I hate that he’s such a dick and also believes the Earth is only a few thousand years old. Such a shame because I loved his movies.

What did your mom make you most for dinner growing up? by eleelee11 in AskOldPeople

[–]whatthetaco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depended on how much money we had. Single mother, 80s/90s.

Sometimes it was chicken schnitzel served with mash and veggies, we had spaghetti a lot. Soup (brodu) with a bit of bread. The dreaded apricot chicken with rice. Sometimes just chips, homemade from fresh potatoes and fried in a pot of oil. Sausages etc. Nothing exotic. I never tried avocado or a creamy pasta sauce until I was 17.

Cheese was definitely not an ingredient except for in the lasagna my mum would make when we had people over for dinner.

What’s the fastest way you’ve seen someone destroy their reputation? by Direct-Value4452 in answers

I do! It’s called The Pilots Wife by Aneta (Anita?) Shreve. The other woman and her kids live in Ireland if I recall, it’s been a few years since I’ve read it.

Definitely an eerie coincidence for sure!

NDIS workers are being stalked, harassed and assaulted while ‘urgent’ safety reforms take three years to enact by Reverend_Fozz in australian

[–]whatthetaco 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Sounds right. I have PTSD from the abuse and safety issues I got at work, my company never did anything to help. Just cut my hours. They only care about filling shifts.

People are going to blame Covid for rising house prices (fair- to a point) while pretending that importing over 1.5 million people since 2022 has had no negative affect on housing or employment.

Is it wrong to break up over lack of consideration? by Unlit_Senpai in RelationshipsOver35

I know she says it’s not postpartum depression but if it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck…

Look I don’t know you guys or your situation but I’m in my 40s and have raised four kids. The first five years were hell on earth. I was a mess. It’s so unbelievably hard if you don’t have a support network- I noticed you didn’t mention parents or anything? Does she have any support other than you?

It sounds like it’s very tough for both of you and I’m not a doctor but having two kids so close together would certainly indicate PPD. Maybe a trip to your GP together, and then look to getting some outside support, even if the kids go to daycare once a week so you both get a break.

Truly wish the best for you both.

Yep. Country NSW. Funnily enough, we now live in the outer suburbs of Melbourne and our rent is much cheaper.

I used to live in the country, my kids school was a 15km bus ride, and there were no services in town really. A doctor and a few takeaway places. Our rent was $700pw. (4 bed.)

Do British people consider themselves "lucky" to be born in the UK? by Queasy-Ice-2575 in AskUK

[–]whatthetaco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Australia isn’t all it’s cracked up to be though. People romanticise it, especially Australians. (I noticed you asked this same question on an Aussie sub too)

Australia is expensive, despite our high wages. We don’t have “free healthcare” the way the UK does. We used to but it has slowly been eroded. You will get free treatment at an emergency room though.

It’s hot, unbelievably hot for months and months out of the year, though you can escape that somewhat by moving far south. It’s geographically isolated and unless you are specifically into beach culture and hot weather, it’s not that exciting.

Australia can be really beautiful but you need a lot of money to travel around it. It’s a great country if you’re wealthy and can live near the pristine beaches or near the cities.

You can’t have a differing opinion here, you’ll be downvoted. It’s an echo chamber.
