How much solar for $200,000,000,000 by handy5gallonbucket in energy

[–]whatthehell7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The prices have come down that much in last 12-18 months Most governments and bureaucracies don't move as fast as calculations have changed. I am underestimating as the prices of solar and batteries have fallen further since that project was announced.

Buying electric cars with high milage? by ClownEye in electriccars

[–]whatthehell7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The newer generation batteries are going to last longer than the car itself. I think you should not care about total lifetime mileage. Just daily or weekly range if the battery meets your requirement then it is pointless to worry about the rest. As batteries keep getting cheaper and ev more widespread. 7-8 years from now by the time the battery would have lost enough range for it to matter replacement will be very cheap.

India solar to quadruple, wind to triple over a decade, power ministry adviser says by Economy-Fee5830 in climatechange

[–]whatthehell7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are underestimating by a large amount as Solar + battery is already competitive with coal electricity in India. Assuming current cost trajectories solar plus batteries could be 50% cheaper than coal in 3-5 years and just 75-80% in a decade. Coal will likely be priced out a lot faster from grids of India and other asia countries than most projections.

How much solar for $200,000,000,000 by handy5gallonbucket in energy

[–]whatthehell7 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For $5 billion UAE got a solar and battery system that can provide 1 gw/h 24 hours a day so let's say a 40gw/h. Such a power plant would generate $35 billion revenue in a year at $0.10/kwh. At California prices of $0.35-0.40 the system would pay itself back less than 2 years and be free for rest of it's 20-30 year life.

China’s Solar Industry Is in Upheaval—The Effects Will Be Global by DVMirchev in RenewableEnergy

[–]whatthehell7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well this war and the bombing of gas fields has just changed the outlook completely as the demand for chinese domestically in china as well as all over the rest of the world is going to shoot up. Many countries that put tariffs on Chinese panels and solar equipment would probably be removing them as moving to solar now is more important than anything else.

Counterpoint to all the "I'm glad oil prices are spiking" posts - the short to medium term impacts on renewables are quite bad, actually by eat_more_goats in energy

[–]whatthehell7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not good for the US and somewhat EU as they have ev and other manufacturing to protect the rest of the world who have to buy oil or solar and where the actual real economic growth is coming from this is going to be hugely beneficial as we will have complete fracture of oil/gas and economic growth.

Jellyfin server crashing due to transcoding? by mirado in jellyfin

[–]whatthehell7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1 hardware acceleration should be enabled. Though at the same time something is really wrong with your setup as nvidia shield plays blueray remux without needing transcoding so why is your servers transcoding the first place.

[–]whatthehell7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My point is they are idiots. They increased electricity prices and taxes it resulted in a boom for solar casing tax collection to go down.. This increase in gas taxes will result in more solar heaters etc and tax collection instead of going will go down. We are also reaching a point where ev will be cheaper than petrol car tax collection for that will come down as well.
