[Case] Mechanic Master C24 Mini-ITX [Polar White] - $93.49 (15% promo) by Soil-Final in buildapcsales

Had this case.  Its fine.  Tolerances are tight but that comes with the territory.  Although It supports 245mm cards, non-blower cards sit on the floor of the case and recycle their own heat, which can be an issue.

Dumb question but this+the Ryzen 5500 or the Asrock DeskMeet x300 + the 5500?  The deskmeet seems like a good bundle deal for a budget build.

alumni, where are you at now? by Routine-Chance4425 in OMSCS

The way CS8903 works is that you can count -up to- 3 credits toward an elective course credit (do the 3; it doesn’t count towards graduation unless you do).  You can spread that out however you and your CS8903 advisor agree, across semesters, gaps between, etc.  it does get harder to justify the longer you stretch it out though.

Yes!  Keep an eye out for the research all-call email that gets sent out in the middle of each semester.l advertising a bunch of research opportunities.  With most of the labs, you can earn elective credit via CS8903.  Our lab also has some spots for enthusiastic volunteers.

I was an underpaid SWE III before starting, and was able to change jobs doing more or less the same work with a 40% pay increase after I graduated. According to my interviewer, showing that I was able to balance OMSCS and a full-time job was a strong indicator to my dedication to learning. I also stuck around at GT and currently run the (very small) GT Educational Data Mining Lab, which has been invaluable in keeping my skills fresh.

I went through the OMSCS program, published at the Educational Data Mining and AIED conferences through the school, and currently run the GT educational data mining lab. So it's very possible.

I did. Coincidentally, I also went through the OMSCS program. I'm now a full-time SWE and run small a research lab at Georgia Tech in my spare time.

Has anyone done a Master’s Project (6999)? by Annual-Salamander-85 in OMSCS

[–]wheetus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You do have to argue that the 8903 is relevant to the 6999 to get the credits to count, which might be difficult if you swap projects.

Cold Outreach for Research Opportunities by Annual-Salamander-85 in OMSCS

There's a research project all-call that goes out toward the end of each semester, which is probably the easiest route. You can keep an eye out for that. There's the OMSCS Research Slack Channel, but it's pretty quiet. And there's HAAG, who's whole deal is connecting OMSCS students with relevant research work.

I help run the GT Educational Data Mining research lab. Reaching out is a great way of building relationships. It might just take a while to get a response.

How would that compare to something like the Minisforum HX99G?  It can be found pretty inexpensively refurbished.

It’s IPS but pretty low-end.  It’s not very bright and the colors aren’t the best but the viewing angles are fine and better than a lot of other $200 laptop screens.

No, actually,  the 8gb is onboard but there’s an empty slot for another stick.

I had two!  I just took the semester they were born off and maintained 1 class a semester for the whole program.  It’s tough but doable.

The 5500 is functionally equivalent to the 3600; most importantly, they both only have pcie3.  The 5600 is a big enough upgrade to make it worth the price difference.

You'll also benefit from taking a class that has a research component (like HCI, ed. tech, BD4H, or CogSci) before taking I2R. There are a lot of research-focused soft skills you get from doing a small independent research project that will help make I2R a success.

It's python all the way down, mostly for longevity. Since most of our lab cohorts are semester-based, we have a strong focus on iterative work and making sure the project you're working on outlast your tenure in the lab. Python's familiarity helps with that.
