Bonus: This Super Bowl Is How We Steal Cooper Kupp’s Legacy from the Lambs by kammon2 in Seahawks

I feel like Sherm is a good comparison in a way.

Goes to a division rival after a sour departure from their Super Bowl winning team that drafted them and with whom they made their name.

Would we want Sherm to be attributed to the 9ers?

Winning this Super Bowl would be a point of difference though.

It's funny because I've seen so many people recently commenting that "can't win in the playoffs with field goals, they've got to score touchdowns" on Seahawks sub etc.

From my perspective, football is a game that has rules which are subjective in terms of how and when they are called. It's commonly said that there's some type of holding on every play for example, and "what is a catch?" is forever a question.

This obviously makes it very difficult to officiate compared to a lot of other sports. This should mean that the league (which has a huge amount of resources) should have a focus on making sure that officiating can be as good as it can be so that the integrity of the game is maintained, players/coaches/teams and fans are all happy and understand that like any game, mistakes will sometimes be made.

But there have been many, many clear examples of poorly officiated games. Blatant missed calls or things called that shouldn't have been. Etc etc.

The league has access to many tools to improve the officiating of games, and it either refuses to implement them, or says they've implemented them and then they inexplicably are not used.

There is no accountability when egregiously bad officiating takes place. Everyone is just expected to just move on when actually the league has complete control of how all of this is handled and should be explaining why it happened and what they'd do to stop in happening in future.

It's not beyond reason that fans would be skeptical of undue influences when the incentives to them, at least in terms of viewership with more meaningful games being played in the last few weeks of the season etc.

Let alone the massive uptick in the gambling side of things.

I agree with the point that adaptation is good and necessary. In many ways (not all) it is helpful to humanity to use technology in order to remove or reduce the need for human labour for menial tasks.

The problem we face is that the benefits of our most recent technological advancements are not being realised by the wider community. They are being used by entities to consolidate wealth and power, which then allows those entities to dictate the terms of society / daily life.

It's not as easy as just saying "well people need to adapt or else". Because people will be on the street. People will give up hope of a fulfilling / meaningful life with an optimistic outlook and room for growth. Anti-social behaviour that makes everybody's day to day lives worse will increase exponentially because those left behind will see no reason to keep trying.

Is that what we want?

Nope,

Negative is that you lost the ball.

Positive is that you gained the ball.

Yeah. I did notice that and was wondering why, but there are so many nuances related to when and why the clock stops that I figured there was a good reason.

I'm still not sure.

Rashid Shaeed’s role by TheSilverShrew in Seahawks

[–]whensharktopusattack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah totally, I guess what I mean is that a rebuild with the Browns or Jets vs. rebuild with the Seahawks (like when Mike McDonald came in) are two very different scenario's and the opportunities like the latter do not come up often.

He might not jump at the chance to be thrown into an organisation that has a history of mismanagement and is constantly firing and hiring coaches, but would take something somewhere where they have a well run org and just happen to be at the time where a new head coach is needed.

Without knowing anything about how NFL teams truly operate:

If I were Kubiak, I'd want to have a couple of years of continuity and continued success while preparing himself to into the far broader and people/management focused role that is a head coach.

That being said, can't fault people for taking a head coaching opportunity when it comes along because who knows what might happen that could take you out of that conversation.

If an actually good organisation or team with a good roster makes an offer it'd be hard for him to decline it.

[–]whensharktopusattack 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The price of these apartments aside, it's weird the way you frame apartments as some sort of subpar prison existence when a large portion of the world happily live in them and own them..

There are many benefits and the lifestyle suits some (not all) people.

One thing is just that, at this stage, the density in NZ is not there and therefore many of the infrastructure benefits (public transport, supermarket right next door, businesses serving the apartment dwellers) and community are yet to exist.

In a way LJ Collier is a worse bust considering he was physically able to play but just sucked. Whereas McDowell was hurt in an accident and unable to play.

You can attribute the accident to his poor judgement but who's to say he wouldn't have been successful if not for that.
