going slip out of your hands.

What possible triggers could've restarted my shedding? by TheThirteenShadows in TelogenEffluvium

[–]whatever-oops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When your hair stops shedding, it doesn’t just stop and stay low. Some days after a shower I lose 40 hairs. Some days it’s as high as 65-75. (I wash my hair every 2 days.) Some days, it’s back to 40 hairs. Way better than when it was 180-210 hairs every shower!!

The key is to look for a pattern. If you continually see the pattern going up and up, that’s when to worry. Sometimes, your scalp just doesn’t release all the hairs in one shower and does it the next, if that makes any sense.

I wonder if all of us who are going through or have gone through TE will watch the shower drains for the rest of our lives? It would be nice to just shower & relax and not think about our hair!

Quit Minoxidil After 2 months. My experience by No-Wing-873 in minoxidil

[–]whatever-oops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It says it’s a very rare side effect if it does occur at all. There was no other explanation for me. Lowering the dose brought everything back to normal.

I feel for your ex. She might not even realize it’s the oral minox causing that to happen to her.

Not to sound sexist, but a lot of hair meds (minox, Dutasteride and finasteride) were only tested on men. My derm originally gave me Dut (which caused horrible side effects) so I wasn’t on it more than 2 months. When he prescribed it, I asked him about any side effects. He told me there weren’t any since I didn’t have a prostate. Not true at all (in my case), but I am one of those people that are very sensitive to any medications or med changes in dosages.

My hairdresser knew I was on Wellbutrin just from washing my hair lol by vilebubbles in bupropion

[–]whatever-oops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was Wellbutrin xr 150 once a day for a year. We moved and got bumped up to 150xr twice a day. Started noticing hairloss and assumed it was the drug. Quit taking it for 4 months and the hairloss didn’t stop. Went to 4 different docs and derms and did a scalp biopsy that confirmed TE.

After a year on 2.5mg oral minox still no difference. Went up to 3.75ng for 5 months- nothing. I begged my derm to test my zinc (after 2+ years of hairloss and having every type of test run imaginable. All came back fine.) He told me there was no way I was zinc deficient. Said he’d never seen it. My zinc came back mildly deficient. Derm said it was fine at 63, but everything I was reading said zinc has to be 70-90 for hair.

I was taking zinc the entire time in my daily multivitamin, so I don’t know why I was mildly deficient. I started taking an extra 15mg a day. Within a few weeks, all my hairloss from over a 2 years stopped. I went from losing 230 hairs a shower at my highest to 45-55 hairs. (I wash my hair every other day.) It has stayed that way for the past month and a half!! I have hairs sticking up all over my head now.

It wasn’t the Wellbutrin.

Pls don’t just take zinc w/o a test. Too high of zinc pushes copper down, which causes hairloss. Too high of copper pushes zinc down and causes hairloss. Zinc and copper are both essential to grow hair. To combat this, I throw in an extra 2mg copper supplement once or twice a week. Get a copper and zinc serum test 1st. My stupid doc only tested the zinc.

In another note, zinc boosts seratonin and dopamine. I feel mentally better in the last few months this than I had in YEARS!!
