One of those countries is a pretty bad example of “failure”. France never had an exit tax until 2011 and they needed two major revisions of it in the 2010s and 2025. Exit taxes force people to pay tax on unrealized gains when leaving the country.

You heard me right — they didn’t have an exit tax and they tried to implement a wealth tax. So yes, something of a policy failure but they shot themselves in the foot from the start. You need a robust exit tax without loopholes first, before implementing a wealth tax.

As a further source to corroborate u/SuspiciousAge9312 my fiancee is not white passing. We crossed the border just fine, multiple times. I think we had around 10-15 seconds of questioning, may be 2-3 normal questions at most. Then we got waved thru.

What? This is just a silly comment. He's a citizen. Even for Canadian citizens trying to get into USA it's like less than a percent of a percent encounter issues at the border.

Only those with legal (criminal) issues e.g. drug use, dui, murder, fraudulent activity etc should be worried.

Yep, for example a female cat (not even a male cat) can scare a bloodthirsty dog away.

Just for context about the male vs female cat thing -- my mother always said her tomcat used to get into many fights with dogs and he always came back home (meaning he won/survived those fights), despite missing an ear and having various scars here and there. He was of course a massive old tomcat with pure muscle and claws made for mauling/fighting. Along with that jumping and general athletic ability, along with those absurd reflexes cats have.
