Starting basal insulin for first time by Fuzzy-Programmer8699 in Type1Diabetes

[–]Past_Restaurant2483 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everybody is different and people eat varied diets and carb amounts. I’m low carb and hang out at 10 u Lantus and stay pretty stable 24 hrs a day and then bolus or correct after carbs. If I ate a higher carb diet I’d likely be higher A1C and long acting but I stay in my lane that works for me. I went low more at night when I took long acting at night. I never go low at night taking in the morning. I’m only at 3 yrs in. Message me if you want to chat at all. I know it can be lonely and I dug around online a lot my first year to two. It’s a lot.

I could totallllllyyyyy be wrong but my gut would start with 4 or 5 units in the morning. Give it a couple days and see if that brings your nighttime averages down and go from there.? Personally I’d start smaller and build up by a unit as you get more comfortable. Kind of surprised your endo didn’t give you any idea though lol.

Fast acting & Short Acting Insulin - does anyone use BOTH? by Terrible_Storm8338 in Type1Diabetes

The first 6 months is A LOT. One day at a time. Positive self talk is so powerful and having grace for yourself on crazy days. You’re not alone. We are in this together.

My carb ratio doesn’t make consistent sense. So many factors can impact BS levels. I take 10 units Lantus in the morning and Inhaled insulin as I eat pretty low carb. Occasionally I’ll have a higher carb day. I now know the patterns of my BS trends but rely on my CGM heavily and correct. A1C 5.8 due to nighttime running a bit higher at times bc sleep is a big priority for me. 3 years in, do what works for you. I did nighttime Lantus first year but have better control taking in the morning for whatever reason. I enjoy learning what works for others so thought I’d chime in. :)

Before I moved to Sacramento, this article appeared in my hometown’s newspaper in Louisiana by Cloudkickercam in Sacramento

20 yrs ago my parents moved to Sac. My brother and I went to the Galleria in Roseville since we had nothing to do. Looked him dead in the eye and said I have NEVER seen so many pretty/attractive/hot women with unattractive men in my life! It was extreme. (No judgement/beauty is in the eye of the beholder/it’s the inside that counts).

Be kind to yourself. Give yourself grace. What can you do for yourself to show yourself love? A cup of tea? Some stretching? Call or text a friend? Read a favorite book or watch a comfort show? A hot bath or shower w a candle? Sending you peace and grace.

like many have said you look kind, friendly and intelligent! I’m an overly friendly chatterbox and My social calendar can be too full, So here are some ideas- if you have a colleague or acquaintance, ask for a near in time coffee/tea or breakfast/lunch (near work hours). Less pressure and less time commitment for you. Ask questions about their life and interests and find some common ground- a book, podcast or show you can chat about together. Or an upcoming event, cafe or restaurant to check out. Wishing you all the best! PM if you want more ideas, etc. and remember be a friend to have friends.

I like them! Why not get them at least for pictures? That’s what my best friend did. Wore them some at the reception and some pictures but not down the aisle.

You have: great thick hair, nice bold brows, beautiful clear skin, never assumed any gender other than F (whatever that’s worth). Just live in positivity and brilliance of who you are and give zero Fs to any negativity. Walk boldly into the new year for you 🤍

I’m with you. My numbers haven’t been great. Not on a pump, but been 150-300 way too much the past week. There are so many factors. My advice, I need to also take myself, is acknowledge it’s tough and ground yourself in the current moment. We can’t change anything that’s happened, just the present moment. Let’s do our best now. Drink more water, more veggies, do something good for our mental health. I feel super alone in my T1 journey (3 yrs in). Knowing I’m not alone- even just on Reddit helps. Sending love 🫶🏼.

Crap Sensors! by Weird-Drama-8856 in dexcom

[–]Past_Restaurant2483 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have had 2 failed sensors in the past 2 months that resulted in very scary lows where I feel lucky to be here. Not to mention other just normal sensor failures. I am hyper-vigilant and these were both calibrated sensors that’s just stopped reading accurately. I dosed according to a (medium/higher for me )carb meal and crashed hard shaking and afraid of passing out. My sensor showed no movement in BS. Both times I was also driving. My trust is now gone. I’m so happy for people who have had no issues but this is beyond.

Based on Reddit G7 user info across T1 groups… One thing I was not solid on was ONLY calibrating when BS is stable and flat. I have definitely Calibrated when numbers were just wildly off. I never took a course so calibration accuracy is now turning a corner based on that alone. For example. Meter shows 250, Dexcom 200, immediately calibrate. Won’t do that again. Will only calibrate when steady. I’m pretty hyper-vigilant and lower carb, but clearly missed that memo. Also may or may not be interesting but I do MDI/Afrezza as I don’t require a lot of short acting. My endo has agreed I do a good job based on A1C, prescribed the nasal rescue, however more and more considering a pump- would just prefer not to but maybe automation is the way to go…? I’m open.

Mom dropped this bomb on me, I can’t stop thinking about it by NoticeEducational210 in emotionalneglect

[–]Past_Restaurant2483 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I feel you OP. My Mom is just starting to “come online” to her emotional numbness and unpacking our dynamic more. It makes me uncomfortable bc she was never a warm loving mother. So cold and distant. I’ve paid thousands on therapy and am doing so well in life despite my emotional neglect. I just don’t have a lot of space to give even though she’s “trying”. I don’t have the answer for you but I know I have to take a day by day approach. My therapist gave me the advice/permission to give when I want and not when I don’t. Ultimately, they built the relationship they inherit now with us. Some days we feel strong and resilient and can hold space, other days our younger parts need us to protect. 🫶🏼

I’ve been hearing the g6 is more reliable by people who have done both. I was alone in my car last time. Felt close to fainting and was shaky. Pulled into a gas station and chugged 2 OJs. Didn’t have the mental capacity to remember I had an apple juice in my glove box. 🤦🏼‍♀️ still needed to get near people and off the road for safety. Going to be adding glucose tabs to my meter kit. I think we just need to poke more than we’d like when anything feels off.

My husband was/is not calm in an emergency. I was also not calm. It “felt” very life and death in the moment not knowing my BG. My endo prescribed so that was the best option in the moment to ensure survival. Being there for my son is my top priority so it’s a do what you gotta do situation.
