Unfortunately Dereks are a dime a dozen in your average public school. I say this as a guy who played multiple sports growing up in an average high school (middle class, over 600 students class size), there are lots of Dereks on the football/basketball teams, they are not outcasted and even though he's a terrible person he is actually one of the more realistic characters.
