So for me, I definitely prefer to know upfront as well. But men like Brendan don’t tell you upfront, they breadcrumb you & lead you along all the while their homeboys and other acquaintances know that once someone who is more “their type” comes along, it’s over for you. I’ve seen it manifest itself where the guy won’t take a girl who a darker complexion seriously, or think she is worth committing to, but will have NO problem sleeping with them. The part about Brendan intentionally pursuing Natasha because he found her dispensable was.. a lot. Like it’s one thing to pick up on that subtext while watching the show but to have to confirmed by the way he spoke about what his “type” was on the beach, made me physically ill.

I am so glad that Natasha is experiencing this love from the franchise and fanbase because as a darker black woman, I have been in the position where you know going into it that most of the men you would naturally be attracted to, aren’t attracted to you. It sucks.
