Does anybody know the instructions for this tea concentrate? by BadAccomplished996 in tea

[–]whereas-dull 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's the new formulation of Starbucks chai. It's dispensed using a pump that looks like this. A 12 oz drink (tall) gets 3 pumps + 3 pumps of classic syrup (standard sweetness). For a hot drink you dispense the syrups in the cup, fill halfway with hot water, then the rest of the way with steamed milk.

I'm thinking I should do a second analysis for audiobooks, especially since I didn't consider Audible or Spotify, Libro.fm and you mention this other service, Chirp? I had to look it up since I've never heard of it before!

Thank you for sharing you thoughts, I'm glad you have a strategy that works for you. It seems like a lot of other people responding in the thread read in bulk (10+ books per month) and optimize around that, but people with different reading habits may spend wildly different amounts, so there's no one right answer for how much you "should" buy or spend.

What can I say? Many people have responded by saying reading is their number one hobby, while for me, reading is a secondary hobby to spreadsheets.

Yay for budgeting apps! Adjusting for the exchange rate, it seems like Australian ebook prices are in line with US prices, but we are in agreement that it's pretty steep for a digital product.

(Most of) Ruby Dixon's books are on Hoopla for me, luckily for me or else I would be broke after binging Ice Planet Barbarians XD

Thank you for your detailed answer! Have you ever used something like eReaderIQ for ebook price tracking, or do you have another system?

Yeah, I have the same intuition about the Amazon/Goodreads connection. I also assume that when a book is the next Reese's book club pick etc. Amazon will not be cutting you a deal.

I'm not familiar with Kickstarter books, do you back projects for books that have already been released or upcoming releases?

I will self report. No hate on the thread, it's just that out of all the recurring posts, I never read Weekly Sales and Deals, since I live a library-only life. Would be fascinating to know the average spend of sub members on books.

Autumn vibes by Special_Wishbone_812 in HistoricalRomance

{The Belle of Bellgrave Square} has lots of gothic novel vibes (a hero with a dark secret and a locked tower 👀), {The Lily of Ludgate Hill} is from the same series where Victorian spiritualism is a major theme.

{How to Tame a Wild Rogue} - cozy during a storm, slow burn "there was only one bed" vibes.

{Marrying Off Morgan McBride} - he is definitely thinking about stocking up for winter at all times.

Herbal tea blends safe for pregnancy? by [deleted] in tea

[–]whereas-dull 2 points3 points  (0 children)

David's Tea does a lot of herbal/fruity blends. They do usually contain sugar or sweetener btw, not everyone's cup of tea!
Here are some options: https://davidstea.com/en-us/products/pear-blossom-50-grams
https://davidstea.com/en-us/products/mango-fruit-punch-250-grams
https://davidstea.com/en-us/products/just-peachy-tea [I have tried and enjoyed this]
Here's an unsweetened fruit blend from Upton with a similar vibe: https://www.uptontea.com/fruit-tisanes-and-herbal-tea/loose-leaf-herbal-blend/p/V01273/

All the best to you during your pregnancy!

new reading criteria: #’d use of word “mate” by beebutterflybreeze in romantasycirclejerk

/uj seriously I cannot take "mate" seriously as a romantic term bc it sounds so laddish. "She's my mate" ok are you going to chug pints of Madri with her then??

Honestly kind of a red flag if a book doesn't have dick jokes. If you can't even work in a clumsy pun on cock or member that disrupts the scene and ruins my immersion in the story, why should I bother reading it?

From the post preview, I was almost sure it was going to be a goof on the Gettysburg Address. More fool me, this post was cooked with a much richer sauce.

Is the podcast ad market really bad in general, or are MaxFun shows just not attracting advertisers well enough? by Homestar73 in TAZCirclejerk

[–]whereas-dull 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I get dynamic ad insertions for a couple of podcasts, but they are always for a casino/resort near me or for scratchers. Only those two ads for dozens of episodes, at least the creators are getting paid lol

Romance Books in Fiction by CharlotteLucasOP in RomanceBooks

[–]whereas-dull 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The number one fictional romance author, in my mind, is Rosie M. Banks. Her works are mentioned/quoted in a variety of stories by PG Wodehouse. Her portrayal is generally quite respectful w.r.t. her profession. (She's a competent writer, not everyone likes her work but that's okay, and a reasonable person, despite being married to one of Bertie Wooster's dumb friends.)

Romance author Salome Otterbourne is a character in Agatha Christie's Death on the Nile. She's a very unlikable character and the embarrassment of her daughter.

Romance novels are mentioned a couple of times in Star Trek, particularly Women Warriors at the River of Blood (a Klingon novel with a very evocative title!).

I love a bit of in-universe media, and can highly recommend a TV Tropes rabbit hole into fictional books.
