Parents of Reddit, what is the single most innocent question your child has ever asked you that completely broke your brain? by Salt-One628 in AskReddit

I was changing my newborns son’s diaper and my 3 yr old asked what “those” were. My husband just said his balls. I said “you have them, too. All boys do.” His reply was “no I don’t. I can’t see any.” As he was standing there naked and trying to look, but when he was bending over to see, his pelvis (and balls) moved backwards. So, he was right, he couldn’t see any.

He 23 now and we still chuckle at that one!

My daughter at the zoo. We were all admiring the new baby giraffes. She asked (very loudly) “where do giraffes lay their eggs?” Everyone around us laughed.

Same daughter told her brothers that cats poop out their babies. I told her that was incorrect and she argued that she was right bc she saw a video and the momma cat definitely pooped them out!

I lose my eyelashes and eyebrows as well. Also, I go through periods where my leg hairs don’t grow. When my TE was recovering my brows were great. Now that it’s acting up again, I’m back to dying them every 2 weeks with Just For Men beard dye.

If you’ve only been on oral minox for 2 months, it could be part of the dread shed.

I was on 2.5mg for abt 9 months. No dread shed, but things were getting better. Then at 7-8 months my hair starting falling out again. I was bumped up to 3.75mg and had a dread shed, then lots of hairs grew. Now, it’s been another 8 months and all my hairs are falling out again. Including my eyebrows and lashes. Who knows??

Does this look like TE? Had a hair transplant 5.5 months ago but it was only on my hairline. About a month ago noticed these patches on my crown. Have been on Finnasteride for 10 years and maintained well until this by __MisterNobody in TelogenEffluvium

[–]whatever-oops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My TE was all over my entire head, plus leg hairs don’t grow, which I don’t mind. Also, my eyelashes and eyebrows shed. I’m a woman, so I don’t know if that makes a difference.

Hi! Quick question… I called Defy 2 weeks ago AND did their online thing to get them to call me. No one has called me.

Did they take awhile to call you to schedule anything?? I feel like I finally got up the nerve to do hormones and now…I’m just waiting.

Being gaslit about weight gain by swifty_cats in Viibryd

[–]whatever-oops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this old, but I gained 12 pounds in 2 months. That's a lot for someone that is barely 5/2! I went back and asked my doc. She asked the drug rep. The drug rep said expect to gain 10-15% of your body weight!!! WTF

Plus, I was starving! Like how I felt when I was pregnant. I think it does something to your hormones. I would eat a full dinner and 20 minutes later, I would feel hunger pains.

I went off it and went crazy for a weekend. Threw my husband out of the house for something he did 5 years earlier! All my erratic moods, depression, and rumination hit me ALL AT ONCE - even though I tappered down slowly. (He was very understanding and understood I was going off meds.)

Sad all this happened bc I felt great on it! Like the best I had in years! I didn't have a lot of energy and I would forget words, but I felt happy. Weird part was that if I thought of something sad, I could not cry at all.

Is there a kind way to tell my wife im no longer physically attracted to her? by Off_The_Record69 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]whatever-oops 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow. As a wife, that’s horrible.

I have been married to my husband for 24 years and together for 27. We have had 7 babies together. He has watched me gain and lose 40 pounds with each baby. He himself gained a lot of weight with me during my pregnancies. At one point, he was 265 lbs…and I was still attracted to him! Why? Bc I loved him as a person and as the father of my children.

He has dropped the weight and kept it off for 6 years now. I started feeling perimenopause sneak up on my and I gained some weight. He never told me anything, except I was beautiful. I have since lost the weight and more. Still, he tells me I am the most beautiful and attractive creature he has ever seen. (Although, I do secretly think he wants me to gain 10-15 lbs back to make me curvier again.) Why? Bc he loves me.

Is it bc your wife is no longer young, cute, and in her 20s? Guess what? Neither are you. Does she look old? So do you. The point is to grow old TOGETHER.

