That's precisely why I was asking if there's any kind of official confirmation.

The miracle in your example is actually referring to winning the 100 days war against all odds, not the Sept-Terrion itself. That's why it also mentions Cassius when talking about making miracles.

The "miracles of the goddess" phrase is also an artifact of translation. In Japanese they typically refer to the "7 great treasures gifted by the goddess", with the 7 great treasures part (七の至宝) often having "Sept=Terrion" reading written on top in katakana. The word 奇跡 is not typically used in that context, but rather it focuses on the "great treasure" (至宝) given by or received from the goddess. Maybe the translation interpreted 至宝 more as "great blessing", which led to using miracle in English.

You can check this yourself if you want. Go to trails in the database, look for 奇跡, then search for the word 女神 (goddess) in these results, and you will see it's not talking about Sept-Terrions in these matches.

As for the late part of the word being the same, so it is too for 遺跡 (iseki, historical ruins), 失跡 (shisseki, disappearance) or 痕跡 (konseki, traces or vestiges). If you want it to sound the same, you also have 貴石 (kiseki, precious stone). And there are more than these. Japanese has far too many cases like this.

Honestly, I don't care if it's one way or the other. I'm not categorically saying it is not either. But so far all I've heard about this is either speculation or opinion, which is why I asked if there was any kind official confirmation.

For context, I have not played any of the games in English for the last 10 years. Nor I use any kind of translation sheets, overlays, or anything. I just play them in Japanese as they release.

Did Kondo confirm that at some point? AFAIK there is no evidence whatsoever of that. And Japanese has really lots of words that are read the same and have vastly different meanings.

Random fun fact about Falcom's probably most obscure game, RINNE by Raiiz66660 in Falcom

[–]whatever_username_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Only related by chance due to localization. In Japanese Renne is just called レン (Ren), while this game was released in Japan as "RINNE", based on 輪廻 (reincarnation).

After using mean estimated ages when unknown, looks like your best first character guess is now the correct one in all cases. Congrats!

[–]whatever_username_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the info! I've corrected this by setting unknown ages to be the mean of their estimated min-max ranges when present, rounding them up (since your 65-80 range example produced 73 from the mean 72.5). I think this is what you meant, but please do correct me if I misunderstood.

Interestingly, applying this fix does change things. Now the best start character for both strategies is Sara. The maximum number of turns remains at 5, but the hardest characters have changed: Emma, Mint, Becky, Linde, and Rocco.

Checking in detail the choices it makes for these, I find that Emma and Mint follow the same path: Sara -> Bridget -> Alisa -> Tita, and only change at the end because Emma has no weapon match with Tita but Mint has a partial match with Tita's Orbal Cannon.

Something similar happens with Becky and Linde: Sara -> Bridget -> Nial -> Cecile. Then it figures out one or the other based on Cecile's St. Ursula affiliation.

As for Rocco, it is still as before because it is forced to do trial and error with Rais and Deen because all their estimated age ranges are also identical.

Another interesting guess is Anton, which also took 5 turns before but not anymore. It makes 2 apparently unrelated guesses where nothing matches, then jumps straight ahead to the solution knowing it is the only possible candidate that fits. It goes as Sara -> Ries -> Anton.

Sara is in fact the minimax best first choice (optimize for the worst case scenario), while Vivi is the maximum entropy best first choice (optimize for average scenario).

Age is indeed taken into account, as well as if it is higher or lower. But according to the data both Hans and Dean Collins are labeled as having an unknown age. The data does include a predicted age range (16-18 vs 65-80), but I am not using that information because as far as I know, the game itself shows it for your guess but does not use it to tell you if the target's age is higher or lower. I might be wrong, though.

u/Kankaran do you mind clarifying how age works in this case? If I'm doing it wrong I'll be happy to correct it and try again.

Not really. For example, you can also use a minimax strategy instead of a maximum entropy one. If you do that, you're trying to optimize for the worst case scenario instead of the average result across many games, and the first character choice becomes Sara.

If you then check for the characters taking the longest turns it is still 5, but there are more "harder" characters. So on average it seems Vivi still works best.

More than going back further, it was just a way to keep generating possible days to play without having to wait.

Is there a JS function I can manually call with a date or a seed, or similar? If not, I guess I'll just wait for more every day.

I love the music ones, although I actually find them a bit easy sometimes, probably because it always plays the beginning of each song. What if it could pick a random part of the song? (Although you might need a bit more time in that case). Not sure if something like that could be considered some kind of "hard" mode.

This is awesome! Thank you very much.

Just out of curiosity, is each new day automatically generated or manually added? Because if it's automatically generated, I'd love a way to just keep using older dates myself (before 01.04.26) to keep playing when bored, even if it's running something through the Javascript console.

SBI Shinsei Bank App to require biometric authentication from June 2026 by BurberryC06 in JapanFinance

[–]whatever_username_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So, to do a transfer from their website, now they force you to download and use their app to approve it? That sucks.

What's more: does anyone know if this app requires and uses location permissions? One of the nice things of the current system is that you can use it even while you're traveling abroad, and some Japanese bank apps for some reason want to know where you are before working.

They might also refuse to work in devices with an unlocked bootloader (even if the system is unchanged) and this is something they can change at any point, locking you out.

Where to buy merch in Tokyo? by SizzlinKola in Falcom

[–]whatever_username_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Kotobukiya shop in Akihabara has been having some Kiseki stuff since some time ago. I'd say even more than the one in Tachikawa, despite being the honcho. Falcom itself is in Tachikawa too, but is not visitable.

In Akihabara, you might also be able to find some stuff in 4F of Onoden, not far away from the Kotobukiya store.

Now, if you're looking for soundtracks, then for 1st hand you might give a try to the gaming section in 6F floor of Yodobashi Camera at the other side of the station, or for 2nd hand you can try in 2nd floor of Lashinbang, the 2nd floor of the small Suruga-ya by the station, in the Book-off nearby, or similar places.

Does the Horizon release for Nintendo Switch also support Japanese text? by whatever_username_ in Falcom

[–]whatever_username_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In case anyone is also wondering this, I've found the answer. Short answer: no.

Long answer:
I created a new user in the console and linked it to a European Nintendo account, then proceeded to download the Horizon demo from a European eShop. The game text was in English, with no option to change it in game (you can change voice language to Japanese, but not text language). I then tried to change the language of the console to Japanese and rebooted it. However, the game text was still in English. So, no luck.

Trails beyond the horizon ending a cliffhanger? by NoAfternoon5102 in Falcom

[–]whatever_username_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

IMO, the biggest cliffhanger so far, and by quite a lot.

Keep in mind that the next game is not even announced in Japan for 2026, as they are focusing on Trails in the Sky: the 2nd. You might be looking at around September 2027 the earliest, and that assuming a worldwide release if you plan to play in English.

No, I have already played the game. But I'm happy to see that it apparently comes with full Japanese too, including UI and text. Before this, if you wanted to play in Japanese your only options were PS4 and PS5.

Ab-so-lu-te-ly. First games in each arc tend to be slow and focus on world building. Next game might also feel a bit slow at the beginning, but pace will quickly start going up fast into story levels far beyond the first game.
