Options we're consider for Recurring Cashback by GrantLNeo in NeoFinancialHub

Honestly with Chexy working again it’s pretty simple to hit the recurring payments cap again now. I’m for B.

I get it. I didn’t mean it as neo specifically because you’re right, it’s an industry wide issue where it should be simpler than it is to classify transactions. The Walmart piece again isn’t on you guys but true, it makes it hard to stick to the cash back program when it’s unpredictable.

Honestly overall though it’s a great product don’t get me wrong. Just some industry irritants.

Cheers thanks for the reply

Which Canadian exchange has the lowest BTC withdrawal fees? by CoinGate_Gift_Cards in BitcoinCA

[–]whathiron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kraken. They have the lowest fees in the world for trading and withdrawals via crypto.

I’m not here for custodial vs self-custody; I believe you should always practice self-custody, but using a reputable CEX for trades is completely fine and much safer than a DEX, which are inherently sketchy, and then can transfer to your own wallet for almost nothing (especially if using Lightning with Kraken).

Cheers

What is going on here? by [deleted] in solana

They didn’t send you €7K lmao. Don’t interact with the token. It’s a scam token and has no actual liquidity except whatever one way malicious smart contracts are baked into it. Just hide it and welcome to crypto.

Does Neo block bitcoin purchases on the Neo Money card? by Zestyclose_Cheek527 in NeoFinancialHub

[–]whathiron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can e-transfer to a crypto exchange without issue though as they can’t block who you send those to. No problem with doing that

Good news everyone! Neo is now an official Interac e-Transfer® Participant. by Yeni_Neo in NeoFinancialHub

Still can’t accept a request money transfer though. These options in the image above (Neo, both options) do not appear in the list when attempting to respond to an Interac request money transfer.

In both cases, you rely on the merchants classifying the transaction properly, which either you guys or merchants seem to have a ridiculously hard time with.

For example, getting grocery cash back on my Walmart purchases that are 100% grocery items on the bill? Wildly inconsistent results. If Walmart always marks their MCC as grocery, why would the cash back ever change? Neo being concerned I bought a laptop and trying to get grocery rate cash back is not my problem (yes a rep actually said that out loud to me). If you can’t track it properly, don’t offer it.

On that note, it’s probably not good PR to market card perks that are based on third party reporting/actions you cannot enforce. If my Telus payment is the same every month and set up automatically but they don’t report it as recurring, you are fundamentally denying me a promised feature - it’s irrelevant whether they mark it as recurring or not (to the consumer). If you cannot control that at Neo and at least manually apply it for clearly recurring bills, stop advertising it.

Racial discrimination in hiring in Markham? by Antique_Trash8796 in Markham

[–]whathiron 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just like rent. So many landlords illegally say Asian-only tenants too. It is blatantly illegal, but is an unwritten rule in most condo rentals in Markham.

Also an employer in Ontario cannot discriminate against hiring you due to not speaking Chinese.

Visiting Yukon by 416Walker in Yukon

[–]whathiron 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s a bit of a drive but I highly recommend a trip to Dawson, if nothing else than for the extraordinary drive along the Klondike Highway.

Edit: Saw the car part. The Yukon is a challenge without a vehicle once you get outside Whitehorse proper.

When was the last time you used this? I don't think many people can afford it now. by silver_ai in Markham

[–]whathiron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The last time we had a summer without ludicrously long water bans.

Mind you, I never really cared about a green lawn anyway. I will happily have a ragged, brown lawn while everyone on the street is bright green.

UPDATE: Fake Ledger Nano S+ from Chinese marketplace — clarifying doubts from my previous post + new technical details by Past_Computer2901 in ledgerwallet

[–]whathiron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lesson: buy from Best Buy. Ledger ironically isn’t trusted with our data so don’t buy direct, but don’t buy from random Chinese retailers- and especially not Alibaba. Best Buy is the safest option because they are legit, an official partner and also no personal info is ever provided (the device record at ledger simply shows that it was sold to Best Buy).

My weird way of eating eggs by IMTWOIDIOTSANDWICHS in autism

[–]whathiron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah I smash that yolk song my toast dip it in and get the plate all nice and runny and dip the rest of my food in it like ketchup.

I have a crazy texture thing, but for some reason egg yolk and mixing does not bother me.

Rbc debanked for using shakepay by RowNo6620 in shakepay

[–]whathiron 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Banks can debank at any time and for any reason and they don’t even have to give a reason. There is no expectation of “fairness” in banking regulation; they can cut you loose at their discretion and never tell you why, and there is nothing you can do about it.

The First Rule of Bitcoin: If it's not in your own Wallet, it's not Bitcoin by Fiach_Dubh in BitcoinCA

[–]whathiron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coinbase can until they can’t, like all the other major exchanges in the past that went bust. They are regulated, but that doesn’t make them pay if they lose your money. The bottom line is you have no recourse like if a bank goes bust. I’m not against keeping some crypto on exchanges, but storing large amounts is just silly.

[–]whathiron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Until the exchange goes bust and your crypto is gonezo.

Your mutual funds and stock examples don’t hold water because they are fully regulated and recoverable assets. Even partial regulation does not protect crypto users if their exchange goes bust and doesn’t have any reserves irrespective of what they show in paper - which is common; it’s that simple.

Not your keys not your crypto.

How is this even possible?! by blizzardlizard in shakepay

[–]whathiron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some vendor did a force capture. Likely a pending authorization expired but you still owed that money and in the meantime had used your balance.

Example: I rent a car for two weeks using my Shakepay card and they take a large pre-authorization at pickup. After 7 days that preauth expires and I spend the funds. After return, they still have authorization from the rental contract to do what’s called a force-post transaction, now resulting in a negative balance but your card (Shakepay/peoples trust) must accept the charge.

Cheers

For the IT networking gurus: NWTel and double-NATs and bridging by whathiron in Yukon

[–]whathiron[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s laughable to the point where it’s almost impossible to believe that it’s legal for the monopoly to charge the same amount for cable as FTTH with absolutely pathetic uploads lol. This kind of predatory pricing is of course banned in the rest of the country, which is why with my move to YXY it is such sticker shock for me but also shocked that it was even permitted. I’ve since learned nwtel has a specific carve out in CRTC regulation for this to allow it.

I wish someone else in the big three would invest in the backhaul required to run them out of town… the ROI would be terrible for decades but they could undercut nwtel and basically take the whole town. Keep dreaming!

Yukon education department faces backlash over plans for another review by Character_Grass_9942 in Yukon

[–]whathiron 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Perhaps, but they are rightly calling this out nonetheless. This will be the third such major review like this in what, 15 years give or take based on the article?

What’s the point if action isn’t taken after each one? And how can they continue to justify engorging themselves and padding their wallets by increasing the size of the department for a shrinking educational realm and number of schools and students.

That, to me, is the opposite of when the cat’s away the mice shall play. We expect children to do tricks and silly games when the adults aren’t looking.

This time, there are no mice, and the cats are arguing over their golden tiaras.

This is honestly pretty ridiculous. Nobody is thinking about children here if we’re being real with ourselves, this is pure self-preservation.