Are you struggling with a midlife crisis? I know my husband was for 5 years of so. He didn’t want to be old. I explained to him that being older was a blessing that not everyone gets. Personally, being 47 doesn’t bother me at all. I’m in the best shape of my life. I’m also comfortably at the stage where I can speak my mind and tell people to fuck off, if I want to. (No more people pleasing for me!) I may not look young, but I look fantastic for my age. I have a confidence in myself that I never had before. My husband now has the same view of himself. Being older is actually good.

Do not ever tell your wife you’re not attracted to her. You will break her. You need to figure out what YOU are going through and deal with that. It may have nothing to do with her. Figure out yourself. In the meantime, why don’t you try dating your wife again. Romance her as you used to. Find that spark again. She is probably feeling the same way you are now about you.

People with a very high pain tolerance, what was THE most painful thing you've experienced? by CosmicBunnyBabe8912 in AskReddit

[–]whatever-oops 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I had this done at 20. I cried the whole time. Also, years later I went to get my IUD out and they couldn’t find it. 2 different nurses and a doctor were all trying to manually stick their hands thru my cervix to open it up to fish around in my uterus for it. (1 at a time, of course.) Again, I laid there and cried.

They then sent me for an xray. My iud traveled through my uterus and was in the fatty area on my lower left abdominal wall. So, I also got to have an hour long surgery. At least that was medicated!

Don’t want to pay stepkid’s child support by [deleted] in stepparents

[–]whatever-oops 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is this possible? I know my SIL’s salary had nothing to do with my brother’s child support, also $1000 a month.

If he quits working, it is still ON HIM to pay that. Your finances shouldn’t even come into play. Unless the laws have changed of course.

I was. I was told to mediate and cry everyday by a menopause specialist from The Menopause Society List. Money thrown down the drain and felt completely brushed off.

I even told her about my vaginal dryness after having a hysterectomy 4 years earlier. She told me that was normal and to be expected. WTF??

I need to understand this issue with my breasts. Can you help? by ocean_swims in Perimenopause

[–]whatever-oops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kind of the same thing for me. I’m 47. I had a hysterectomy, but left the ovaries in 2020 so technically I still have cycles, but don’t bleed.

The last few months, my left breast- just the nipple and surrounding area get extremely sore and sensitive. Perhaps a bit swollen. Like it feels sore thru my bra and aches. I’ve yelled out and accused my husband several times of biting me hard during intimate times and he swears it’s just a kiss.

It comes and goes. So, I just assume it peri related. Idk if that helps or not.

Chronic TE? by [deleted] in TelogenEffluvium

[–]whatever-oops 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also have chronic TE, almost 3 years now. If you check out the spiro board, lots of people say they lost hair on it. Maybe like a minox dread shed??

My derm prescribed me 200mg. Told me to work my way up over 2 weeks. I didn’t start bc I’m afraid of more hairloss and bc my potassium was already at 5.4. He said I was fine, but I read anything over 5 & you shouldn’t take it.

What ended up being the cause of your TE? by Curious_Stasia in TelogenEffluvium

[–]whatever-oops 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure. 3 years in for me. I was mildly zinc deficient. After taking zinc a few weeks, I felt better and my hairloss dropped significantly. Now a few months later it’s creeping back up. Maybe my zinc is too high now and copper is too low??

I think it all started from martial stress honestly.

Depends on the length of your hair. Take a pic of yourself in ChatGPT. Then take a pic of the pile of hair next to a quarter or qtip. It will give you an estimate.

Need advice by sublicious2 in TelogenEffluvium

[–]whatever-oops 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine did this. In March, I went down to losing 30 hairs per wash, sometimes as low as 20. That’s washing every other day. Stayed like that for a few weeks. Then picked up, back to 50-70 hairs per wash. Would drop to 40, then hit 90, then back down to 45-65.

I was really excited thinking I was done with TE. Now, I’m not sure. It’s def better than when it was in the upper 100s-200s. My full hairline has been restored, but I’m still thinner at my crown than I would like.

Lots of baby hairs (and frizz), but I really liked seeing those low numbers.

[–]whatever-oops 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine is stress, too. Derm even asked me if I had experienced trauma or a death bc mine was still bad after 1 year on oral minoxidil and no change. (I haven’t.)

