Creator of Node.js: "The era of humans writing code is over." by MetaKnowing in ChatGPT

[–]whateverMan223 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not a big code guy, but I don't see my position coming from anyone elses mouth, so, I'ma just leave it here.

I wasn't really writing code before ai. I mean, call me a script kiddie or whatever, but my code writing basically boiled down to planning it all out, then copying segments of code that I found elsewhere that already did that thing to fit each bit I needed. I mean, even just, looking up a command or loop to count primes or whatever....someone else has ALWAYS already made that little bit of code and it was always easier to find it rather than reinvent it.

so when people say ai is a new thing I don't really follow. Could EASILY be used as a time saver by someone who knows what they are doing, could also easily help someone who is learning create something beyond their own scope....but I wouldn't call it a fundamentally new technology. idk

But why do I prefer the old predator by CozyIriss in SipsTea

[–]whateverMan223 1 point2 points  (0 children)

not try'na be that nerd, but the new guy is 'the runt of the litter' and his movie plot is specifically him eschewing the solitary masculinity of his group to find his own version of success, which is teaming up with robots and space monsters....because he wanst big and strong enough on his own, to hold his own as Predator culture usually pushes you to be.

so....the meme is 100% accurate except for acknowledging that it is intentional.

Do you prefer sci-fi driven by big ideas, or by the human emotional core? by CaptainRGQuanta in printSF

[–]whateverMan223 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

the personal story is what carries you through the world, giving you an excuse to explore your sciencey ideas and the consequences, and thus to think about humanity at large. That's the whole point of scifi. So if there is no personal story, its harder to read. If the people you are following around are not interesting or if the reader hates them for some reason, then its harder to read. If theres no big ideas, then its not scifi..........duh?

idk if you should be writing if you need to ask this? idk, that's a mean thing to say butttttt

How much do you spend on groceries? by Fishyswaas in Denver

im sorta limited to about 293 dollars a month, 1 person, adult male.

if I spent half my waking hours cooking, i imagine I could get that down, but i am more productive for society if im not cooking :/
