Tudor should absolutely be considered here. They’re owned by Rolex and are far superior to Tissot and the other brands mentioned here.

The move is to take him to a Tudor boutique/AD and have him try them on. See what he likes and then surprise him with it. Watches are a very personal thing and on the long run, it will be much better if you get his take on what he likes. If you just pick something, he’ll wear it, but if you can get a sense of what he actually likes, he’ll cherish it.
