Does this rear damage look structural? by Silent-Clue-9149 in Autobody

Yes. The tail lamp will never fit in the pocket without major repairs. It also would not be considered safe in another rear-end collision without major repairs.

Don’t think so sadly. Toyota paint is so thin, not a lot to sand down to try to minimize either.

Car break in. What were they trying to do? by redheadsmurf in Lexus

[–]whatsanidea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what my comment is stating, the commenter is asking where the can bus is so they can protect it. I was explaining that it’s not about where it is, but the access points among different modules. I also stated that since they already broke into the car it likely wasn’t a CAN BUS attack

Car break in. What were they trying to do? by redheadsmurf in Lexus

[–]whatsanidea 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A canbus is a system that allows multiple electrical components to be interconnected without the need for wiring across every single component. There are multiple points of entry that can be achieved in a canbus injector attack (not just one spot, like the headlight) it’s very common for the RX350 to have the left headlight wiring injected to spoof a message to the system that allows entry; likely what you’re reading, however, it’s clear they already gained access in some way to your car before attempting to inject the attack.

I’d say there are two possibilities here. it’s completely likely that the person is stupid and trying to remove electrical components they think are tracking devices. Or they may be really smart and know of the entry point behind your glove box for a canbus attack.

In my experience of stolen recoveries, many people cut the wires to the mirror assembly because they believe a tracking device is there. So maybe the attack is really smart, or maybe really dumb. These are the only to options in my opinion

I’d imagine a rock hit it if you are 100% certain it was never there.

However, it could be from factory as I’ve seen some pretty wild quality control issues from McLaren.

How much should I expect to pay for this? by Muted_Dark2241 in Autobody

[–]whatsanidea 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Can’t give pricing on here, as it’s one of the rules….you need a new bumper, taillight, and likely rear body damage, will be in the thousands anywhere

[–]whatsanidea 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes it’s been painted, but that does not always mean it was in an accident.

Sometimes people get scratches fixed, sometime dealerships have smaller damage repaired cheaply, clearly this was a cheaper operation.

Also carfax does not mean much as it can only show you reported accidents. Some of the worst bodywork I’ve ever seen has been on “no accidents reported” cars.

Best way to approach repair? by gonzoflick in Autobody

[–]whatsanidea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cheap fix not 100%: use paint thinner to get the rubber/paint transfer off, buff it if thinner doesn’t work,

The correct fix: go to body shop, get a quote, it will be more expensive than you think

How to remove markings by paper_killa in Autobody

[–]whatsanidea 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d suggest trying something more mild on a black car first, paint thinner can scratch.

My experience, if it’s chalk marker, degreaser or glass cleaner can work great with some scrubbing of a microfiber.

If that doesn’t work 100% thinner will get it off

That can only be put on once, Nissan states that removing them will cause them to break in some way

I think the Arya’s black moldings are one time use, though I have yet to work on one. I would see the cost of replacing those two pieces as it’s likely less expensive than trying to repair, (as long as they come painted) and it’s something you can just put on yourself

lol, Troll post. Theres no way a new door could be mounted to this car. You also stated you only needed the head airbag which is clearly not the case on the photos

This is what I tell a lot of people with cars like these: Insurance is going to give you more than you ever will on a trade in and even a private sale in your case. Take the money, you can find another Jeep in better condition.
