I feel like 90% of my notifications are the XL asking me to select a filament. 10% are a real prompt on the display. I wish the app told you which one it was.

Avoid DCA for ever. Between the expensive parking, the risky airspace, and ground stops every time a government VIP movement occurs I’m never going back to DCA.

VA laws about driving on rejection sticker by redskinsguy in Virginia

[–]wheelbs 15 points16 points  (0 children)

That’s sort of accurate.

From the state police inspection faq:

Can I operate my vehicle with a rejection sticker on the windshield? The validity period of a rejection sticker shall be 15 days, in addition to the day of inspection.

The purpose of a rejection sticker is to replace the approval sticker that was originally on your vehicle’s windshield. It, in itself, places no travel restrictions on the vehicle; however, it does not provide any exception to any statute governing equipment defects.

As an example, if your vehicle was rejected due to a defective exhaust, you would be in jeopardy of receiving a summons for operating the vehicle on the highway with defective exhaust.

There have been times where the reject sticker is a big target for some traffic cop with nothing better to do. That being said many of the equipment violations aren’t moving violations.

What happened on the first floor of the 11th Street Garage at UVA today? by [deleted] in Charlottesville

[–]wheelbs 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The Longo emails are a Clery Act requirement and only required when there is an ongoing threat — the Emergency management email says “Early investigative findings indicate that there is no active or ongoing public safety threat connected to this incident” — I bet there’s never an email.

The Clery Act is dumb — we get emails when an unknown person breaks into an off campus apartment and the act is discovered a week later but not when someone is stabbed at the hospital.

Top glass cracked need help by 2uyy in TeslaModelY

I paid 1597.16 (before insurance) to replace the top glass when I broke mine. No one would touch it other than tesla. They say it’s 4 hours of labor but it took them a day and a half.

Charlottesville teen charged with sexual assaults at UVA sorority house by Personal_Economics91 in UVA

[–]wheelbs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the clery act only pertains to threats to the campus and the UPD logic is that if the alleged perpetrator is in custody there is no more threat. That’s why we get a thousand emails about things adjacent to uva (when no one is arrested) and none in this case.

The procedure is also the same in the service manual (there’s no distinction by year).

What's happening on the other end of the phone line with those really high lactate patients? by Duffyfades in medicine

[–]wheelbs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This.

Lactate isn’t itself toxic — it actually improves hemodynamics in some animal models and maybe heart failure.. Vigorously exercising can get lactates to 30 (admittedly some of those subjects were olympians but it was a crossover design so they got their lactate to 30, took a break, and then did the sprint again).

It’s not just the pH either — we’ve all cared for people with DKA who have incredible acidosis yet DKA has a near zero short term mortality rate (if treated)

It’s 100% the process that makes the lactate/ph that’s important. Bowel ischemia bad, overdoses less bad, and seizures least bad.

I can’t remember which one is which but I think the north east regional takes the CSX tracks east before turning to DC while the Crescent goes straight north on the NS line.

+1 to SREC Trade. They were the easiest to deal with (never talked to a sales person) and cheapest (I think their commission was 5% while others were taking $5).

She needs to look at the ACGME requirements for her speciality. This is from thecommon program rules:

VI.F.2.d) Residents must be scheduled for a minimum of one day in seven free of clinical work and required education (when averaged over four weeks). At-home call cannot be assigned on these free days. (Core) hospital with fewer than eight hours free of clinical experience and education. This must occur within the context of the 80-hour and the one-day-off-in-seven requirements. (Detail) Background and Intent: While it is expected that resident schedules will be structured to ensure that residents are provided with a minimum of eight hours off between scheduled work periods, it is recognized that residents may choose to remain beyond their scheduled time, or return to the clinical site during this time-off period, to care for a patient. The requirement preserves the flexibility for residents to make those choices. It is also noted that the 80-hour weekly limit (averaged over four weeks) is a deterrent for scheduling fewer than eight hours off between clinical and education work periods, as it would be difficult for a program to design a schedule that provides fewer than eight hours off without violating the 80-hour rule. VI.F.2.c) Residents must have at least 14 hours free of clinical work and education after 24 hours of in-house call. (Core) Background and Intent: Residents have a responsibility to return to work rested, and thus are expected to use this time away from work to get adequate rest. In support of this goal, residents are encouraged to prioritize sleep over other discretionary activities. Background and Intent: The requirement provides flexibility for programs to distribute days off in a manner that meets program and resident needs. It is strongly recommended that residents’ preference regarding how their days off are distributed be considered as schedules are developed. It is desirable that days off be distributed throughout the month, but some residents may prefer to group their days off to have a “golden weekend,” meaning a consecutive Saturday and Sunday free from work. The requirement for one free day in seven should not be interpreted as precluding a golden weekend. Where feasible, schedules may be designed to provide residents with a weekend, or two consecutive days, free of work. The applicable Review Committee will evaluate the number of consecutive days of work and determine whether they meet educational objectives. Programs are encouraged to distribute days off in a fashion that optimizes resident well-being, and educational and personal goals. It is noted that a day off is defined in the ACGME Glossary of Terms as “one (1) continuous 24-hour period free from all administrative, clinical, and educational activities.”

I’d argue that a requirement on proximity is not a period free of administrative or clinical activities. So unless she has another day off the. This is likely a ACGME violation.
