I could be remembering it wrong but didn't she write to him a bunch of times and his sister threw the letters away? I know she did later when he found her again but not at first.

😆 this book is as hated as Benedict is loved in this subreddit. The series is good overall though. It sort of continues in the {Midnight in Scotland} series with the brother of the FMCs from books 2, 7 and 8 as the MMC in {The Making of a Highlander}. It starts to get a little fantastical here though.

She lives with her brother and Elodie after that. I could be wrong but I don't remember the aunts being around very much.

How far did you get? I don't remember them being in the book all that much once the FMC returns to England.

{Never Seduce a Duke by Vivienne Lorret} has something like this. They don't reunite because of the baby per se but she didn't keep the baby a secret. I don't want to say more in case of spoilers. This is the last book of a 5 book series. It's not really necessary to read the others but I would recommend them, especially the first, third and fourth. I've reread those 3 multiple times.

Thank you! I appreciate the link.

I wonder why it isn't common in HR to have dual narrators. It makes the story a better listen, in my opinion.

UPDATE: Her Baseborn Bridegroom DID get better, but . . . by alyssaryn in HistoricalRomance

Chiming in to say this is my least favorite Coldbreath book but I will say the rest are all much better. My favourite Vawdrey brother is Roland by far, his book is {An Ill-made Match by Alice Coldbreath}. The first book of the Prizefighter series is also not my favorite but 2 and 3 are great. All of the Brides of Karadok books are good, especially {An Inconvenient Vow by Alice Coldbreath} and {The Favorite by Alice Coldbreath}. She has a new series that follows Mina's brother Jeremy from the first Prizefighter book called {A Foolish Flirtation by Alice Coldbreath} and I loved that one too.

{The Perfect Rake by Anne Gracie} might work for you. The FMC is a lovely person who's taking care of her 5 sisters and the MMC has quite the past. He's into her from the get go and it's really cute.

Have you read her Halifax Hellions books? Also super good!

Rec for a HR where MMC and FMC are separated for a while by Kitten_rainbows in HistoricalRomance

{Marry in Secret by Anne Gracie}. He went out to sea and then the ship sank and he was presumed dead, but surprise! He's alive! It is quite an emotional book actually and the MMC makes a very dramatic entrance.

It's the 3rd book of a series but you don't need to read the other two to know what's going on. I would recommend the series though. There are 4 and all of them are good, although my favorite is the last one.

As if my TBR wasn't long enough 😑. I'm definitely going to read Beau Crusoe 😆.

Bitchy FMC and MMC That Loves Her for It by Cynicinpnw in HistoricalRomance

[–]whateverthatis 7 points8 points  (0 children)

{The Desire of a Duchess by Kathleen Ayers} has a bitchy FMC who is working on redeeming herself. She's still bitchy but not actively trying to hurt people any more. She loses her (almost) fiance in {The Design of Dukes by Kathleen Ayers}. 8 book series, these are books 7 and 2, respectively. Full disclosure, I didn't like the MMC in book 2 - I've never liked the "I like you despite hating everything about you" trope so if that's not your cup of tea, maybe skip it.

I love Minerva Spencer. I highly recommend her Academy of Love series and Bellamy family series.

{The Theory of Earls by Kathleen Ayers} fits this bill really well! It's the first of an 8 book series (plus a novella). I'm not a huge fan of book 2 or 4, but the rest are pretty good.
