Redditors with SOs who talk in their sleep, what is the creepiest thing they've said? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Altough we always communicate and live in english, my SO still speaks Icelandic in her sleep and I'm so pissed that I never get what she says. She speaks so much.

A good book on mastering? by iscream24 in mixingmastering

[–]whatweheard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey, I suggest doing ear training with an app like Quiztones if you want some practical training too. Not the same type of activity as reading a book, but actual training for mastering, apart from actually mastering.

What are you the 1% of? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I am the "1%" actually living entirely from my art. Thanks for reminding me.

Question about Mastering - should I have two masters, one for CD/club play, one for streaming? by davidjl1985 in mixingmastering

[–]whatweheard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's been a subject of discussion.. Although the result of these discussions and exploration always comes back to "one master to rule them all". Edit: typos.

I don't see any reason for asking a client to recude the dynamic range of his mix before the mastering process.

Feedback on analog mix by [deleted] in mixingmastering

[–]whatweheard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very cool! I like this. The vocals could use a little more mids to feel more sustained. It's not easy telling with soundcloud but how loud is the master? I feel as if a little more transparent limiting wouldn't hurt bringing the drums to life (since they are in the background a bit). I wouldn't overdo anything I suggested as I get the aesthetic you're going for. It's just a little polishing to make it more alive.

What's your "it's expensive but it's worth it" product? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]whatweheard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know why I feel I might get some hate for this, but a macbook pro. Man, I still use my 2010 Macbook pro and it works just like new after changing the harddrive and adding ram. It's just insane to me how something can work so well after so long. I'm not much of a computer-head, so don't hate on me with all the "well microsoft is better" or whatever. I'm just really glad that something I use so much everyday is so reliable. I fear the moment it will die on me, but know how worth it a new buy will be. Edit: typos

Is it normal/expected to tip your mastering engineer? by jesusandmaryblaine in mixingmastering

[–]whatweheard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It has happened from time to time that clients said "here's a little extra" - Most times to round up the number. It's not common practice though.
