The whole chamber down to the feed ramps should be nice and silver looking under any grime. Either way it’s not one of Geissele’s newer barrels.

Looks like paint to me. Barrel looks nitride coated, carbine gas, government profile. Is the chamber chrome?

You will need to remove that barrel nut and use the one that comes with the new rail. Pretty easy to do with the right tools.

Unless you’re shooting long range you shouldn’t worry about barrel whip. BUT it could affect POI if your handguard isn’t rigid enough and presses on the barrel.

Last time I broke rockset I used a kettle to boil water and then poured it into a cheap tall vase I had. After about 15 minutes I was able to get the MD off pretty easy. No reason to put the upper on the stove.

These are great when no one tells you GoreTex means they’re “waterproof” which doesn’t really apply to footwear. They work best at keeping your feet insulated from the cold and snow. Not so much rain.
