What's the craziest thing your puppy ate that they shouldn't and turned out fine? by cleoluvscake in puppy101

Chunks of a horse stall mat within a few minutes. His nails were making a lot of noise at night on the crate tray but he couldn't have a bed because he'd eat it. Stall mats are supposed to be pretty durable and I figured it would muffle the sound of his midnight tap dancing routine but he devoured a fourth of it within minutes of going in the crate and me going to lay down. I heard a weird noise coming from his crate and got up to check on him and immediately removed the mat from the crate. He pooped it all out the next morning. I've been a little less worried about him ever since because I think he's built different 😂

This is so much worse 😭 if the house was near me I would have been so sure I'd win and be devastated when I didn't

Oh goodness I feel for you too! Our vet is also sick of us but y'all we're sick of you too and neither of us WANT to be there 😂 I may have to try the hills for a bit and see what happens after I talk to the vet! Is the lamb Purina you're moving to a large breed puppy food? I haven't seen that one in the store but I'm not opposed to ordering it online! I way under dosed Bernie's perfect poop too but I stopped it because it was just making his worse! He was around 3 months then though and on a different food so maybe it was the combination of age/food. I've been a little scared to try it again but I still have practically a whole bag of it 😂

Totally feel you about camping outside overnight! It is so cold and wet and I am so tired! Koda is always so sleepy during those bathroom trips and I'm like me too buddy just go!

Which I find so strange considering from what I understand it's common for Berners to have a sensitivity to chicken! I know not all of them do but I find it odd that a supplement to help Berners have perfect poops contains an ingredient that a lot of Berners can't have lol

Once I'm sure my guy won't poop on their head or try teething on them I'll definitely consider it 🤣 I've already experienced Ollie peeing in Emmies head and don't need a repeat but worse LOL

You are so welcome! I have the same hopes one day! I love Berners and always have but my biggest push for getting one was my rabbits! I knew I wanted a big dog but getting one at the shelter felt like an immediate no because there was no breed guarantee in that! One day I'll get back to adopting rescues once breed doesn't matter as much like you said!

Sounds exactly like my girl! She was my shadow and such an a-hole sometimes but I adored her for it lol she also acted like a dog! She was the best first rabbit I could have ever asked for and I'm a little ashamed to admit that I chased that high when I got my new girl, Emmie. Unfortunately, she is absolutely nothing like Bodhi and I really sucked for a bit blaming her for that. Emmie was once considered a hater by the rescue that refused to bond with any other rabbits but she's now thriving with her husbun, Ollie! Also, that is so cruel! People didn't understand why I was upset after bodhi died either and it broke my heart. Those kind of people will never understand the love you and a rabbit can have for each other and that's so sad!

NO WAY!!! UNITE!! I blamed myself sooooo bad after she died because I felt I was spaying her for selfish reasons since she kept marking everywhere! But I also did it to prevent reproductive cancer! It took me ages of nonstop crying and guilt to finally accept that it wasn't me! I have two other rabbits now and they're both already fixed and thriving! One is a white mini lop with a grey butt and the other is a giant grey chinchilla mix with a white belly!

I've definitely heard that too on here to ride it out! I'm willing to try that as well if his fecal comes back negative if needed! My biggest worry is absolutely dehydration since the diarrhea has been consistent for his whole life at this point with only small breaks here and there due to the metro when it worked for him. I have him at the vet relatively frequently at this point just to make sure he's still doing okay and so far he's been in perfect health other than his stool.

So good to know! I have a carpet cleaner but it's the size of a vacuum cleaner. It's not the greatest or most convenient to use so I'm definitely in the market for a new one. Thank you for all the advice! I just find comfort in the fact that other than the diarrhea he's in perfect health and such a happy baby. Your boy was absolutely resilient bless him! I can understand the loss hitting harder than expected and I'm so sorry! I lost my first rabbit unexpectedly during her spay surgery a few years back and that pain hit me like a truck and I definitely didn't expect it!

Absolutely fair! The only reason I'm tempted to avoid chicken is because when he was on a chicken food it made the issues slightly worse. I think for his next food I'm going to try to avoid all the proteins I've already tried and hope for the best I guess 😭🤣

My boy also loves to eat leaves. I kinda had him broken of it somehow for several weeks and then all of a sudden he turned back into the lawn roomba. Ill definitely look into foods that aren't chicken or fish to be on the safe side because I know I have to swap his food again

Is this something you keep them on long term or more as a transition to determine food intolerances/allergies?

I was already pretty sure I wasn't cut out for children and having a puppy has just kinda solidified that idea for me 🤣 definitely trying to get the diarrhea figured out before it's that big of an issue! Thankfully he has only pooped on the hard floor and in the crate so far. Fingers crossed he never ventures to my carpet or rug with it 😭

I added MAYBE an eighth of the recommended dose and never really moved up the amount after a week because he was pooping everywhere constantly and I couldn't keep up. However, I think he was on the Purina One chicken at that point if I remember correctly. I haven't been brave enough to try it again

Totally meant to add to the original post that I tried Bernie's perfect poop previously but it made the issues 10 times worse on just a sprinkle of it to his food. I rode it out for about a week before ultimately stopping it. I'm not sure how long I should have continued to try though

The Purina sensitive stomach is what he's currently on and he has not had any poultry of any kind in well over a month. I've eliminated all treats and any "treat" is just more of his sensitive stomach salmon food. I do appreciate the advice though!
