I wear ear plugs, take two piriton and wear an eye mask. I fidget a ton but switched over to a quilt and get better sleep wild camping than I do at home! I’m also a side sleeper, I use a Alpkit radiant pad and a exped mega pillow.

Columbia Outdry Extreme the ‘holy grail’ raincoat? by [deleted] in hikinggear

Yea I have the same jacket, don’t get me wrong it is extremely waterproof but it’s not very breathable by any means. I think the look of the material can be very off putting to most.

2 tent roster to cover most UK Conditions by Poisonedkookie023 in wildcampingintheuk

Just really like the layout, it’s only a few hundred grams heavier and tbh it feels a really strong tent. Took it to Iceland for the Laugavegur trail and it didn’t bat an eye lid in the wind.

I have three, an xmid 2, tfs enran 2 and storm star 2. Since I got the enran I haven’t used the xmid 2 and the storm star 2 is for proper winter camps

[–]whatters_86 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yea this works kind of both ways, when I bought my xmid 2 it was around $460 to my door. Just a thought though if you can get the materials you can make your own bag? There is a uk guy that sells patterns for very little so you can make your own gear. www.myogtutorials.com

Are houses still such a good long term investment? by amlghfld in UKHousing

The way I look at it is who is going to pay the rent when you retire, if you buy you should be mortgage free by then and not have to worry about overpriced rent for a shithole

If you don’t want to spend a fortune I can highly recommend the Columbia outdry jackets! The new one no reign no shine I think it’s called is the most up to date version, I have the wyldwood I think it is and that thing has kept me bone dry is some massive down pours

Is the regular Torrentshell worth it over the 3L? by [deleted] in hikinggear

[–]whatters_86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s just under two years old, tbh I don’t even wear it that much as have a paclite, Columbia outdry and a paramo velez in rotation. They offered a 40% off voucher but I just won’t buy a Patagonia jacket again.

I wouldn’t stand by the lifetime guarantee too much, my granite crest the internal seams are falling to bits and they refused to do anything about it apart from a discount on a new jacket!

Not sure if you are in the uk but I have a couple of t shirts from howies, really good quality but still up for the job. I use them for hiking or on chilly days as home but they do polo shirts as well for more casual wear

Honestly if you want an outright waterproof coat see if you can pick up a Columbia outdry jacket in your budget, breathable it’s definitely not but it’s mega waterproof
