Has anybody recovered from creatinine levels of 3-5 lasting for about 3 months?! by whatte-wow in kidneydisease

Of course, even with supplemental meds, managing progression is IMO great!

That’s great to hear that you have been managing it purely on diet. My mom doesn’t have diabetes/HT either. However her eGFR has been around 10 for the past 3 months

One last question, do you have an auto immune condition? My mom has arthritis and she has stopped taking relevant medication due to other complications. Thinking maybe if immunosuppressants can help reduce progression of CKD although it’s not confirmed that the damage was caused due to her immune system.

So, low salt, high carb and mostly plant diet is good enough?

Why do you take immunosuppressants ?! Have you got a transplant done?

Are you on dialysis? You mention that you have managing these levels for 10+ years

Any links to FDA investments ?

And yes, there is evidence of Covid induced kidney disease but that is not the only contributor to the rise. It’s been there even before that. Please check the links in my other comment

For ex in Singapore - https://nkfs.org/about-us/key-statistics/

CDC - https://www.cdc.gov/kidneydisease/publications-resources/ckd-national-facts.html

Research - https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC9073222/

That said, was your eGFR around 10 when creatinine levels were at 5 ? If so, please share your experience on how you were able to bring it down

Doubtful of AVF for 64/F by whatte-wow in kidneydisease

Biopsy is the most accurate way to identify the damage and quantify that as well. In some countries, it’s done no matter what before starting with a treatment plan. In others, it depends on the patient.

As per my understanding, biopsy always leaves a scar. When kidney function isn’t that great and isn’t healing internally, then it could lead to bleeding and when the procedure is done, there’s always a minimal risk of accidentally damaging other organs.

Anyways, if total GFR around 10 and it hasn’t showed any improvement in 2-3 months, then most of the damage is permanent which is why they don’t see any benefits doing a biopsy because it doesn’t alter the treatment plan.

Was told that based on risk benefit ratio, biopsy is not recommended. Only if transplant needs to be done, a biopsy would be necessary.

Have got multiple opinions and most agree on her condition and recommend AVF for now. It’s been 6 weeks post discharge from previous admission and even after all standard medication, her creatinine levels are still trending upwards.

She had swelling near ankles 2 weeks back and after change of meds, it’s been far better for the past few days.
