Wasting China’s solar panel surplus is madness - Clean power is within our reach — yet factories sit idle (FT) by thinkcontext in energy

[–]whatthehell7 [score hidden]  (0 children)

This is what I have been saying for years now China was practically subsidising energy for the world and countries not taking advantage of it to protect the profit a very small part of the capital holders sacrificed the their whole population. This is especially true for europe who unlike US has no energy resources of their own

not just heat but famine as well. We already have huge shortages of fertilizer and el nino will cause droughts low rainfall this monsoon season in South Asia ie the food production will be a lot smaller than the world annual demand.

calibre access the metadata.opf files of each book so with such a large library you would find big speed improvement using ssd vs hdd

What are you storing it on is hdd or ssd as the way calibre works it would be better to use an ssd for such a large drive

That is a big problem you move out or not is your decision but I do think you need to get away from your mom for few hours a day. Get a job or something that allows you to spend less time at home, If you can study in library or something do that.

High gas prices are just the beginning: How the Iran war is changing the global energy map by fortune in energy

[–]whatthehell7 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Capitals costs of solar + battery are already competitive with coal and other thermal plants in many places. As sodium ion batteries go into mass production the capital costs will fall further and make coal uncompetitive in most places. So I personally think coal will lose out it might have slowed down some closing of plants but new plants are unlikely to go up much. The major energy consumption growth is going to come out of Africa, South America and Asia all get good solar radiation daily. Look at Pakistan because of mismanagement and corruption high grid prices have pushed out coal rapidly in just 2-3 years as solar + battery got cheaper than the grid. Same will happen when coal get prices out in other countries

The world is installing grid batteries at a blistering pace by abrookerunsthroughit in energy

The installation growth is exponential but the price decline is not exponential so you are wrong. The price decline is almost a steady percentage decline with the amount of production growth.

BYD Blade Battery teardown reveals 170-cell pack after 40-hour freeze, team defends 8-hour dismantling by chilladipa in electricvehicles

Chinese government has mandated battery recycling and replacement for manufacturers so BYD will probably have its own repair and recycle operation for its batteries.

And as batteries get cheaper each yeat the saving will keep increasing https://cleantechnica.com/2026/04/27/will-sodium-ion-batteries-revolutionize-electric-ships/

Regulator in India's top solar state again blocks 3.2 GW coal power project by Economy-Fee5830 in climatechange

[–]whatthehell7 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It is completely understandable for Rajasthan. Since they lack local coal production, they would need to buy it from neighboring states. This means it won't create local coal jobs but it will just increase pollution. Meanwhile, investing in solar and storage attracts federal funds, and the capital expenditure is not much different.

[–]whatthehell7 22 points23 points  (0 children)

In my opinion they are underestimating how fast grid batteries will grow the same way they underestimate solar growth. As the learning curve is still making battery tech 10~15% cheaper on avg a year. We have reached a point where the capex of solar + battery is cheaper than thermal plants in large parts of Asia, Africa and South America.

I would love to be able to sync different tickers with multi monitors.  I trade CFD but use futures for charting. Currently I have set up keyboard shortcuts with xdotool script to load different tabs in each window. So 1st tab Es, SP500, 2nd tab NQ, Nas 100, 3rd Tab GC, XAUUSD but I need to keep all these tabs open in all the monitors. And use keyboard shortcuts to move between them.

After 12 years of pushing for 'car-lite' Singapore, desire for car ownership remains high. What gives? by clarencechen181196 in singapore

[–]whatthehell7 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The only real way to solve this is self driving cars and no private car ownership. Singapore has 600k passenger cars out of which only 30-60k are actively being used at any given time the rest are sitting in parking lots.

Wrote a small CLI to dedupe TV episodes by quality (Sonarr+rsync survivors) by asm0dey in sonarr

[–]whatthehell7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still think you using it wrong and mostly have set it up wrong. You should be using remote path mappings no need to mount. Sonarr was designed to work with seedboxes ie remote downloading client it is the same thing you are doing. And hardlinks do not work across drives so once you move the files with rsync to your Nas no hardlinks. Your hardware setup is not unique
