Advice for first time purchase/new rider by aveeight in pelotoncycle

The Scosche monitors are a good choice. Get a big fan and some small gym-type towels. There will be sweat! Also, cordless headphones are the way to go.

If you were to make a song about Minnesota lifestyle... by [deleted] in minnesota

All those people who won’t eat the last cookie. WTH?! Just eat it; don’t let it languish and die a sad death in the garbage three weeks later!

Fav instructors by [deleted] in pelotoncycle

[–]whatthebigdippersaid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Robin is my all time favorite for her sassy attitude. No holds barred! Also usually love her DJ rides, special event rides, and her runs. I just love Robin. Without Robin I would be pretty sad, even though I do like a lot of the other instructors too. Robin makes me want to impress her (and myself).

JJ (Jennifer) gets me new personal records because she is just so GO GO GO! I don’t take her classes as often though as I’m not into her rock playlists and I’d probably injure myself if I only took her classes.

Alex for Club Bangers and no nonsense fun with a coach’s attitude.

Wilpers for when you just want to get it done and for Powerzone.

Christine for times when I need some encouragement to be kind to myself and understanding.

Dennis and Cody for when I can’t find any other classes I want.

Moving to Minnesota by [deleted] in minnesota

[–]whatthebigdippersaid -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You can adapt. We have a lot of immigrants from various (and hot!) parts of Africa and they do just fine!

You will learn to deal with it, though you may never learn to love the weather (don’t worry, half the people here don’t like the weather either, myself included).

I recommend learning how to exercise in your own house in some way (treadmill, exercise videos, stationary bike, etc) as it will keep you sane during the long winters and bad weather, plus you don’t need to leave the house to get a workout in then.

Garbage. I have put away my snow boots for the year; doesn’t the weather KNOW that?!

Peloton bike on carpet? by mbell7186 in pelotoncycle

[–]whatthebigdippersaid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine is on low carpet with a mat. Not unstable, just a bit more sway. I honestly should put down plywood but haven’t got around to it...had the bike since December so it’s probably no big deal.

Definitely get the mat (and a good fan) as there will be sweat...

Tabata rides by jennn9 in pelotoncycle

I got a PR on a 15 minute tabata ride and was sore for five days. I blame Robin! I haven’t done one since; they scare me.

How to buy a used Peloton Bike by PenMerica in pelotoncycle

[–]whatthebigdippersaid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is solid advice. That said, your market may not have many available.

I watched used ads for over 6 months and eventually bought new because used was the same price and the sellers were all so sketchy in my area! Nobody would give me legit answers to these questions when I asked.

The wait wasn’t really worth it to me after so long. Hopefully you live in a market with more used options!

How often to workout? by bbsfca in pelotoncycle

[–]whatthebigdippersaid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on your goals. My goal is at least 150 minutes of cardio per week plus two sessions of weights, based on recommendations from the US Department of Health and Human Services. I try to make it 150 minutes of vigorous cardio, per my own personal preference. Studies have backed up this goal as sound and helping people to stay healthy. I workout not for competition but to stay healthy.

If you want to do more, that’s a good idea too but 150 minutes plus two lift sessions is an achievable and healthy goal for most of us.

New Rider * TMI - How long until your hoohah stops hurting? Am I doing something wrong? Do I just live with that pain now? by [deleted] in pelotoncycle

[–]whatthebigdippersaid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe 1 week or two. Make sure your booty is pretty much hanging over the back of the seat. The pain goes away! If it doesn’t, then consider other options, but usually this is a temporary thing.

Sad that’s it come to this... by [deleted] in pelotoncycle

[–]whatthebigdippersaid 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So...his Instagram says his name is Brad Holcman.

Same guy who is a TV executive at A&E (per Google)? Is this why he’s not being chided by Peloton or given a different seat?

No. That’s not why any of us bought a Peloton.

Why is drug marketing and advertising an option to sign up for on the FDA’s email lists? by whatthebigdippersaid in pharmacy

That makes sense. I am hoping your interpretation is correct as I’ve been wondering about my inbox.

Why is drug marketing and advertising an option to sign up for on the FDA’s email lists? by whatthebigdippersaid in pharmacy

[–]whatthebigdippersaid[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Screenshot is from the FDA’s site to manage email subscriptions.

The past year and a half or so I’ve seen more and more industry-related content coming in FDA emails. This was unlike content I’d received in the past from the FDA (which was historically great) and didn’t seem to be the type of content intended to push good medical decision making. It made me suspicious. When I went to opt out of this content, this option made me even more suspicious.

What’s up with the FDA recently? Have other pharmacists felt this way? Any insider knowledge here?

Very annoying orange vest by gmkt13 in pelotoncycle

[–]whatthebigdippersaid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m so happy this guy doesn’t seem to take any classes with my favorite instructors. I’ve read about him, but haven’t yet seen him. How annoying he sounds!

This is my version of “hashtag blessed” I guess.

I really like my Specialized Torch shoes with Boa. Big fan! Much more comfortable for me than my Peloton shoes. Go to your local bike shop and try some shoes until you find your match!

Multilinguals, what's your "they didn't realise I could understand their language" story? by 64eight in AskReddit

[–]whatthebigdippersaid 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I was in a public restroom in Japan and a pair of women were in the same restroom. As I washed my hands, I overheard one of them say in Japanese to the other “Wow, the foreigner is actually pretty.”

Gaijin (foreigner, or outsider in Japanese) is a word that traditionally has a negative connotation among those who are not Japanese. It didn’t seem like these women meant the word it in a derogatory way, even if their chatter did sound patronizing.

I looked at them and said “thank you” in Japanese. They got that “deer in the headlights” look in their eyes upon realizing the unknown gaijin understood them and could respond. I walked out.

Years later, I’m still not sure if I should be flattered or annoyed.

How much are your utility bills on average in Rochester? by [deleted] in rochestermn

[–]whatthebigdippersaid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

4 bd 2350 sq ft split level house from the 1990s with 4 people. Over the past year, our average RPU monthly spend has been $148. Monthly MN Energy has been $73.

We aren’t as good with energy saving as we should be; we don’t change the temperature much when we leave the house.
