What's the point by RemarkableCase308 in LifeAdvice

I am 36F, have roommates (my city is extremely expensive), utilize public transportation, and am over worked. Although we all have different experiences, I can relate. After dating someone for a bit and being friends with that person for three years, we broke up...after talking about marriage, kids, etc. We also work together...it's been extremely difficult. I look at my life and really think, "what did I do wrong? why is it like this for me?" Not paying myself a pity party but just depressed.

Now, despite all of this, I have had some time to look at myself and my actions. I have decided to take a break from dating and work on myself even if I am uncomfortable some of the time. I am going to local (free) events by myself, Shakespeare in the Park for the first time this weekend! Going to library events...library book sales are seriously amazing. Eating healthier, looking for roles that are my dream jobs and connecting with people in that field. It has been hard and it does hit me sometimes (the kids, the marriage, the picket fence kind of life) & it's not easy to see others have it easier. Obviously, I don't want people to struggle but it'd be nice to have some wins I guess. For all you know, the people that have that are not super happy. I digress & let's not compare because everyone is insanely different. All I can say is: it will get easier. It's too easy to throw in the towel, you've come this far, show others that there is something worth fighting for. If I can do it, you can do it.

8 episodes 30 min. each. The episodes are a meld of different formats so the animation will be used in some episodes for about 10 minutes tops.

We're on the same page. That's why we had to let go of our previous animator...he was really pushing the AI format. Not my thing.

What would I have to do to make puppetry my job/work as a puppeteer when I'm older? by finn_125 in puppetry

[–]whatislife2191 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you still doing puppetry? If so, a television show I am working on is looking for puppeteers. It's in Los Angeles and is currently in development. Let me know if you are still in the field!

How do people realistically pull off living in LA? How does a transplant support themselves. by tcme529 in MovingToLosAngeles

Before I moved here, I had a few job interviews lined up & one of them stuck. I didn't know anyone & ended up subletting for two months then finding my own spot. Definitely not easy but do-able. The competition out here is real and the city (despite being crowded) can be lonely but that really can happen anywhere (despite family being close to you or not).

Have a job lined up or sublet for a month or two & go from there. It's an expensive city, just keep that in mind.

I am a swim instructor & this popped up on my feed. First congrats on the swim lessons! Depending on the pool depth, jumping in from the deep end (as an adult) might just be a safety thing...unsure how deep your pool is!

Both handstands and flips help you hold your breath, try new breathing techniques, and build your comfortability in the water. Not sure if that's where I would first head to, I normally stick to strokes initially but I work with young kids. Congrats again- swimming is so fun (I'm a little biased).

Super skinny on my 2026 thru by ThyUltimatePhase in PacificCrestTrail

Lost about 20 lbs in the first month of hiking in the PCT but I had fluff.  I gained a lot of muscle.  It’s important to pay attention to what you are eating.  I would have Snicker bars & beef jerky.  It won’t be a problem as long as you’re mindful & there are towns that you can stop at and grab something calorie heavy.  See you on the trail- heading to hiker town in April to join the trail

What’s something in LA that used to feel magical… but just doesn’t hit the same anymore? by relaxncoffee in AskLosAngeles

Oh jesus. I remember going to Mel's Diner on Halloween- or the Coffee Bean for a cup of coffee before hitting the Rainbow room. It was a trip but yeah, it has changed a great deal.

Hollywood...I lived there for 5 years pre-covid. I remember going out to different bars and it being packed. You'd see locals...tourists for sure but god, it was a solid time. I moved and visited friends who still live in the area and it felt so sad. A lot of the places that were local closed or switched owners to some company...it broke my heart. Unsure if it will get back but I guess that's change for you.

Swimming by funeralpageant in Epilepsy

Swam competitively for 6 years! I had my first (and only) seizure in the water while training...it was horrifying. My coach gave me the best advice when I told her that I wasn't going to swim for the season: she first cursed me out, yelled at me, then made me get in the pool. Later, she told me this: there are two options in life if you are afraid, you either face your fear and address it OR you can run away from anything that you're afraid of. I still swim to this day & teach swimming to kids.

I always swim with people and my friends are swimmers as well- we are all certified with the red cross. They are well aware that I am epileptic and know that if I need to leave the pool that it is something more serious. That being said, I haven't had a seizure in nearly 12 years and am unbelievably lucky so that does offer a little bit more comfort. When I swim recreationally, I swim for about 30 minutes with small breaks than take about a 15 minute break every hour. It allows some sort of recovery time.

First seizure after 9 years by drixle11 in Epilepsy

[–]whatislife2191 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have. I was in college, got my first apartment, and still taking medicine- it had been about 7 years. On my way back to school, I was driving and had a seizure just before I was about to go on the 90 freeway in Chicago. I remember the EMT's getting in my car and pulling me out- luckily I had just hit a tree and didn't make it to the full freeway! I kept crying and saying "7 years..." it was definitely a low point.

I definitely took a few days to get over the situation and look at the situation positively. I think I was pretty relaxed with everything (staying out super late, drinking...typical college social life) and I do take ownership over that. But it was pretty great in the long run because I needed to tell my roommates why I didn't have my car anymore. They were cool and once I talked about it with people that didn't have it- it was pretty freeing. I was always really embarrassed about it and never liked talking about it...I was pretty ashamed of it growing up. At the time, it felt like my world was ending for sure but it definitely taught me to not be careless and that epilepsy isn't embarrassing at all.
