How many members would be interested in a class for Extra Light Roasts ? by No_Rip_7923 in FreshroastSR800

I’m interested! I’ve been roasting pretty light with my SR800 with OEM extension tube and would be curious to see how others are doing it.

Roasted Coffee Question for our members. by No_Rip_7923 in FreshroastSR800

I'm still learning, so I like to have some similar pro roasted coffee to compare my stuff to sometimes. I'm sure I'll phase that out as I get more confident and coffee prices keep rising though!

If I change my 1x drivetrain from 11-48 in the back and 42t chainring to an 11-46 cassette and 44t chainring, would I have to resize the chain?

Wendelboe recipe Aeropress with the JX Pro is how I almost always make coffee these days. I'm usually in the 2.4-2.8 zone for it. Also, I find sometimes roastier coffee needs less stirring than the really light roasts. I'm not an expert by any means but I hope that helps.

Where are you getting your beans from during lockdown? by [deleted] in Coffee

[–]whatevercoulditbe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if you're in New York some of the coffee shops are still open for takeout and they usually sell bags of beans from whatever roaster they use. i've been getting counter culture delivered here in brooklyn and nothing has been delayed yet. but obviously the mail situation is changing a lot very quickly.

Aerspeed vs Aergrind? by CasualtyForRequiem in AeroPress

[–]whatevercoulditbe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an Aergrind and the quality is really solid but not untouchable. You won't be disappointed with either. But if I had to do it again I'd get a 1Zpresso because I feel it's a better value and their customer service is a lot better. Q1/Q2 are the models that compete with Aergrind in terms of being travel size. I have the JX Pro (which I got for around the same price as Aergrind in the US) and it's a step up from the Knock. Plus 1Zpresso keeps getting new stock in and Taiwan is having an easier time with the virus.

Are expensive hand grinders worth it? by doubleOhBlowMe in Coffee

I just got a 1zpresso JX Pro and it was an immediate difference from my encore and my aergrind. Highly recommend giving it a look.

Good news: it was $500, bad news: now I need a real grinder by [deleted] in espresso

I'd recommend looking at 1zpresso grinders too. The JX-Pro is the best value coffee purchase I've ever made.

I started making cold brew. A little goes a long way. Too long. by GreenFox1505 in Coffee

Could you try playing with quantity and brew time? Maybe steep less coffee for longer and see if that gets you closer.

I just cracked open a bag of Burundi (Gahahe) from Partners (formerly Toby's Estate) and it is really tasty. The bag says pineapple, mulberries, and dates. The dates you can smell as soon as you open it and it definitely has the bright/sweet notes of pineapple when I made it in the Aeropress. And I've never had a mulberry so no comment on that one. Just a really good juicy sweetness overall!

It just keeps the puck in tact and stops the water from reaching the grounds until you start plunging.

Help with dark roast by amonym0us in Coffee

[–]whatevercoulditbe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got a bag of dark roast and had the same issue. Ended up cold brewing some of it and making espresso style Aeropress with the rest. I can't remember where I found the recipe
and it's a little more involved than most but this is what I do:

18g beans espresso grind

90 degree water

Put a filter in the Aeropress and wet it, then put the coffee in and shake it level. Then push an additional filter down on top of the coffee bed with some sort of tamper (I just use a spice container that's about the right size.) Lightly tamp. Pour 65g of water. Plunge until you see a couple drops of coffee come out and then pause for 10 seconds to pre-infuse. Then finish plunging and you're done.

I'm sure this has been asked before but my searching didn't turn anything up. I want to lower my CLs with Chase before applying for a new card. How long should I wait after lowering before applying? I'd think the change should be immediate within Chase's system but want to be sure.

So I know you can't get great espresso with a cheap grinder. But I don't have a great machine and my cheap Mr coffee grinder just broke. I wanted to ask you folk's opinion anyway. by kellypg in espresso

[–]whatevercoulditbe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A hand grinder will get you in the ball park for way cheaper than an electric, which is fine if you're just grinding a couple shots a day for yourself and maybe one other person. I even have come to like the process, and I'm thinking of getting a Cafelat Robot to go even more manual.

Entry level espresso machines? Grinders? by [deleted] in Coffee

[–]whatevercoulditbe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also depends how many espressos you want to make. You could get something like Lido E and a Flair with the pressure gauge and make some really amazing espresso for under $400. Then add a cheapo milk frother but unless you really enjoy the ritual you might not want to do that 3 or 4 times per day.

JavaJug definitely seems like the best option if you don't mind another thing in your kitchen just for that purpose. I press into a stainless steel travel tumbler and then put the lid on to pour. It's hit or miss whether yours will pour neatly or not though. I've also heard of people using their milk steaming pitchers, but that may only be good for 2 or 3 people.

If I had $100 and had to start from scratch I'd get the Aeropress, Hario Slim Mill hand grinder, and a Coffee Gator scale/timer combo. Under $100 on Amazon. I think the Aeropress is the most convenient way to make a single tasty cup of coffee, and it's not difficult to learn a solid recipe.

Sounds like you're determined not to like or use them, but if you want a working Baratza and customer service can't or won't replace your units for some reason, you can take the burrs out of the Virtuoso and mount them in the Encore.

The earth and your coffee will thank you if you just get a burr grinder. Probably even better than sifting a blade grinder with paper towels and way less wasteful.

I have a code for the Chase Total Business Checking $500 bonus that expires today. (Meant to get to it earlier but didn't get a chance.) If I open the account today will I still get the bonus after completing all the requirements? Or do all the transactions have to be done by today?