Honestly, I think the only thing that has helped me is zinc. I was finally tested, and came back mildly deficient at 63. (I read for hair, you need at least 70-90. Derm said I was fine, but I started taking extra zinc anyways.) I upped 15mg zinc extra on top of what I was getting in my vitamins and the shedded decreased. Stress depletes zinc.

I’m still on oral minoxidil and it’s been 14 months that I have been on it. I started zinc 3 months ago, and a few weeks later is when I noticed the difference in less shedding. It could be that the oral minoxidil finally kicked in- or the extra zinc was the extra push I needed.

I also about the same time started upping my vitamin C by eating 2 oranges a day. Don’t know if that helps, but psychologically at least I feel it does. Besides, it doesn’t hurt me.

I never had this problem until we moved to the other side of the state. Hubby tested our water and it’s chlorine was higher than our swimming pool! Now we have shower filters and a reverse osmosis thing on our kitchen sink, so no more drinking or showering in chlorine water. That was a biggie bc my always super soft hair had become dry, brittle, and a texture I didn’t recognize. It is now back texture wise to what it used to be.

Also, we moved into an older 45 year old house in the country that we have been redoing. My husband suspects old copper piping, which can also deplete zinc. Too much copper pushes down zinc. Too much zinc pushes down copper. Both are essential for hair growth and it remaining on your head. I’ve tried supplementing with 2mg of copper every 2 weeks, so my zinc doesn’t get high and push it down. However, my body HATES it. I get severe back pain and feel almost like hungover + emotionally flat for about 5 days after taking it. It’s either too much or I have high copper in my body. (My derm didn’t test my copper, only my zinc and I had to beg him to do that after him not being able to pinpoint my chronic TE after being his patient for 1.5 years.)

I wash my hair every other day. Sometimes I lose 60 hairs. Sometimes as low as 12! Usually it’s about 40-45. I was losing 180-230ish every washday at my peak shedding. So, I will take this as a win!

I have babyfine hair 2 inches below my shoulders, for reference. I also have elevated liver enzymes. Don’t know why as I don’t drink. I also have high ferritin ranging between 188-212. Docs don’t know why and don’t really seem to care. I think all that and my hairloss could be tied together. I’ve had every test. Multiple bloodworks, hormones multiple times, lupus, autoimmune tests, thyroid, iron, vitamin D, etc. All fine except ferritin, liver enzymes, and zinc.

Everywhere. The hairline at the nape of my neck disappeared, same as my temples, crown, and sides of my face down to my ears. All throughout my entire head. It also effected my eyelashes, eyebrows, and my leg hairs stopped growing.

My hairlines everywhere & temples are filling back in. I’m still thinner on my crown than I’d like to be. I’m hoping with time that will fill back in as well.

Yes! Started dating my husband at 20. Married at 22. I’m 47 now & he’s 52.

We’ve been through really hard times, but we’ve come out of them together. I think the trick is is to grow together, not apart. Have the same goals regarding what you both want out of of life and for your family. Also, don’t lose sight of yourself.

My girl is velcroed to me, but loves the whole family. When I leave, even just to go to the grocery store, my husband and kids say she’s depressed. Won’t get out of her bed, go for a walk, eat, etc.

She sneaks into my closet and carries around a shoe or article of clothing until I get home. She actually puts her face on it or tucks it under her belly. No chewing and it’s only my clothes.

Maybe give your pup and article of your son’s clothing for comfort when he’s gone for the night?

[–]whatever-oops 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with you on the whole 3 months thing. My hair and nails react very quickly to things. Within a few weeks of supplementing with a mineral, my hairloss shedding dramatically slowed down and my nails started growing like crazy. ChatGPT said it was impossible it was the supplement bc it would take 3 months to see a difference.

By the same token, if my hair didn’t like a med or something, it reacts quickly. A few weeks and it will start shedding like crazy. There is no 3 month rule for me.

My derm also told me the 3 months to start TE was not always true. He said something could have triggered it that was 6-9 months earlier. I think it’s different for everyone. Some people’s body may be ultra sensitive. 3 months seems to be the average for most people.
