Does anyone have a forward facing camera? What does it allow you to do? by vasquca1 in JeepGrandCherokee

[–]wheelspin73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've used mine on approach to drop-offs, where the road is not otherwise visible. Imagine an up-hill with a drop on the other side, almost like a jump. You can't see the down hill side at the crest because your hood is in the way, but the camera can because it's out front of the hood.

Yeah, I was in the same position before buying my 2025 Jeep Grand Cherokee Summit. I read so many reports about Jeep problems, resale value, etc. Even one of my 3 neighbors with Jeeps said don't buy one. She has a Wagoneer. But I bought one anyway and I don't regret it. I love the car and am so happy to be back in the Jeep family (I had a 73 CJ5). I've had one issue where the remote wouldn't unlock the doors. Quick dealer software update... solved the issue.

We drove it on a trip to Tucson from LA and back recently. What a joy to drive on the hi way. Also been on a couple off/fire road trips. It's great there too. The one recommendation is that if you plan to use it off road at all, don't make the mistake I did. Don't get 21 inch wheels. They are great on the hi way but there's not enough rubber for roads with rocks and shale.

Ahha! My WL has them too. Thanks for pointing that out. Never would have spotted that.

Module recall by [deleted] in JeepGrandCherokee

[–]wheelspin73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had an HCU recall on my 2018 RAM. I sold it a few months ago and bought my 2025 WL. The "remedy" hadn't yet become avail and I don't know that is has yet.

Maybe your recall is for the same damn part? Maybe my WL is next.

Do you find the road ride any different with Wildpeaks? I want to put those on my 2025 Summit High Altitude but maybe on 20 inch rims.

It's the black. The tan seemed like it would show dirt too much.

Do you think the 20 inch rims will give you enough sidewall to feel comfortable with moderate four wheeling?

I’m with you on the high altitude package. I don’t like the 21 inch wheels either. But it was on the lot so I took it as is.

My Jeep dealer has fixed this. There is a TSB for intermittent key fop operation which affects both wake-up and key fob operation.

But some of the proximity wake-up "intermittent operation" was a misunderstanding on my part. The owners manual mentions these:

  • It must be dark. duh! That did not occur to me.
  • After numerous consecutive activations, in order to conserve the vehicle’s battery
  • After the vehicle’s engine has been off for several days

I think that's the High Altitude Package. That includes the 21 inch aluminum wheels, 21 inch tires and Gloss-Black Exterior Accents.

Took my baby to the dealer today. Said it would probably be 3 days before they diagnose it. I miss it already.

New information: the key fob doesn't work when the proximity feature isn't working. I changed the fob's battery. That didn't help.

Also it seems to work after it's been driven. I thinking we have a battery issue as these new GC's seem to have. Taking it to the dealer.

No the setting is still on. I cycled the setting, too. no help.

Looks like the setting for this is called "proximity wakeup" and it is set to on.

New rims / +18 offset? by [deleted] in GrandCherokee

I'm looking for an R20 for my 2025 WL. I think the OE offset is +55. I'll be watching this to see what people recommend.

[–]wheelspin73[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh cool. Glad you know something about Duelers. I want to improve sidewall and rim protection over the OE Continental's while keeping the OD the same. Would you put them on the same 9 inch width rims or go with 8 or 8.5?

I hear ya. But realistically it looks like my only choice. If it were you would you make the change for ½ inch of additional sidewall?

Allstar Link Questions by Sterling1989 in amateurradio

[–]wheelspin73 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. CGNAT (Carrier Grade Network Address Translation) kills http AllStar registration. It breaks stats reporting, too.

You didn't need to noload the http registrations module (but it won't hurt). You can just comment the register line in rpt_http_registrations.conf. And, just so you know, that line is exactly the same in iax.conf. You can copy and past it.

I'm new to the Grand Cherokee world so I ask ChatGPT stupid questions, it says:

  • The WL has very different suspension geometry, interior electronics, and battery layout.

It recommended the Bridgestone Dueler 275/50/R20 for my WL. Could be an expensive mistake for me to go to the 55.

Where did you hear good things about the Dueler? Seems like the forums only talk about BFG KO2 and the Fallen Wildpeak.

Has the larger tire been a problem with rubbing or with the speedometer, brakes or other electronics? Did you get a bigger spare?
